Basic Travel Requirements for Ghanaians visiting Taiwan

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Taiwanese Visa.

  • A Ghanaian passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
  • Duly completed and signed visa application form.
  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
  • Passport-size photographs (2 x 2” dimension) taken in white background.
  • Travel document.
  • Proof of financial support
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Copy of return flight ticket
  • Documentation showing applicant’s ties to home country, e.g. verification from applicant’s employer.
  • A police report showing the traveler does not have a criminal record.
  • Medical Insurance.

Tourism plays a major role in the Taiwan economy. Taiwan was home to about 10 million tourists who stayed in the country for an average of 6.63 nights in 2015. The number of tourists visits in the country has taken an upward trend ever since.

Taiwan Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • A visitor’s visa is required for tourist visits to Taiwan.
  • Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends travelers to Taiwan be vaccinated against Hepatitis A.
  • Travelers carrying cash of over 100,000 New Taiwan Dollars (TWD) will need to declare it.
  • The Taiwan tourist visa is usually valid for 90 days — could be single or multiple entry depending on what the embassy permits.
  • If you plan to stay longer than 90 days or you plan to work, you must let the embassy know. You may need a different kind of visa.
  • Taiwan lifted its ban on entry, stay, and residence of foreigners living with HIV on February 4, 2015.
  • Taiwan generally does not ask you about your HIV status unless you are applying for a resident, visa which requires a health certificate that will indicate whether you are HIV positive or not.
  • Please note that penalties for possession, use, sale, or transport of illegal drugs—including marijuana—are severe in Taiwan.
  • You will be lucky if you get off on a heavy fine and not bag a long jail sentence.
  • Even if marijuana is legal in your home country, Taiwan shows no leniency for medical or recreational marijuana.
  • Carrying or shipping marijuana into Taiwan is prosecuted as drug trafficking.
  • In summary, you will need to go to the embassy with the following documents:
    • A completed & signed visa application form
    • 2 passport-size photos taken within 6 months and in white background
    • Your valid Ghanaian Passport (original & photocopy)
    • Return ticket & travel itinerary
    • Proof of financial capacity (bank statement)
  • You will also need to submit an invitation letter from your host in Taiwan. The letter should include the inviter’s identity document such as Taiwan ID/passport/ARC.
  • The cost of this visa for Ghanaians is $150.
  • If all required documents are ready, the visa will be processed within 7 days.

Taiwan Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Ghanaians traveling to Taiwan for business must first secure a business visa.
  • Business visitors traveling to Taiwan may engage in the activities below:
    • Attend business meetings
    • Attend conferences or seminars
    • Tour a company facility
    • Buying goods for sale outside the country
  • The Taiwan business visa can be issued on single or multiple entry basis.
  • The duration of stay (each visit) for each visa class is normally 30-60 days based on the particular Taiwanese consulate.
  • Original and photocopy of business registration certificate and tax clearance or IRS are required during the visa application.
  • You are also required to provide an invitation letter issued by a registered Taiwanese company or organization (for example, a trade fair).
  • The Taiwanese Business Visa can be extended for up to 120 days.
  • It is illegal to work in Taiwan with the Business Visa. If you want to legally work in Taiwan, you will need a different kind of visa.
  • Taiwanese business visa fees are the same as that of tourist visas. The applicant’s nationality and number of entries make a difference.
  • If the intention is to attend a meeting or seminar, confirmation/invitation from the conference organizer/institution is required.
  • If you are employed, you will have to present a certificate from your employer stating or allowing your business travel.
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the costs of stay (e.g. bank statement for 2 recent months) is required.
  • Self-employed people may need to submit proof of business registration.
  • Marriage certificate will be required if applicant is married.
