Basic Travel Requirements for Rwandans visiting Afghanistan

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Afghan Visa.


  • Your Rwandan passport must have a validity of at least 6 months and one blank space for visa stamp.
  • Duly completed visa application form which has been signed and stamped where necessary.
  • Two recent 2x2 inches passport-size photographs taken on a white background.
  • For minors, their original birth certificates and a letter of consent signed by both parents is required.
  • Valid medical insurance to cover duration of stay.
  • Proof of accommodation for the duration of your stay in Afghanistan. This could be an invitation letter or hotel reservation.
  • The letter of invitation should be accompanied with the valid means of identification of your host.
  • Documentation proving status in Rwanda either as an employee, student or business owner.
  • Round trip tickets and a photocopy of  your detailed travel itinerary for duration of trip.
  • A letter from a doctor in Rwanda affirming good health conditions.
  • A letter from a travel agency confirming purpose of trip might be necessary.
  • You'll be required to submit a personal letter to the Embassy of Afghanistan detailing the trip's purpose, duration and travel dates.
  • This visa is valid for 90 days and is usually processed in 10 working days.
  • The visa costs $160 and allows a maximum stay of 30 days.
  • A visa is not required if you were born in Afghanistan or to Afghanistan parents.

Afghanistan is part of Asia with largest city and Capital being Kabul.  Babur Gardens which is considered ‘the loveliest spot’ in Kabul, Afghanistan is the most popular destination in Afghanistan. The garden is a site for recreation and relaxation. Tourists also troop into the National Museum of Afghanistan and the Kabul Zoo. The zoo has about 280 animals.

Even though Afghanistan has a lot to offer especially to the brave tourists, it's an extremely dangerous country to visit due to it being a war zone. Terrorism is a huge problem with the government forces fighting against Taliban insurgents.

Travel to Kabul is strongly advised against due  to it being a lethal war zone. Despite the turmoil in Afghanistan, the country manages to pull in a reasonable number of tourists annually. On average, about 20,000 tourists visit the country. 

Tourists should avoid trying to preach to or convert Muslims to other faiths, it is highly forbidden and regarded as a crime. Use and possession of narcotics, alcohol and pork products is a violation of the Afghan laws and orders. Homosexuality is also illegal in the country.
