Application requirements
Documents Algerian applicants need to provide.
- Passport which has two blank pages and has a minimum validity of three months before the visa applicant’s planned exit from the country. The passport must have been issued within the last 10 years.
- Previously issued visas and copies of all pages with entry and exit stamps.
- Completed and signed the Schengen visa application form. Everyone traveling to the Netherlands requires a separate visa application irrespective of if they are accompanying a visa applicant.
- One passport-sized photograph showing the full-face of the visa applicant. The passport must be taken with a light background and must bear a clear resemblance to the visa applicant.
- Bank statement from the applicant’s bank in Algeria from the previous three months prior to visa application.
- Valid travel insurance which is valid for the duration of your stay in the Schengen area. The insurance must have at least €30,000of medical costs which include hospital care, emergency treatment, and repatriation.
- Payment of the visa application fees. If you make your application through an external service provider, you pay the costs.
- Hotel reservation for the duration of your stay in the Netherlands.

Visa type details
Tourist visa
- The Tourist Visa is issued to Algerians visiting the Netherlands for the purpose of leisure and tourism.
- For every document you submit at the Embassy or Visa Application Center, you are required to provide the original and a copy.
- All documents are to be presented in or translated to Dutch, English, French or Spanish.
- Minors who will be traveling to the Netherlands alone or with one of their parents are required to present a copy of their unabridged birth certificate.
- An identity document (one for each parent) which has the parents’ signature should be provided. The identity document should be accompanied by a declaration of consent from both parents which confirms the allowance of the minors’ travel.
- Applicants are required to provide evidence of their legal residence in Algeria.
- Non-Algerians are required to provide a copy of their Algerian residence card. The residence card must have a validity of three months after the expiry of the visa that the applicant applied for.
- The Netherland Tourist visa being a Schengen visa, makes the holder of this visa liable to enter other Schengen States having initially been to Netherland.
- If your residence card has expired, you are required to present a letter stating that you have re-applied for a new residence card and it has not been issued.
- Documents proving that the purpose of your visit to the Netherlands is purely for touristic purposes should be provided.
- Travelers are required to provide proof that they will return to their country after the expiry of their visa.
- Fingerprints must be captured at the visa application center. The fingerprint capture has a validity of 5 years.
- Applicants who do not submit all the necessary documents during the visa application process may have their visa application rejected.
Return Visa
- Eligible applicants of this visa type are foreigners with long-term residence permit in the Netherlands who have lost their ID/residence card.
- Those whose ID/residence card have been stolen or expired can also apply for this visa type.
- You have to provide relevant evidence that you fall under this category before this visa will be issued to you.
- In the case where your residence card has been stolen or is lost, you are required to provide a police report with details of the incident.
- If your residence card has expired, the original copy of the residence card and a photocopy should be provided. Proof of the date of departure from the Netherlands or the Schengen area is required.
- Applicants should ensure they provide the legal residence of the country in which they are applying for the visa.
- If you are applying for this visa for a minor, the original copy of the minor’s birth certificate, as well as a declaration of consent from both parents should be provided.
- You are required to capture your fingerprints at the visa application center. The fingerprint capture has a validity of 5 years.
- Documents to be submitted during the visa application process must be in either Dutch, English, French or Spanish.
- An incomplete application could lead to the rejection of a visa application.
- This visa does not allow you to travel to the Caribbean parts of the Netherlands.
Business visa
- This visa is required by applicants who are traveling to the Netherlands to conduct business or commercial activities.
- Meetings, conferences, trainings, and trade fairs can be attended by holders of the Business Visa.
- This visa does not allow foreigners be paid for work they engage in during their time in the country.
- If you want to be paid for the services you render or for work, you will need to obtain a work permit.
- An official invitation from the company you will be visiting in the Netherlands should be provided. If you will be attending an event, trade fair or conference, an invitation for such event should be provided.
- Evidence of business relationships such as contracts, invoices, proof of imports, etc between the companies involved should be provided.
- Foreigners making the trip to the Netherlands for the purpose of cultural, sports, research or vocational training purposes are required to provide a document from the organizer of the cultural, sports, research or vocational training event in the Netherlands.
- The name of the invited applicant, his/her status, the purpose of the trip and the duration of the trip must be stated.
- You are required to provide a document from your employer stating your job position, salary level, and duration of your trip. This document should also state clearly who will be responsible for your travel expenses.
- Non-Algerians residing in Algeria and are applying for the visa from Algeria are should ensure that they are in possession of a valid Algerian residence card with a validity of at least three months after the intended departure date from the Netherlands.
- Ensure you leave sufficient time gap between the appointment date and the travel date to have their visa application processed.
- A piece of important information for applicants to be aware of is that their passports will be kept by the visa application center during the processing of their visa.
Student visa
- This visa allows foreign students explore the exciting possibilities of studying in any of the academic institutions in the Netherlands.
- If the duration of your study in the Netherlands will last more than 90 days, you may need to apply for a residence permit.
- The educational institution that have accepted you to study will submit an application to the Immigration and Neutralization Service (IND) for a residence permit on your behalf.
- Foreigners need to know how to speak, read, and write English well before they are granted this visa. Your knowledge of the English language is assessed by your performance in IELTS, TOEFL, and Cambridge exams.
- Students are required to have a score of 550 (paper based) or 213 (internet based) for TOEFL. For IELTS, you need to have a score of a minimum of 6.
- The average tuition fee for foreign students who have the intention of studying in the Netherlands is between €6,000 and €15,000 for a bachelor’s programme and between €8,000 and €20,000 for a master’s programme.
- The average cost of living per year for students is between €800 and €1,100.
- Students are entitled to discounts at bars, restaurants, museums, and cinemas.
- If you are studying in the Netherlands on a scholarship, proof of the scholarship must be presented during the visa application.
Transit visa
- This visa allows foreign nationals to transit through the international areas of the airports in the Schengen area without leaving the airport.
- Holders of this visa can board another flight in the Netherlands to their destination country.
- If your transit consists of more than two stops through the Schengen area, you are required to apply for the Schengen visa instead of the Transit Visa, even if you will not be leaving the transit zone of the airport.
- Travelers who possess a valid visa or residence permit issued by a Schengen member state do not require the Transit Visa.
- Holders of the diplomatic passport do not require a Transit Visa.
- Crewmembers of an aircraft and a national of a country that is a party to the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation do not require a visa.
- If you are under the age of 18 years, it is mandatory that you present the original copy of your birth certificate. A declaration of consent from both your parents should also be provided.
- A visa which allows you entry to the country of your destination should be provided.
- Be informed that your visa fee is not refundable after your visa application has been rejected.
