Basic Travel Requirements for Ghanaians visiting Lithuania

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Lithuanian Visa.

  • Fully completed and signed visa application form
  • Two recently taken photos. Both photos must be taken within the last three months and must follow all visa photo requirements.
  • A valid passport which is not older than 10 years. It should be valid for at least three more months beyond the date you plan to leave Lithuania.
  • A round trip reservation or itinerary. This must include dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Lithuania.
  • A travel insurance policy. A document that proves you have travel health insurance for the whole Schengen territory, with a minimum coverage of 30,000 euros in case of any medical emergency as illnesses, accidents and even repatriation in case of death.
  • Proof of accommodation. A document that shows where you will be accommodated throughout your stay in Lithuania.
  • Proof of financial means. Evidence that you have enough money to support yourself financially throughout your stay in the country. This can be one of the following:
      • Bank account statement – that shows you have enough money in your account for the trip. The statement shall be no older than 3 months.
      • Sponsorship Letter – by another person that confirms they will be financially supporting your trip to Lithuania. In order for this letter to be valid, it must be accompanied by a bank statement of the sponsor, no older than three months.
  • Proof of paid visa fee.  €60 for adults and €35 for children from 6 to 12 years old.

Lithuania Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • To visit Lithuania for tourism or spend some time with a family member or friend, you need a tourist visa.
  • First, the visa applicant must download and fill the visa application form completely and accurately.
  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least three (3) months after the end of your intended travel and that it has been issued no later than ten (10) years ago.
  • The best time to apply for your Lithuania visa is 1-2 months before your travel date.
  • Visa request cannot be processed without your original passport. The Lithuania visa is stamped on your passport and will become one of your passport pages.
  • The visa processing fee must be paid in cash upon application. Some embassies accept bank transfers.
  • Anybody planning to travel to Lithuania should do the following:
    • Download the visa application form (see what it looks like HERE)
    • Fill this form completely and with all sincerity. You can also fill the Lithuania Schengen Visa application form electronically and then print a hard-copy.
    • Attach 2 photos — the photo should be passport size, recent with whole face showing and taken in a white background.
    • Submit your passport and copies of your previous visas — valid for at least 3 months beyond return date. Your passport must have at least two blank pages.
    • Provide a copy of your return-ticket reservation. It is not recommended to purchase the ticket before obtaining the visa – if not otherwise required.
    • Secure an European travel medical insurance of a minimum of €30,000 which has coverage within Lithuania and the entire Schengen area.
    • Provide a cover letter stating the purpose of your visit to Lithuania
    • Confirm a flight reservation with dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Lithuania.
  • As a proof of accommodation while in the country, you will need to secure a hotel reservation for the whole duration of your intended stay in Lithuania.
  • You will need to provide proof of your civil status in the form of a marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, or ration card, if applicable.
  • To show you have the financial capacity to stay in Lithuania, you will have to provide proof of sufficient financial means for the period of your stay in Lithuania.
  • A foreign national who wants to enter the territory of the Republic of Lithuania, while applying for a Lithuanian Visa it needs to attest to the Lithuanian Embassy or Consulate possession of €40/day.
  • The processing fee for a Lithuania visa is $68.

Lithuania Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Ghanaians intending to travel to Lithuania for business will need to secure a business visa first.
  • Your travel insurance must be in force for the period of the validity of the applied visa and cover the entire Schengen area. The minimum coverage of the policy must be EUR 30,000 and the insurance must cover expenses arising from a sudden illness and accident (also the patient's repatriation) and repatriation expenses in case of death.
  • You will need to provide an invitation letter from the Lithuania company you will be visiting. This letter will also contain their detailed address, accompanied with the date and actual purpose of your trip.
  • If you are employed, you will have to present a certificate from your employer stating or allowing your business travel.
  • Your bank statement from the last 6 months is needed. Self-employed people will submit proof of business registration.
  • You cannot be gainfully employed while you are in the country with this visa. It must be made clear whether your trip will be sponsored by the employer or the local company.
  •  A confirmation of hotel reservation or any other means of accommodation should be submitted.
  • Usually, the inviting company will handle the cost of travel and stay in Lithuania for the applicant. It must be stated clearly if this is not the case.
  • If there were previous trade relations between the traveler and the company, proof of such must be provided.
  • Extending a Lithuania short-stay visa is only possible in exceptional cases where new facts and special reasons arise after entry in Lithuania.
  • Visa applicants must be ready to gather the following documents for their application:
    • Original valid passport for 6 months from the date of travel + old passport.
    • Visa application forms.
    • 2 photographs: 35x45mm, white background matt finish, 80% face size.
    • Covering letter (on company letterhead if self employed)
    • Hotel voucher
    • Return ticket.

