Basic Travel Requirements for Algerians visiting United Kingdom

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Briton Visa.

General Requirements for United Kingdom Visa

United Kingdom Standard Visitor Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Standard Visitor Visa is for you if you are traveling to the United Kingdom for leisure or to pay friends and family a visit.
  • The Standard Visitor Visa can also be applied for if you are traveling for business or to take part in sports and creative events. Also, you can apply for this visa type if your intention of visiting the country is to receive private medical treatment.
  • This visa category was created to take the place of the Family Visitor Visa, General Visitor Visa, Child Visitor Visa, Business Visitor Visa, Sports Visitor Visa, Entertainer Visitor Visa, Prospective Entrepreneur Visa, Private Medical Treatment Visitor Visa, and Approved Destination Status (ADS) Visa.
  • Professionals like doctors or dentists visiting the UK to take a clinical attachment or observer post, artist, entertainers or musicians visiting the United Kingdom to perform in a show or event are eligible applicants of this visa.
  • Bearing this visa, you are allowed to study for up to 30 days as long as it is not the main purpose of your visit to the country. If you are under the age of 18 years, you can take part in an exchange programme. The Standard Visitor Visa can play the role of a Transit Visa.
  • This visa allows you to have the right of successfully converting your civil partnership into a marriage but you can neither marry or register a civil partnership nor give notice of marriage or civil partnership.
  • Holders of this visa are not entitled to public funds and they are not allowed to be employed by any company in the United Kingdom whether for paid or unpaid employment. Living in the United Kingdom for long periods through frequent visits are not allowed.
  • You are advised to start the visa application process 3 months before your planned date of departure from your home country. Visa processing times generally vary across countries.
  • If you are visiting the United Kingdom for private medical treatment, you can be in the United Kingdom for up to 11 months. If you are an academic and you are visiting the United Kingdom for research, you and your spouse are allowed to reside in the country for up to 12 months. A biometric residence permit is requested from you if you will be staying in the United Kingdom for more than 6 months.
  • Foreigners in the country who are undergoing private medical treatment are eligible to extend the duration of their visa for a further 6 months if they have already made payment for the treatment and they can still afford extra costs that may arise while they are in the UK.
  • Before the visa will be extended, you must provide a letter stating the likely duration of the treatment and the level the treatment has currently gotten to. You must still be present in the United Kingdom when applying for an extension to this visa. The waiting time for the extension of this visa type is approximately 8 weeks.
  • If you are under the age of 18 years and you are traveling alone, you must provide written consent from your parent or guardian confirming they are aware of your travel plans.
  • Minors traveling with an adult must identify the person they are traveling within their visa application. If the person is not your parent, you will need to provide additional information about them in your visa application.

United Kingdom Standard Visitor Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa type is issued to you if you have the intention of getting married or registering a civil partnership in the United Kingdom. This visa is for you if you want to give notice of a marriage or civil partnership in the United Kingdom.
  • If you plan to take up permanent residence in the UK after registering your marriage or civil partnership, you will not be issued this visa type.
  • Foreigners who only want to convert their marriage into a civil partnership can apply for the Standard Visitor Visa instead.
  • The earliest possible time you can apply for this visa type is 3 months before the intended period of your travel. You will likely receive a decision on your visa application after 3 weeks.
  • While you are in the United Kingdom on this visa, you are not entitled to public funds, be accompanied by your family members or reside in the United Kingdom for a long period of time through frequent visits.
  • Also, you cannot extend or switch this visa type. You are allowed to study for only 30 days and studying cannot be your main reason for traveling to the United Kingdom. Working is also prohibited.
  • For you to be eligible for this visa type, you must not be less than the age of 18 years and you must be in a genuine relationship with someone who holds permanent residence in the United Kingdom.
  • Having the consent to give free notice of marriage, to marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK within 6 months of your arrival is a major criterion for you to be issued this visa.
  • The total duration of your stay in the United Kingdom must not exceed 6 months and you must leave the country on or before your visa expires.
  • During your time in the country, you should be able to provide support for yourself without seeking public funds or without being actively employed.
  • You must be able to provide adequate proof that you are really getting married in the United Kingdom and you must show proof of your future plans for the relationship.
  • Applicants of this visa who have been in a marriage before now should ensure they provide a decree absolute or a copy of their death certificate which absolves them of their previous marriage.
  • Your biometric features (fingerprint and photograph) must be taken at a visa application center before you are granted this visa.

