Application requirements

Documents Algerian applicants need to provide.

  • Algerian passport which has two blank pages and has a validity of not less than 6 months from your departure date.
  • A printed copy of the visa application form filled out by the applicant on the Embassy’s website. A passport photograph must be attached to the printout.
  • 3 passport photographs of the size 3.5cmx4.5cm. The back of the photograph is to be signed by the visa applicant at the end of the interview.
  • Flight ticket with confirmed entry and exit dates from Russia. The dates on the ticket must tally with the dates indicated on the visa.
  • Confirmation of booked hotel.
  • Travel insurance with a certified insurance company. The insurance must have sufficient coverage for medical insurance.

Visa type details

Tourist visa
  • Applicants of this visa type are foreigners visiting Russia as tourists and foreigners making private visits to their friends or family members residing in Russia.
  • This visa type is only issued for single or double entries. A double entry visa is issued if the documents you provide indicate that you will be visiting a neighboring country for the same reason you are in Russia.
  • The validity of both the single-entry and double-entry visa cannot exceed one month.
  • You are required to provide the official invitation into Russia you received. The letter must have the seal of acceptance from the Ministry of External Affairs of the Russian Federation. The invitation is usually accompanied by a tourist voucher.
  • The tourist voucher must indicate the name of the Russian travel company with its registration number and the entry and exit dates of the foreigner. The services that the foreigner paid the company for should also be indicated on the tourist voucher
  • A foreigner’s visa application can be rejected if one or more of the required documents are missing during the visa application.
  • Foreigners who are in Russia for private visits should provide original of copies of documents which confirms the relationship with their host.
  • If you are applying for a visa valid for more than 3 months, you are required to provide a certificate of absence of HIV infection.
  • You won’t be allowed to leave Russia until you obtain a valid exit visa if you overstay the duration of your visa for even a minute. A Home Return Certificate is issued if the reason for overstaying your visa is health related.
  • Minors who are traveling to Russia unaccompanied should ensure they have a notarized consent signed by both their parents or they will not be allowed to leave the country.

Business visa
  • This visa is issued to business travelers who have the intention of engaging in business activities during their time in Russia.
  • Applicants of this visa are required to provide the original invitation issued by the Federal Migration Service (FMS) of Russia.
  • This visa generally has a longer validity than the Tourist Visa.
  • Business Visas can be for single-entry or double-entry for valid for up to three months and can be issued as for multiple entries for up to one year.
  • You are required to have made payment of the consular fees. Confirmation of this payment should be provided.
  • A correctly filled visa application which has a passport-sized photograph attached to it is required.
  • Foreigners who will be residing in Russia for more than 30 days should ensure they are in possession of a certificate which indicates the absence of HIV.
  • Just like in many countries of the world, you are required to register with the Federal Migration Service within 7 days of your arrival in Russia.
  • If you misplace or lose your passport while you are in Russia, you must apply to the Federal Migration Service to transfer your visa to your replacement passport.
  • You may be able to get an extension to your visa type with the intervention of your host, but this is not guaranteed.

Work visa
  • Foreigners who are granted the Work Visa are those who have been offered employment by a company in Russia.
  • For the Work Visa, your passport must have a validity of more than 18 months instead of the usual 6 months.
  • You are required to present the original invitation issued by the territorial body of the Federal Migration Service (FMS) of Russia.
  • Applicants of this visa are required to be in possession of a certificate which shows the absence of HIV. The certificate must not be older than 3 months before the period of visa application.
  • Proof that the fee required to be paid for the visa application has been paid in full should be provided.
  • Copies of your CV or Resume should be submitted during the visa application.
  • You are expected to register with the Federal Migration Service (FMS) of Russia within 7 days of arriving in Russia.
  • Staying in Russia longer than the time stated on your visa is illegal. If you do this, you will not be allowed to leave the country without obtaining an exit visa.

Student visa
  • This visa is issued to foreign nationals who have the intention of studying in any of the academic institutions in the country.
  • The institution you will be taking your study programme will issue a letter of invitation to you. The letter of invitation must state the course you will be studying and the length of the study programme.
  • Foreign students coming to study in Russia will also be issued an invitation by the territorial body of the Federal Migration Service (FMS) of Russia. The invitation letter should be provided during the visa application.
  • Unlike the Tourist and Business Visas, the validity of your passport must exceed 18 months prior to the intended period of exiting the country.
  • A certificate which indicates that the visa applicant is free of HIV should be provided.
  • The consular fee payment should be made before the visa interview, confirmation of payment is vital in determining the outcome of your visa application.
  • You are required to provide copies of education certificates you obtain from institutions you previously attended. It must include the mandatory issuance of marks for the last year of study with an indication of the average score.
  • Foreigners should ensure they provide a medical certificate from a therapist in their country of residence which shows the absence of contraindications to study in Russia.
  • Evidence that the prospective student is free of HIV is required.
  • Graduates are required to provide a list of published articles or abstracts or a summary of the proposed dissertation. This should be about 3 pages long and should be in English or Russian.
  • Applicants who are under the age of 18 years traveling unaccompanied to Russia should ensure they have a notarized consent signed by both their parents or they will not be allowed to leave the country.

Transit visa
  • This visa is issued to those who have the intention of transiting through Russia to their destination country by air.
  • The visa is issued for single-entry valid for 72 hours.
  • In some cases, a double-entry visa is issued to foreigners. The validity of the double-entry visa cannot exceed 10 days.
  • Applicants who will not be leaving the transit zone of the international airport and will not be exceeding 24 hours in Russia do not need to apply for a Transit Visa.
  • All applicants of the Transit Visa should ensure they are in possession of flight tickets to their destination country.
  • A valid visa to gain entry into the destination country should also be provided.
  • A visa application form which has the appropriate photograph attached to it should be provided. It must be signed by the visa applicant.
  • Foreigners with cases of lost or misplaced passports should ensure they apply for the transfer of their visa to a replacement passport at the Federal Migration Service (FMS).
