Bhutan Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This is the type of visa issued to persons who intend to visit Bhutan for tourism purposes.
  • You can also visit relatives and friends with this visa during your time in the country.
  • The Bhutan tourist visa is a short-stay visa.
  •  It is usually valid for a period of 14 days.
  • Applicants are not required to be present when applying for this visa.
  • Visitors wishing to travel to Bhutan cannot apply for the Bhutan Visa on their own. The Bhutan Visa application and all Bhutan tours must be arranged by a licensed Bhutanese travel agency or one of their international partners.
  • If approved, they are given a visa clearance letter, and must present it at the port of entry.
  • The visa is then stamped into their passport. Foreign tourists must use a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or one of their international partners to pre-arrange their visa and book their holiday.
  • Upon entering Bhutan, all foreigners are issued a 7 or 14 days "Entry Permit" by default, valid for Thimphu and Paro only.
  • You must provide proof of your financial ability so as to support yourself financially during your stay.

  • This is the type of visa issued to Ghanaians traveling to Bhutan for business purposes.
  • Travelers are free to attend business meetings and conferences while on this visa.
  • Holders of this visa cannot get paid for any of the services they render while in the country.
  • You cannot take up any course of learning or be enrolled in any of the schools in the country with this visa.
  • An official letter of invitation from your partner company in Bhutan is required. The letter must indicate your job position, the address of the company, duration, and purpose of the business trip.
  • If you are meeting with more than one company, a letter of invitation from each company should be submitted during the visa application process.
  • Your current employer should give you a certificate confirming that he/she is aware of your business travel.
  • This letter should be presented at the embassy or consulate while applying for your visa.
  • You must not overstay on this visa.
  • Overstaying is an offense and carries serious consequences.

Bhutan Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is meant for foreigners who have the intention of making short stops in Bhutan.
  • Applicants of this visa may intend to board a connecting flight from an airport in Bhutan to their destination country.
  • The visa and other entry permits of the destination country are required.
  • Foreigners should ensure they have a flight ticket to their destination country.
  • Traveling from Ghana to Bhutan and from Bhutan back to Ghana cannot be regarded as transit.
  • The Transit Visa cannot be extended.
  • Minors should ensure they have the original copy of their birth certificate and a letter of consent signed by both their parents.
  • Foreigners should possess a certificate of vaccination against yellow fever.
  • Proof of payment of visa application fee is required.
