Application requirements
Documents Algerian applicants need to provide.
- Valid travel document or passport accepted by the state of Romania, on which the visa can be affixed. The travel document or passport must have a validity of at least three months from the applicant’s planned departure date.
- The travel document must possess two blank pages and must have been issued within the last 10 years.
- A copy of the visa application form duly completed and signed by the visa applicant. The visa application form of minors must be signed by both their parents or anyone who exercises permanent or temporary parental authority.
- Applicants are to make sure that they are in possession of documents which proof the purpose of their stay in the country, as well as the length of their stay and the possibility of repatriation.
- Two copies of recent color passport-sized photograph taken with a white background.
- Adequate means of subsistence. This must be equivalent to at least €50 per day for the duration of the applicant’s stay in the country but not less than €500.
- Health insurance with a coverage of at least €30,000.
- Payment of the visa application fees. If you make your application through an external service provider, you pay the costs.
- Confirmed accommodation for the duration of your stay in Romania.
Visa type details
Tourist visa
- This visa is for foreign nationals wishing to travel to Romania for sightseeing and other tourist reasons.
- The Tourist Visa is also issued to foreigners who have the intention of visiting Romanian citizens or citizens of foreign countries who hold valid permanent residence in Romania.
- Tourists are required to provide a voucher or firm reservation in a tourist accommodation unit as well as the itinerary of the trip.
- It is expected that all travelers are have a travel ticket valid to their destination or driver’s license, green card, and means of transport registration.
- Applicants of this visa who are visiting Romania on a full tourist package covering accommodation and food do not necessarily to have the estimated amount of €50 to take care of him/herself.
- Foreigners who are paying a Romanian citizen a visit or who are visiting foreign nationals with permanent residence require an invitation from their host.
- The host must state in the invitation letter provided that he/she agrees to pay the cost of removal in the case the visitor refuses to leave Romania as at when due
- When applying for the Tourist Visa, you are required to present the IGI-MAI invitation. The invitation is accompanied by a document stating the purpose of your trip to Romania and is deposited at the headquarters of the territorial units of the General Inspectorate for Immigration for approval.
- Approval of the IGI-MAI invitation takes about 45 days. The approval is granted within 30 days for a group of 20 foreigners traveling to Romania as tourists.
- The Tourist Visa may be issued without the IGI-MAI invitation if the applicant is a married to a Romanian citizen or if the applicant holds a residence permit valid in one of the member states of the European Union.
- Minors who are not accompanied by their parents to Romania are required to provide an agreement on the part of those exercising parental authority or guardianship.
Business visa
- This visa allows foreigners conduct business activities in Romania, as well as attend conferences, meetings, fairs, and congresses.
- All applicants of this visa type are advised to apply for this visa at least two weeks before the planned date of traveling to Romania. There is no guarantee that visas will be granted as soon as you lodge your application.
- A document which states the reason for your planned visit to Romania should be submitted at the Embassy or Consulate during visa application.
- Foreign citizens visiting Romania for business have the right to extend their temporary residence and to be granted a residence permit. Extension for the right of residence should be requested at least 30 days before the expiry of the current visa.
- Applicants of this visa must have fulfilled the legal imposed by the condition of practice of their profession.
- You are required to provide a criminal record certificate issued by the authorities of Algeria, apostilled or over authenticated.
- The IGI-MAI invitation is not required for foreigners who have been requested by administrative authorities or companies governed by Law 31/1990.
- A valid health insurance certificate is required to ensure a seamless issuance of the Business Visa.
- Algerians who have been issued this visa type are not permitted to take up paid or unpaid employment during their time in the country.
- An agreement from those who exercise parental authority or guardianship should be provided in a situation where a minor is not accompanies by either of his/her parents.

Official visa
- This visa is issued to nationals of Algeria who have the intention of traveling to Romania for reasons of political, administrative or public utility under the framework of governments and public administrations of Algeria.
- Family members of holders of this visa can also be issued this visa type.
- This visa is also known as the Official Mission Visa and has a symbol C/M.
- A note verbal or official letter filed by the Government or other authorities of Algeria addressed to the diplomatic mission or to the consular office of Romania should be provided.
- The official status of the applicant must be certified in the note verbal and the purpose of the applicant’s trip must also be stated.
- If the applicant’s purpose of visiting Romania is non-official, he/she is required to apply for the appropriate visa type that suits the purpose of his/her journey.
- A valid means of identification is required from applicants of the Official Visa.
- Applicants of this visa type are duly advised to start the visa application process at least 15 days before the planned date of leaving the country.
Student visa
- This visa is granted to third-country nationals traveling to Romania to attend pre-university, university or postgraduate education courses.
- Foreigners who have the intention of obtaining qualifications as scientists in state or private institutions under the law are also eligible for this visa type.
- If you apply as a student, trainee, or as a participant in a student exchange program or in an educational project and you have been accepted for study in accordance with the international documents, you are also eligible for this visa.
