Basic Travel Requirements for Indians visiting Mexico

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Mexican Visa.

  • An Indian passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
  • Duly completed and signed visa application form.
  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
  • Three passport-size photographs (4.5 x 3.5 cm) taken in white background.
  • Travel document must be complete.
  • Proof of financial capability.
  • Proof of accommodation/hotel reservations.
  • Copy of return flight ticket.
  • Documentation showing applicant’s ties to home country.
  • A police report showing the traveler does not have a criminal record.
  • Medical insurance to cover entire duration of stay.
  • Documentation confirming the purpose of travel.

Facts about Mexico

Mexico is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. The country is known for its beaches, culture and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. There are a plethora of beaches in the country with the most popular being the resort town of Cancun. University students during their spring break make the resort their top destination during this period. Other beaches include the beach in Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas, Mazunte, etc. Activities to be carried out on the beaches in Mexico include surfing, snorkeling, cliff diving, and fishing.
 
Tourism in Mexico is the third-largest source of income for Mexico. The country is one of the most visited countries in the world and the second-most visited countries in the Americas. In 2017, the number of visitors in Mexico was close to 40 million which was up 12 percent from 2016. It has been estimated that the number is going to increase at a rate of about 4.2 million per year.
 
Foreigners visiting Mexico will not be allowed entry into or exit from Mexico with more than $10,000 or its equivalent in any currency. Punishment for drug-related crimes are very severe and those who are caught engaging in any of these offenses will be jailed for a long period of time.

Mexico Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Mexicans tourist visa is issued to Indians traveling to Mexico for tourism and visitation purposes.
  • This visa is valid for 180 days.
  • An invitation letter is required from the applicant traveling for tourism purposes.
  • Currency restriction for entry into and exit out of Mexico is 10,000 USD.
  • Proof of sufficient funds must be provided. This should come in form of a bank statement.
  • A letter specifying the purpose of the trip and the dates of entry and departure is required.
  • Proof of permanent residence in the country where the application is being made (India) is required.
  • If you are under the age of 18, the unabridged original copy of your birth certificate should be made available. Also, a letter of consent signed by both your parents is required if you will be traveling without your parents.
  • A document which shows that you have the incentive of returning to your country at the expiry of your visa should be submitted during the visa application process, e.g., proof of family ties or a stable job in the applicant's home country.
  • Travelers bringing in additional goods beyond their personal effects worth $75.00 or more must declare those goods with Mexican customs or risk having them confiscated.
  •  The Mexican government has declared the area around the Popocatepetl and the Colima volcanoes off limits.

Mexico Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Mexico business visa allows Indians visit Mexico for business purposes.
  • Indians on this visa can attend business meetings and conferences, sign and negotiate business contracts with partner companies while in the country.
  • Applicants of this visa who intend to attend business conferences in the country are advised to register for the conference before they leave India. The certificate of registration should be submitted with the other necessary documents required.
  • A letter of invitation written on the company’s letterhead should be provided. The letter should state the duration and purpose of your visit to Mexico.
  • A letter in Spanish from your company indicating that you are an employee and that the services you will provide in Mexico will be paid for by your company must be provided.
  • If the travel expenses of the applicant will not be covered by the company, this should be expressly stated in the letter.
  • The certificate of business registration of the inviting company in Mexico is required.
  • Proof that you are an Indian resident must be provided. Non-citizens should provide a copy of their stay permit.
  • Minors should ensure the original copy of their birth certificate is submitted with the other required documents. A letter of consent signed by both their parents is also required.

Mexico Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Indians traveling to Mexico for work purposes are required to apply for the Mexican work visa.
  • A signed letter of authorization from the Mexican Immigration Office with the NUT (Número Único de Trámite) number must be provided.
  • Applicants must provide a signed letter of job offer from company in Mexico.
  • Signed letter of registration of the company or employer (Constancia de Inscripción de Empleador) is also required.
  • Letter of Notification of Authorization of Visa received by the Mexican Company is required.
  • The following documents are to be provided by the employer:
    • Permit application form.
    • Copy of the Articles of Incorporation and amendments.
    • Proof of payment of quarterly taxes.
    • List of company employees and their nationalities.
    • Copy of the legal representatives’ identification.
    • Letters of support signed by the legal representative.
    • Notarized letter confirming the employee’s employment.
  • Applicants are required to provide a letter from their employer stating the agreed salary and their relevant technical ability (in some cases this must be accompanied by a photocopy of an official ID of the person who signed it).
  • Original and copy qualification certificates is required.
  • Original and copy of the last six month's pay slips/stubs must be provided by the applicant.
  • Applicants are required to provide a birth certificate and their resume.
  • Proof of payment of visa fees is required.
  • Once your work permit has been acquired, you are required to apply for a residence permit.
