Foreigners visiting Thailand with back-to-back visas are assumed to be doing illegal activities in Thailand and are likely to be questioned.
 
Citizens of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and South Korea do not require a visa to visit Thailand for stays of no more than 90 days. Citizens of Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States do not require a visa for stays up to 30 days.

Thailand Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The tourist visa is issued to people who wish to visit Thailand for tourism – not for business or any type of work.
  • Those who wish to visit friends and family members residing in Thailand will also be granted this visa.
  • There are two types of tourist visa: the single entry and the double entry tourist visa.
  • The single entry visa allows you to stay in Thailand for 60 days and it can then be extended in-country at any Immigration office at a cost of 1,900 baht.
  • The extension given is entirely up to the Immigration officer and can be anywhere from 7 to 30 days.
  • 30 days used to be the norm but these days extension may be given for just 7 days.
  • The double entry tourist visa is similar to the singe entry except that it allows you to reenter the country again after you have left, as long as your visa is still valid.
  • Upon re-entry, the visa holder will get another 60 days, which can only be extended once.

Thailand Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Foreigners applying for a job or opening a business will require a Thai business visa.
  • This visa can be best applied for before coming to Thailand.
  • In addition, this type of visa can be extended to a long-term visa which can be done either inside or outside the Kingdom of Thailand.
  • There are 2 categories for this visa, one for employment and the other for conducting business.
  • Both categories are classed under the Non-Immigrant B-Visa.
  • Foreigners who intend to work in Thailand should apply for an initial 90-Day Non-Immigrant B visa from their home country under employment category.
  • The work permit application takes place during the initial 90 days given through the initial visa.
  • Once a valid work permit is obtained, the applicant then applies for the 1-Year Non-Immigrant B visa inside Thailand.
  • 90-day reporting to any Thai Immigration Office is required to the visa holder under this category.
  • A re-entry permit is required if the applicant wishes to travel outside of the country.
  • Renewal of this visa can be done inside Thailand.

Thailand Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This type of visa is issued to applicants who wish to travel in transit across Thailand in order to proceed to the destination country of their choice or to re-enter their own country.
  • You don’t need to apply for a transit visa if you want to just pass through Thailand to another destination from the same port of entry.
  • You will however need a transit visa if you plan to stay in Thailand for a few days.
  • Those participating in sports activities (sportsmen/women, etc.) will also need a transit visa.
  • For those who are scheduled to stay in Thailand longer than one month, a non-immigrant visa category “O” can be issued.
  • A passport, travel document or certificate of identity with validity of not less than 6 months are required to apply for this visa.
  • Sportsmen and women are required to present a letter of invitation stating the actual sporting activities they are participating in.
  • Foreigners traveling to Thailand with this kind of visa will be permitted to stay in the country for a period not exceeding 30 days.
  • The consular officer reserve the rights to ask for additional documents if necessary, so it would be wise to be present yourself along with the complete set of documents.
