- The Chile tourist visa is for Burkinabés traveling to Chile for tourism purposes.
- Travelers who overstay their visa should go to the Migration Department of the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security.
- If your Tourist Card is lost or stolen, you can get a replacement Tourist Card at any PDI (International Police) Office or at Santiago's international airport.
- The local currency is the Chilean Peso (CLP). Amounts exceeding USD10,000 must be declared on arrival and departure. USD can be readily exchanged throughout Chile.
- When handling local currency, check that you are given the correct change as vendors, including taxi drivers, sometimes swap denominations to either short-change travelers.
- ATMs are widely available. Contact your bank to find out whether your cards will work in Chile. Credit cards are widely accepted.
- If you're planning scientific, technical or mountaineering activities in areas classified as 'frontier areas', you need to get authorization from the Chilean government at least 90 days prior to the expedition.
- Avoid hailing taxis on the street, particularly if traveling alone or at night. Instead, ask your hotel to make a telephone booking for you. Make sure that the driver uses the meter. Rideshare apps are also available. Prepaid official taxis are available at the airport.
- Penalties for possession, use or trafficking of illegal drugs in Chile are severe and include lengthy imprisonment in local jails.
- Take out comprehensive travel insurance before you depart to cover overseas medical costs, including medical evacuation. Make sure your policy includes adequate coverage for any pre-existing conditions.
- Remember, regardless of how healthy and fit you are, if you can't afford travel insurance, you can't afford to travel.
Chile Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Burkinabés intending to travel to Chile to seek for employment can apply for the Chile student visa.
- Prior to beginning your job in Chile, your work permit has to be signed by yourself and your employer, and then notarized at your Chilean consulate.
- A police clearance certificate (not older than three months) detailing whether the applicant has a criminal record must be provided.
- Applicants must be between the age of 18 to 35.
- A medical letter confirming you are free of infectious diseases must be provided and signed by a registered medical practitioner and dated within 30 days prior to the date of application
- An official letter from your employer to the consul, explaining your role in the company must be provided.
- Before you send in your paperwork, there are a few details you should be aware of. Your employer has to visit the Chilean Department of Foreign Affairs in order to have his or her signature notarized.
- You will also have to visit the Chilean consulate to sign your work contract and have it notarized; make an appointment and pay the necessary fee in advance. Pre-signed work contracts are usually not accepted.
- Your work contract has to follow Chilean law and contain the following phrases:
- The employer is obligated to reimburse the legally required income tax resulting from the employee’s paid remuneration.
- The employer is obligated to reimburse the employee’s social security contributions in Chile or abroad.
- The employer is responsible for paying the employee and his family’s return tickets once the contract is terminated.
