About Egypt

The Arab Republic of Egypt is a trans continental country linking northeast Africa with the Middle East. The country is however mostly located in Northeast Africa. It is bordered by the Gaza Strip and Israel to the northeast, the Gulf of Aqaba to the east, the Red Sea to the east and south, Sudan to the south and Libya to the west. Egypt is quite a popular country, and with good reason. Ancient Egypt is one of the earliest and greatest civilizations of all time, known to have made giant strides and complex discoveries even in such ancient times. Egyptian monuments and symbols are still matters of great mystery, interest, and relevance today. The country has its capital in Cairo which is the largest city in Africa and the Middle East.

The country's climate varies from extremely hot in the summer to really cold in the winter. The winter (December to March) is cool, windy, and humid with occasional rainfall. Sometimes, it gets so cold that snow may even be sighted. Summer is from June to September when the country is very dry with extremely hot temperatures. The shoulder seasons (April to May, October to November) are the most pleasant months to travel to Egypt. Visitors in Egypt should dress moderately wearing trousers or long skirts, preferably loose fitting because of the heat.

Egyptian culture boasts five millennia of recorded history displaying a stable, yet complex culture that has been known to influence later cultures of Europe. Ethnic Egyptians account for about 91% of the population with the minorities being Turks, Greeks, Abazas, and Bedouin Arab tribes. Egypt is a majorly Islamic nation with only about 10% to 20% of the population being Christian. Egypt's National language is Egyptian Arabic.

Egyptian cuisine heavily features legumes, vegetables, and fruits from the rich Nile Valley and Delta. Egyptians mostly eat rabbit, pigeon, chicken, and duck for meat, frequently grilling lamb and beef. A staple in Egyptian cuisine is Pita bread (Eish baladi). Egyptian cuisine shares lots of similarities with the food of the Eastern Mediterranean region such as shawerma, kebab, rice-stuffed vegetables, etc. Egypt's national drink is tea.

Egypt is rich in tourist locations and sites, being the historical landmark that it is. A few of such locations are:
  • The Pyramids of Giza: These pyramids are probably the most recognizable landmark in the world. They were built as tombs for the great Pharaohs of ancient times. The architectural wonders continue to defy logical explanations of how they were built, adding to the mystery and appeal of the site. The pyramids are the last surviving of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
  • Abu Simbel: The Abu Simbel temple has achieved the feat of being a temple that stands out even in a country bristling with temples. It was Ramses II's great temple and is identified by the colossal statuary standing guard outside it. It is famous for its megalithic proportions and the wall paintings in its interior.
  • The Egyptian Museum: Visiting the Egyptian Museum is the best way to take a trip down the lane of history to relive and discover the charms and splendor of ancient Egypt. It is one of the world's greatest Museums featuring spectacular collections, exhibits, and arts.
  • Hurghada, Red Sea: This is a Red Sea resort town particularly popular amongst diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. It is one of the most famous family vacations spots in Egypt with lots of fun activities to offer such as scuba diving, snorkeling, wind surfing, sailing, horse riding, and fishing. There are lots of hotels and resorts in Hurghada.

There are several interesting facts about Egypt a few of which are that it was one of the first civilizations to invent writing, Egyptians invented the clock, and they invented make up!
There are up to 9,000 hotels in Egypt ranging from budget to luxury presenting visitors in the country with a lot of options.
