Italy Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This is the type of visa issued to persons who intend to visit Italy for tourism purposes.
  • You can also visit family and friends while on this visa.
  • All visitors to Italy must carry a valid passport.
  • Applicants seeking this visa need to submit an invitation letter from a family member or host living in Italy.
  • This letter should clearly state the address and contact details of the host, as well as your relationship with them.
  •  During the visa application, you will need to provide proof of sufficient funds to last the duration of your stay.
  • The Italy tourist visa is valid for only 90 days.
  • You are advised to exit the country before your visa expires.
  • This visa does not serve study purposes. You cannot be enrolled in any of the institutions of learning in the country.

Italy Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This is the type of visa issued to Ghanaians traveling to Italy for business purposes.
  • You will need to provide an invitation letter from the Italy company you will be visiting.
  • This letter will also contain their detailed address, accompanied with the date and actual purpose of your trip.
  • If the intention is to attend a meeting or seminar, confirmation/invitation from the conference organizer/institution is required.
  • If you are employed, you will have to present a certificate from your employer stating or allowing your business travel.
  • Your bank statement from the last 6 months is needed.
  • Self-employed people will submit proof of business registration.
  • You cannot be gainfully employed while you are in the country with this visa.
  • It must be made clear whether your trip will be sponsored by the employer or the local company.

Italy Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • An international student who wants to pursue an educational course in Italy for more than 90 days will have to obtain a student visa.
  • The Italy student visa is a long-term visa granted to students who have already been accepted for admission by a recognized higher educational institute in Italy.
  • Student visas in Italy are issued by Italian Embassies and consular posts in a student's country of origin or permanent residence. 
  • All non-EU students are required to obtain a student visa prior entering Italy.
  • There are two types of student visas in Italy, depending on the duration of the study program.
  • Visa type C is the short-stay visa or travel visa valid for one or more entries and for a period not exceeding 90 days.
  • The Visa type D is a long-stay visa valid for more than 90 days.
  • Applicants are always advised to start these procedures well in advance of the intended date of entry as the visa processing time can be lengthy.
  • The procedures for student visas in Italy are subject to change, so it is worthwhile to contact the Italian Embassy for information to confirm current visa requirements.
  • Application forms for student visas in Italy must include a recent passport-size photo, a valid travel document and supporting documents depending on the type of visa the student is applying for.
  • Letter of acceptance from the university is required.
  • The insurance must be valid for all Schengen countries for a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000.

  • Citizens of full European (EFTA, EEA) Member Countries are able to live and work in Italy without a visa or work permit.
  • Non-EU nationals wishing to live and work in Italy must apply for a work permit or Italy Working Holiday Visa.
  • Work permits must be applied for by the employer.
  • While hiring of non-EU/EEA nationals is subject to a yearly quota system, highly-skilled professionals are generally exempt from this quota.
  • However, they are still required to follow the relevant application process to obtain a work permit and visa.
  • Applicants are advised to apply for a residence permit as early as possible, ideally as soon as they have the employee contract.
  • It might take a few months to process your application, so be conscious of which address receives your work permit.