United Kingdom Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Transit Visa is for foreign nationals who will be passing through the United Kingdom in transit to a third country. This visa permits you to change flights and go through border control in the United Kingdom.
  • If you are unable to prove that the sole purpose of visiting the United Kingdom is for transit to a third country, you will not be granted this visa.
  • Entry permits into the third country should be provided. They may include residence permit, green card, and a valid visa.
  • A flight booking email, printed tickets, and confirmation from a travel agent are needed as evidence of your onward journey.
  • Algerians who are in possession of a Standard Visitor Visa, Marriage Visitor Visa, and an EEA family permit do not need to apply for this visa.
  • There are two types of the Transit Visa; Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) and Visitor in Transit Visa.
  • Taking up paid or unpaid employment on this visa is highly prohibited.
  • Application for either the Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) or Visitor in Transit Visa must be done online but you will need to visit a visa application centre to ensure that your biometric features are captured.
  • The Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) costs £35 while the Visitor in Transit Visa costs £64.

United Kingdom Short-term Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is for those who have the intention of doing a short course of study in any of the academic institutions in the United Kingdom and you are not from the European Economic Area or Switzerland.
  • Doing research for a short period of time which is a prerequisite for completing your degree programme in a foreign academic institution is allowed on this visa.
  • Those who intend to study in a school which is state-funded are not eligible for this visa.
  • Working or engaging in business activities in the United Kingdom is prohibited. You are not entitled to public funds.
  • Family members who intend to accompany you to the United Kingdom must apply for a separate visa.
  • Your visa becomes invalid after 6 months if you are doing a short course or you are doing research. For those who are taking English language courses, their visa ceases to be valid after 11 months.
  • The 6-month visa costs £97 while the 11-month visa costs £186.
  • Applicants of this visa must provide proof that they have been offered admission in an academic institution to take up a course of study and also proof that they have the sufficient means to take care of themselves for the duration of their study programme.
  • To learn the English language as a foreign language or visit the UK for research, you must be at least 16 years old.
  • If you are studying in an academic institution not resident in the United Kingdom, the institution must be accredited and they must offer programmes that are equivalent to a UK degree.
  • Foreigners are expected to have a Tuberculosis test result if they have the intention of staying in the UK for more than 6 months.
  • Your documents must be in English or Welsh. If the documents have been translated into English or Welsh from another language, you must provide a certified translation.
  • You may be required to provide academic certificates, references or transcripts from schools you previously studied attended.
  • If you have a financial sponsor, a document which proves the sponsor’s occupation, income, savings or funds should be provided.
  •  A letter of consent from a parent or guardian is a necessary document to be submitted during the visa application.

United Kingdom General Student Visa (Tier 4) Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is issued to foreign nationals who are 16 years or over and have been offered admission to study a course in an academic institution in the United Kingdom.
  • The courses that can be studied by applicants of this visa can be any of the following; full-time leading to a qualification that is at least level 6 on the Ofqual register, part-time leading to a qualification that is at least level 7 on the Ofqual register, a course in an institution outside the UK that is on par with the one that is being run in an academic institution in the UK, full-time with a minimum of 15 hours per week of organized day time study which leads to a qualification at level 3 on the Ofqual register, a foundation programme as a postgraduate doctor or dentist, or an English language course at level B2 or above.
  • It is important for applicants of this visa to be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language.
  • As part of your application, you have to pay a healthcare fee.
  • If the duration of your course is 6 months or less, you can arrive and stay in the United Kingdom for up to 1 week before your academic programme starts. If your course will last for over 6 months, you can arrive and stay in the UK for up to 1 month.
  • During your time in the UK, you are allowed to work as a student union sabbatical officer and work in most jobs except as a professional sportsperson or as a sports coach.
  • These visa applicants are allowed to be accompanied to the United Kingdom by their family members who are dependents.
  • Before you are granted this visa, you must have been offered a place on a course in an academic institution in the United Kingdom.
  • Foreigners who have the intention of studying as postgraduate doctors or dentists must have completed a degree in medicine or dentistry and must have spent the last year and at least one other year during their study for the degree in the United Kingdom.
  • As soon as you have been offered admission into an academic institution in the country, you will receive a reference number known as a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS). This reference number must be entered on the visa application. Application for the visa must be done within 6 months after receiving the CAS.
  • If you are willing to stay in the United Kingdom and look for work after the completion of your PhD or doctorate programme, you will receive a CAS.
  • You must have taken and passed a secure English language test which proves your proficiency in the English language. You are not required to prove your proficiency in the English language if you previously studied in the United Kingdom as a Child Student (Tier 4).
  • Presenting a tuberculosis test result is a required document for you to be granted this visa.
  • A letter of consent from a parent or guardian should be provided.
  • This visa can be extended. An application for the extension of this visa must be done before the expiration of the current visa.
  • You can change from a General Student Visa to any of the following visas; Intra-company transfer and Child Student Visa.

