Indians traveling to Greece for leisure, sightseeing or visitation purposes can apply for the Greek tourist visa. Greece is a Schengen country so you can also apply for a Schengen visa. This visa is valid for 90 days. A passport issued within the previous ten years and valid for at least three months containing at least two blank visa pages must be provided. Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport ID page. Medical insurance of minimum coverage 30,000 Euros valid in all Schengen countries during the period of stay is required. Hotel reservations or rental of holiday home is required of the applicant. If the applicant intends to stay with a friend, proof of sponsorship or private accommodation from the host must be provided. An original bank statement showing movements in the last three months is required. A cover letter stating the purpose of visit to Greece is required. Applicants are required to provide proof of civil status (marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, ration card if applicable). Currency restriction for entry into and exit out of Greece is 10,000 euros. Applicants must show proof of sufficient funds and a return airline ticket or other evidence that they will depart Greece if asked. The sufficient funds requirement is often met with credit cards. Photographing military installations is prohibited and may lead to arrest. Mace or pepper-spray canisters are illegal in Greece. Such items will be confiscated, and police may arrest or detain you. Carry your passport or a means of identification at all times. Police may detain you for questioning if you do not have proper identification with you.

The Greek business visa is issued to Indians traveling to Greece for business purposes. Holders of this visa can negotiate and sign business contracts with their partners during business meetings. An invitation letter from the host company in Greece is required. The letter should be written in both Greek and English. The invitation letter should introduce the applicant and state the duration and purpose of the applicant’s visit. This visa allows Indians to attend and participate in trade fairs, conferences, and business seminars relating to their profession. Foreigners visiting the country to attend a conference should provide an invitation letter from the company or authorized body to attend events connected with trade. Applicants of this visa must provide evidence of a clean criminal record from the last three years. A letter from the applicant’s employer stating the applicant’s job position, salary level and length of employment should be provided. A Certificate of Business Incorporation of a company in Greece is required.

There are two types of Greek student visa: Type C student visa- this visa is issued to students looking to study for 90 days or less. Type D student visa- this visa is available for students looking to study for more than 90 days. An official acceptance letter of the institution where you will be studying must be provided. A medical certificate showing that you are clear of diseases is required. Criminal record from the National criminal record of your country is required. Proof of financial means for the duration of your stay is required. This should come in form of a bank statement. Proof of international health insurance with the minimum coverage of 30,000 euros for the entire duration of your stay is required. For your insurance plan to meet the Schengen visa health insurance requirements, it must include the following: The insurance company must have a representative office in Europe. Medical evacuation/ repatriation coverage of at least euro 30,000. Insurance must be valid for the duration of stay in the Schengen countries. A student visa is not a residence permit, students will need to apply for a residence permit differently.