    • Income tax papers for last 3 yrs or Form 16.

Lithuania Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • A foreigner who wants to stay and study in Lithuania will require either a student visa or a student residence permit.
  • The Lithuania student visa and the residence permit do not refer to the same document.
  • Lithuania student visa is a temporary short-term permit that is issued to a foreign student who wants to stay and study in Lithuania for a maximum of 90 days (3 months).
  • Lithuania student residence permit is issued to a foreign student to wants to stay and study in Lithuania for duration of more than 90 days (3 months).
  • As soon as you have been admitted by the University of Lithuania, you can download your letter of acceptance in Mobility Online and apply for your short-term residence permit in Lithuania.
  • The permit office at the University of Lithuania will contact you after your admission to help you with your short-term residence permit and Schengen visa.
  • Normally, Lithuania residence permits for students are granted for one year at a time.
  • A student visa is suitable for those foreign students who plan to take a short-term language course in Lithuania or want to appear in an entrance examination.
  • A student residence permit is suitable for those foreign students who have been accepted into a full-term degree course in Lithuania.
  • To be eligible for Lithuania Student Visa or Residence Permit, you must provide the official letter of acceptance issued by your hosting Lithuania university or educational institute or polytechnic.
  • You must provide proof of your financial ability so as to support yourself financially during your entire period of study in Lithuania and for your return transportation.
  • At present, a student must have at least EUR 600 per month for staying in Lithuania. This means the student must have a minimum of EUR 7,200 per year for their expenses in Lithuania.
  • Applicants are advised to make sure their passport is valid for at least three (3) months after the end of their intended travel and that it has been issued no later than ten (10) years ago.
  • The embassy or consulate you are using reserves the right to ask for additional documents or a second appearance for an interview in special cases.
  • Submission of the above-mentioned documents does not guarantee that a visa is granted.
  • Submission of incomplete documentation or refusal to appear for a special visa interview may result in the rejection of your application.

Lithuania Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • An foreigner who intends to work legally in Lithuania must obtain a work permit and a national visa D.
  • Usually, the first step is securing a job. Once that is done, the foreigner will then proceed with an application for a work permit and national visa D. 
  • Before submitting the documents for the issue of a work permit in Lithuania, the Labour Exchange of Lithuania must register a vacant position in the Lithuanian company.
  • The vacant position shall be registered no less than 5 working days before the submission of documents for the issue of a work permit in Lithuania.
  • During this period, citizens of Lithuania and permanent residents of Lithuania, meeting the employer's requirements, shall have the right to apply for the vacancy.
  • If, during this period, the employer – Lithuanian company cannot find a suitable candidate for the vacancy, the foreigner may then submit documents for the issue of a work permit in Lithuania.
  • The following basic requirements are set for a foreigner who intends to work in Lithuania:
    • You must have all the right qualifications for the job you are seeking to fill.
    • You must be ready to show documents proving your suitability for the post, e.g., educational certificates, practical training, diplomas, etc.
    • You must have at least 1 year of work experience within the last 2 years in an appropriate area and the supporting documents to prove this.
  • The place to submit documents for a work permit in Lithuania is the local labour exchange office.
  • In order to employ a foreigner under the employment contract, the following documents must be submitted to the Employment Service:
    • Completed application
    • Copy of your passport
    • Employer’s information on the foreigner’s qualification and at least one year of working experience according to their  qualification within the last two years.
  • The employer’s letter must contain the foreigner’s qualification, current and former workplaces where the foreigner has worked under their qualification during the last 2 years.
  • Details of work duration, titles and roles are also important.
  • The employer must make sure the foreigner has documents proving their qualifications (diplomas, certificates, etc.) 
  • Foreign documents must be legalized or certified with an Apostille in accordance with the established procedure, unless otherwise provided for by other legislation.
  • The translation into Lithuanian language of documents drawn up not in Lithuanian must be confirmed by a signature of translator. Copies of documents must be approved by signature and stamp of the head of the company.
  • Processing a Lithuanian work permit usually takes up to 7 working days while the national visa D could take up to 15 days.
  • Once a work permit has been issued, the foreigner can proceed with the submission of documents for the issue of a national visa D.
  • The place to submit documents for a national visa D  is a diplomatic mission or a consular post of Lithuania abroad.