United Kingdom Child Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is issued to foreign nationals who are not from a country in the European Economic Area or Switzerland and are between the ages of 4 and 17 years who have the intention of studying in an independent school in the United Kingdom.
  • Consent from a parent or guardian and proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your course fees and living costs.
  • The duration of your stay in the United Kingdom is dependent on your age and the length of your study programme. If you are below 16 years, you can stay in the UK for your course length (up to 6 years) and an extra 4 months. If you are 16 or 17 years, you are allowed to stay in the UK for the course length (up to 3 years) and an extra 4 months after.
  • If the duration of your course is 6 months or less, you can arrive and stay in the United Kingdom for up to 1 week before your academic programme starts. If your course will last for over 6 months, you can arrive and stay in the UK for up to 1 month.
  • Foreigners who are up to 16 years of age and over are allowed to work part-time when their school is in session for up to 10 hours and full-time during school breaks. They can also be on a work placement as part of their course which should not exceed 50% of their total course time.
  • While you are in the United Kingdom, you are cannot work as a doctor or dentist in training or work as a professional sportsperson or entertainer. Taking a full-time permanent job or being self-employed is also not allowed.
  • Applicants of this visa should take note that taking up permanent residence in the country is a violation of the country’s rules.
  • Eligibility for this visa type is largely dependent on you having been offered admission in any of the academic institutions in the country.
  • Foreign students in the United Kingdom can do short courses which will serve as preparation for the main course, such as pre-sessional study. Pre-sessional courses do not include courses that prepare you for direct entry into a higher educational institution.
  • You will receive a reference number known as Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the institution you have been accepted into. This number must be filled in the visa application.
  • It is important that you submit a tuberculosis test result during the visa application.

United Kingdom General Work Visa (Tier 2) Eligibility & Requirements

  • Foreigners who been who are outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland who have been offered a skilled job in the United Kingdom are those who can apply for this visa.
  • Before applying to live in the United Kingdom, you must be employed by a licensed sponsor in the country. Your application must have been thoroughly assessed by your employer before you will be assigned a certificate of sponsorship.
  • As part of your application, it is mandatory that you pay a healthcare surcharge. You will also need to pay a fee of £19.20 for your biometric features to be captured.
  • The validity of your stay in the United Kingdom is 5 years and 14 days, or the duration stated in your certificate of sponsorship, plus an extra month, whichever is shorter.
  • This visa can be for up to 5 years, as long as you have not been in the country for more than 6 years.
  • In certain circumstances, you are permitted to have a second job. Doing voluntary work is also not prohibited.
  • If you have the intention of studying, you can do so as long as it does not affect the job you are doing.
  • Unless your annual salary is £159,600, you cannot own above 10% of your sponsor’s shares.
  • If you are working for up to 20 hours in a week in the same profession and at the same level or a profession which is on the shortage occupation list, you are allowed to apply for a second job.
  • An appropriate amount must be paid to you for the job you will be doing and your knowledge of the English language is an important criterion to be met before you can be granted this visa. Your knowledge of the English language can be approved by passing an approved English language test.
  • Applicants of this visa are required to be in possession of a criminal record certificate from a country you have been residing in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years.
  • Your employer must issue you a certificate of sponsorship which has clearly states your bio-data and information about the job you have been offered. The certificate of employment is an electronic record and not a paper document.
  • Foreigners who want to apply for this visa must have a minimum of £945 in their bank account for 90 days. This does not apply to you if you have an approved A-rated sponsor who can cater if your needs if needed.
  • All the documents to be submitted must be in English or Welsh. If the document is to be translated into English or Welsh, you must provide a certified translation of the document.
  • If you want to change jobs or your job has a different standard occupation classification (SOC) code, you may need to apply for a new General Work Visa.
  • You and your dependents can apply for an extension to this visa.