- Before an applicant of this visa is considered as a student, he/she must have been accepted to study at an accredited state or private institution.
- Trainees participating in unpaid professional training programmes are also regarded as students under the Romanian law.
- Foreigners who have been admitted to a secondary, state or private education unit as part of a student exchange program or an educational unit are referred to as “pupils”. Students.
- Applicants of this visa who intend to participate in the student exchange program or education project must be in the age range of 13 and 19 years
- Foreigners who have been accepted to study in any of the academic institutions in Romania are expected to provide proof of admission to study by the Romanian Ministry of National Education.
- Payment of educational tax for at least one year must have been paid by the student. Proof of this payment should be provided.
- A criminal record issued by the authorities in Algeria is required. This criminal record must indicate that the applicant of this visa is free of previous criminal convictions.
- Except you have been enrolled in the preparatory year of Romanian language, you must have adequate knowledge of the language the study program will follow.
- Foreigners participating in a student exchange program or in an education project set up by an educational institution must provide proof of their participation in this program or project.
- Proof that the organization performing the exchange will provide means of subsistence including school fees is required.
- Students participating in unpaid training programs are required to provide a training agreement which states the duration of the internship, control conditions of the placement, the internship hours, and the legal relationship between the trainee and the host entity.
- Student Trainees are expected to possess a higher education diploma obtained within two years before the date of the application of the visa.
Work visa
- This visa is issued to foreigners who have been hired to work by an employer in Romania.
- A copy of the notice of employment issued under the conditions of the special legislation concerning the hiring and secondment of foreigners on Romanian territory should be provided.
- Foreigners called upon to deploy in Romania territory activities requested by ministries or other bodies of the central or local public administration, as well as autonomous authorities are exempt from providing notice of employment.
- If you have been appointed to oversee subsidiaries, missions or branches of Romanian companies who have their head office abroad, you are also exempt from presenting a notice of employment.
- Algerian nationals who have been employed to work in Romania are required to have proof of means of subsistence which is at the level of gross national minimum guaranteed basic salary for the duration of their stay in the country.
- All applicants of this visa are required to provide a criminal record certificate issued by the authorities in Algeria. This document must show that the visa applicant has a clean criminal record.
- You may apply for this visa within 60 days of receiving the notice of employment from your employer in Romania.
- When a foreigner submits a notice of employment issued by the General Inspectorate for Immigrations, the visa is approved within 10 days from the date of the deposit of the visa application by the National Visas Center.
- If you are exempt from obtaining a notice of employment, you will be granted the visa within 30 to 45 days of submitting the application. During this period, the opinion of the Inspectorate General for immigrations would have been obtained.
Detachment Visa
- This visa is issued to foreign citizens who have been called to work in Romania by a company whose headquarters is abroad.
- A copy of the secondment notice issued under the conditions of the special legislation concerning the employment and secondment of foreigners in Romania.
- Foreigners who intend to carry out didactic, scientific or other specific activities of a temporary nature in specialized institutions under bilateral agreements are exempt from providing a copy of the secondment notice.
- Applicants who will be taking part in temporary activities solicited by ministries or other bodies of the central or local public administration or by autonomous administrative authorities are also exempt from providing a copy of the secondment notice.
- You are required to provide proof of means of subsistence which is at the level of the basic minimum wage for the period of your stay in the country.
- Applicants of the Detachment Visa should ensure they are in possession of a certificate of criminal record which indicates that they have not been previously convicted for any criminal offences.
- Health insurance valid for the duration of your stay in Romania is an important document to be submitted during the visa application process.
- Applicants who are exempt from providing a copy of the posting notice are required to provide a copy of the individual employment agreement registered with the competent authorities.
- Translated and authenticated copy of the posting document should also be provided by those who are exempt from providing a copy of the posting notice.
- You may apply for this visa within 60 days of the posting of the posting notice by your employer.
- When a foreigner submits a notice of employment issued by the General Inspectorate for Immigrations, the visa is approved within 10 days from the date of the deposit of the visa application by the National Visas Center.
- If you are exempt from obtaining a notice of employment, you will be granted the visa within 30 to 45 days of submitting the application. During this period, the opinion of the Inspectorate General for immigrations would have been obtained.
Transit visa
- This visa allows foreigners gain entry into Romania for the purpose of transit.
- The validity of the Transit Visa does not exceed a period of 5 days.
- The Transit Visa may be issued one, two or more transits without the duration of each transit exceeding 5 days.
- Applicants of this visa are required to provide the visa of the country of their final destination.
- If you are traveling to your destination country by air, travel tickets to the destination country is required. If you are traveling by car, the driver’s license, the vehicle registration documents and the green card must be presented.
- Foreigners applying for this visa are required to provide a document proving that they will return to their home country at the expiry of their visa.
- Holders of the diplomatic visa do not require a Transit Visa.
- Members of aviation crews as nationals of a party to the Chicago Convention on Intentional Civil Aviation.
