Basic Travel Requirements for Ghanaians visiting Iceland

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Icelander Visa.

  • Duly completed and signed application form.
  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
  • A passport size photograph (35X45 mm).
  • Travel document.
  • Proof of financial support.
  • Documentation showing applicants ties to home country, e.g. verification from applicant’s employer.
  • Medical Insurance. The insurance coverage must be at least 30,000 Euros.

Iceland Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This is the type of visa issued to persons who intend to visit Iceland for tourism purposes.
  • You can also visit family and friends while on this visa.
  • All visitors to Iceland must carry a valid passport.
  • Applicants seeking this visa need to submit an invitation letter from a family member or host living in Iceland.
  • This letter should clearly state the address and contact details of the host, as well as your relationship with them.
  •  During the visa application, you will need to provide proof of sufficient funds to last the duration of your stay.
  • The Iceland tourist visa is valid for only 90 days.
  • You are advised to exit the country before your visa expires.
  • This visa does not serve study purposes. You cannot be enrolled in any of the institutions of learning in the country.

Iceland Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This is the type of visa issued to Ghanaians traveling to Iceland for business purposes.
  • You will need to provide an invitation letter from the Iceland company you will be visiting.
  • This letter will also contain their detailed address, accompanied with the date and actual purpose of your trip.
  • If the intention is to attend a meeting or seminar, confirmation/invitation from the conference organizer/institution is required.
  • If you are employed, you will have to present a certificate from your employer stating or allowing your business travel.
  • Your bank statement from the last 6 months is needed.
  • Self-employed people will submit proof of business registration.
  • You cannot be gainfully employed while you are in the country with this visa.
  • It must be made clear whether your trip will be sponsored by the employer or the local company.

Iceland Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • A foreigner who wants to stay and study in Iceland will require either a student visa or a student residence permit.
  • Study visas in Iceland are generally a hassle-free affair.
  • Students outside the EU/EEA will need to apply for a residence permit before arriving in Iceland.
  • This can be done by contacting the Directorate of Immigration in Iceland or by notifying the nearest Icelandic embassy.
  • On the other hand, EU/EEA students who wish to study in Iceland will not need a visa.
  • However, if they are planning to stay for longer than three months, they are required to list their legal residence at Registers Iceland (which is the civic registry of Iceland) once they arrive in the country.
  • All students, regardless of country of origin, must apply for a Kennitala – an Icelandic ID/social security number.
  • This social security number is used for every day matters, such as opening a bank account.
  • Student visas in Iceland are flexible enough to allow students to apply for a work permit while they are engaged in their studies.
  • Non-EU students are limited to 20 working hours per week, and must have a student residence permit as well as a contract of employment issued by their employer.

Iceland Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • If you’re planning on taking a job in Iceland, you need to get a work permit first.
  • The country has one of most impressive unemployment rates in Europe, as low as 2.5% in March 2018.
  • Iceland is also the most peaceful country in the world - a title it has held since 2008, according to the Global Peace Index 2017.
  • Before applying for the Iceland work visa, you must have found a job in Iceland and are able to submit a signed employment contract.
  • A confirmation must be presented from an insurance company licensed to operate in Iceland stating that the applicant has taken out (purchased) health insurance.
  • This insurance must be valid for six months and amounting to a minimum of ISK 2,000,000.
  • An applicant must submit a criminal record certificate applying to the last five (5) years before the application is made.
  • Applicants from certain countries must consent to undergo medical examination within two (2) weeks from the date of their arrival in Iceland as provided for by law and the instructions of the health authorities.