United Kingdom Intra-company Transfer (Tier 2) Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is issued to those who have been offered a job in the United Kingdom branch of the organization they are working for. These people must be from outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland.
  • This visa type required you to be employed by a licensed sponsor. The sponsor will assign you a certificate of sponsorship which is a confirmation that your application has been thoroughly checked and you qualify for the job you have been offered.
  • The certificate of sponsorship you will be issued must be within 3 months after obtaining it from your employer. The certificate of sponsorship must contain all your details.
  • The Intra-company Transfer Visa is of two types, Long-term Staff and Graduate Trainee.
  • Those applying for the Long-term staff visa are those who are transferring to a role that they have had previous working experience in the company. You are required to have been staff in the company for more than 12 months or you are going to receive an annual salary of £73,000 or more to be eligible for this visa.
  • Payment of the healthcare surcharge is an important part of your visa application. This payment must be made before you can be granted this visa.
  • The duration of your stay in the country is dependent on the maximum time allowed for your visa or the time stated on your certificate of sponsorship, whichever is shorter. If you apply for a Long-term Staff Visa and you in excess of £120,000 per annum, you are allowed to stay in the country for up to 9 years. If you apply for a Long-term Staff Visa and your proposed yearly income is not up to £120,000, you can stay in the country for 5 years and 1 month. Those applying for the Graduate Trainee Visa are allowed to live and stay in the United Kingdom for a total of 12 months.
  • For a maximum of up to 20 hours weekly, you are allowed to do a second job in the same profession and at the same level. You are also permitted to do voluntary work while you are in the country.
  • This visa allows you to study as long as it has no effect on the productivity of the job you have been sponsored for.
  • You have no claim to public funds.
  • Applicants of this visa are required to present sufficient proof of having worked for their employer outside the United Kingdom. Applicants should also endure that they will be receiving an amount monthly for the job they are doing.
  • The minimum amount to be paid to the Long-term staff is £41,500 while the minimum amount to be paid to foreigners who are Graduate Trainees is £23,000.
  • You must have a personal savings of about £945 for 90 days before you will be granted this visa.
  • Test results which show the absence of tuberculosis should be presented during the visa application.
  • The Long-term Staff Visa can be extended for the time stated on your certificate of sponsorship plus an extra 14 days, or the time needed to extend your stay to the maximum time allowed in the category, or whichever is shorter.
  • The Graduate Trainee Visa cab only be extended if the duration of the original visa was for less than 12 months. The visa can only be extended by up to 12 months.
  • You are required to provide your biometric features during the visa application.

United Kingdom Sportsperson Visa (Tier 2) Eligibility & Requirements

  • If you an elite sportsperson or a qualified coach recognized by your sport’s governing body as being at the highest level of your profession, you can apply for this visa. Your application must be endorsed by the sport’s governing body.
  • The governing body endorsing your application is your sponsor and they will assign a certificate of sponsorship to you.
  • The certificate of sponsorship is an electronic record which contains relevant information about the applicant and information relating to the work the applicant has been offered in the United Kingdom. The certificate of sponsorship reference number must be included in your application.
  • You will need to pay a healthcare surcharge and £19.20 to have your biometric features captured. Without this, your visa application may not be accepted.
  • The Sportsperson Visa is valid for up to 3 years and it can be extended for up to an extra 3 years to a maximum stay of 6 years.
  • While you are in the United Kingdom, you are permitted to do a second job in certain circumstances. Playing for your national team, working as a sports broadcaster, and studying is possible on this visa.
  • You are not permitted to start or run a business on this visa. You also cannot apply for another job unless you have started working for your sponsor.
  • Applicants of this visa must have a total saving which sums up to £945. This sum of money should have been in the applicant’s bank account for 90 days before applying for the visa. However, this becomes unnecessary if you have a sponsor that can give you this money when needed.
  • Passing an approved English language test will be used to judge your knowledge of the English language.
  • The governing body of sport sponsoring you must issue you an endorsement letter if you are applying as a sportsperson or coach.
  • You are required to present your tuberculosis test results during the visa application.
  • A certified translation must be provided if any of the documents you will be submitting is not in English or Welsh.
  • This visa can be extended for you and your dependents who are in the United Kingdom on this visa. Before applying for an extension to this visa, your endorsement from the sport’s governing body must be renewed and you must be given a new certificate of sponsorship reference number.
  • The Sportsperson Visa can be extended for up to 3 years and 14 days after which you cannot reapply for the visa unless you can present proof that your yearly salary will be £159,600 or more.

