Tourist visa
- The San Marino tourist visa is available to Burundians looking to travel to the country for tourism or leisure.
- San Marino is only accessible via Italy. Entrance to the country is not possible without entering the Schengen Area first and therefore Schengen visa rules apply de facto.
- A category C short-stay Schengen visa is required for a tourist visit to San Marino.
- There are two types of Schengen tourist visa:
- The single-entry visa: This allows for an uninterrupted stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period (180 days).
- The multiple-entry visa: This allows you to enter and leave the Schengen area multiple times as long as your combined stay in the area does not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period.
- Foreign visitors staying more than 10 days in San Marino must have a permit from the government.
- If you’re staying in San Marino for less than 30 days in an official residence (i.e., hotel or bed and breakfast apartment) you don’t need a ‘permesso di soggiorno turistico’. However, if you’re staying privately, you’ll need to report your stay to the Ufficio Stranieri (Foreigners’ Office) of the local Gendarmerie within 24 hours of arrival.
- The CDC and WHO recommend the following vaccinations for San Marino: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rabies, meningitis, polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis), chickenpox, shingles, pneumonia, and influenza.
- Travelers are allowed to enter San Marino with the following duty-free:
- 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco.
- 1L of spirits or 2L of fortified wine, sparkling wine or any alcoholic drink under 22% volume.
- 4L of still wine.
- 16L of beer.
- Goods, including perfume and electronic devices, up to a value of €430 for air and sea travelers, and €300 for land travelers.
Student visa
- Burundians can apply for the San Marino student visa if they have the intention of studying in San Marino.
- Burundians who intend to enroll in university courses or courses of professional/vocational training at authorized/qualified institutions can apply for this visa, as well as those invited to conduct cultural and research activities in San Marino.
- A certificate of registration for the intended course of study is required.
- The frequency of attendance or course activity must be at least 40 hours/month. These hours must be mandatory and should be specified in the certificate.
- The certificate must be issued on the school's letterhead with a legible signature of its issuer.
- The receipt of the school fees payment must be attached to the certificate of pre-registration submitted.
- In case of professional/vocational training, a formal declaration of responsibility (formale dichiarazione di responsalibilita) must be issued by the legal representative of the institution and must be sent to the competent Provincial Bureau of Labor - Labor Inspection Department.
- In addition, a carbon copy of the declaration must be sent to the Italian diplomatic mission. The declaration must guarantee that the student will not engage in any activities that could lead to a paid-employment in the course of training.
- A document, which demonstrates that the educational institution is authorized by the Italian Government or by the Institute of Education (only for private schools) must be provided.
- In case there is no official record of registration, it is possible to submit a certificate of registration to the Chamber of Commerce or to the School Board Charter (Statuto della Scuola).
- Evidence of financial capacity (scholarship and/or proof of the applicant's personal or his/her family's balance in a bank account) must be provided.