United Kingdom Seasonal Worker Visa (Tier 5) Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is issued to those who are traveling to the United Kingdom to do farm work for up to 6 months. This visa requires you have a sponsor and be from outside the European Economic Area.
  • Your employer has to give you a certificate of sponsorship before you will be issued this visa. The only job you can do while in the country is the one described in the certificate of sponsorship you have been issued.
  • Holders of this visa cannot take another job or a job that is not described in their certificate of sponsorship and you also cannot be employed permanently.
  • Foreigners must have at least £945 in their bank account for 90 days prior to initiating their visa application.
  • While filling the visa application form, you must include the sponsorship reference number on the certificate of sponsorship issued to you by your sponsor. This reference number can only be used once.
  • Applicants of this visa must undergo a tuberculosis test before applying for this visa. The tuberculosis test result must indicate the absence of the disease.
  • All documents must be in English or Welsh, documents that are not already in either of these languages must be translated.

United Kingdom Government Authorized Exchange Visa (Tier 5) Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Government Authorized Exchange Visa is for those who will be visiting the United Kingdom for work experience, training, or to do an Overseas Government Language Programme.
  • A necessary requirement for you to be considered for this visa is for you to have a sponsor and you must not be a citizen of the European Economic Area.
  • The work stated on your certificate of sponsorship must relate to the work, training or research that you want to be doing in the United Kingdom. Your sponsor can be a government department, an organization running an approved exchange scheme, or a higher education institution.
  • As part of your application, it is mandatory that you pay a healthcare surcharge. You will also need to pay a fee of £19.20 for your biometric features to be captured.
  • The duration of the visa is dependent on the scheme you are applying for, it could be either 12 or 24 months or the time indicated on your certificate of sponsorship plus an additional 28 days, whichever is shorter.
  • If you are doing work experience, you can stay in the United Kingdom for 12 months and you are allowed to remain the country for 24 months if you are doing research, training or an Overseas Government Language Programme.
  • You can take up a second job and work for up to 20 hours weekly or apply for a change in your visa into a Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa.
  • Foreigners on this visa are not qualified for public funds and they cannot work in the United Kingdom permanently.
  • It is mandatory for you to provide a tuberculosis test result during the visa application.
  • You can be accompanied to the United Kingdom by your dependents which may include children under the age of 18 years.
  • If you intend changing your sponsor within the same organization or move to a different organization, you must reapply and meet all the necessary requirements.

United Kingdom Exceptional Talent Visa (Tier 1) Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa type is issued to those who have been endorsed as a recognized leader (exceptional talent) or an emerging leader (exceptional promise) in a qualifying field. The qualifying fields are science, engineering, humanities, medicine, digital technology, arts, fashion, architecture, film, and television.
  • Digital Technology Specialists are required to apply for a Tech Nation Visa endorsement.
  • Only 2,000 slots are available for this visa type yearly.
  • There are two stages to be passed when applying for this visa; the first stage is to send your application to the Home Office for endorsement as a leader or an emerging leader in your field while the second stage is to apply for the visa. If your application is rejected, you are permitted to seek an endorsement review.
  • Both stages can be completed simultaneously but most applicants prefer applying for the endorsement stage first. If your endorsement is refused, your visa application will also be refused.
  • You will receive an email from the Home Office with a copy of your endorsement letter if your endorsement is successful. This should be presented during the visa application.
  • A separate fee is paid for each stage of applying for this visa. The endorsement stage costs £456 while the visa application stage also costs £456.
