Application requirements

Documents Indian applicants need to provide.

  • An Indian passport which is valid for at least three months after the intended date of exiting the country. The passport should have two blank pages at the time of application.
  • Duly completed and signed visa application form.
  • One colored passport sized photograph with the full face taken with a white background. The passport must not be older than six months.
  • Bank statement from the last three months prior to the period of visa application. This is proof of a sufficient and continuous flow of funds during your time in the country.
  • Valid travel insurance which has a coverage of €30,000 for medical insurance.
  • Proof of accommodation for the duration of your stay in Norway.
  • Copy of return flight ticket.
  • Proof of civil status.
  • Copy of travel itinerary.

Visa type details

Visitor Visa

  • Indians can apply for the Norwegian visitor visa if their intention is to travel to Norway for tourism, business and visitation purposes.
  • The visitor's visa allows you to stay in Norway or other Schengen countries for up to 90 days over a period of 180 days.
  • A copy of your return-ticket reservation is required.
  • A travel insurance confirmation of minimum 30,000 € coverage within Norway and the entire Schengen area must be provided.
  • A cover letter stating the purpose of visit to Norway and itinerary must be provided by the applicant.
  • Applicants should provide a flight itinerary with dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Norway.
  • Proof of accommodation for the whole duration of the intended stay in Norway is required.
  • Proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay in Norway must be provided.
  • The currency restriction for entry into and exit out of Norway is 25,000 Norwegian Kroner. This not include traveler's checks.
  • Indians traveling to Norway for business purposes can apply for this visa too.
  • The following documents are required If employed:
    • An invitation letter from the host company in Norway.
    • Current bank statement of the latest 6 months.
    • No-objection certificate from employer.
    • Income Tax Return (ITR) form or Certificate of Income Tax deducted at the source of salary
  • If self-employed:
    • A copy of your business license.
    • Company bank statement of the latest 6 months.
    • Income Tax Return (ITR).

Work visa

  • The Norwegian work visa is issued to Indians traveling to Norway for employment purposes.
  • If you apply for the work visa, you are eligible to a residence permit.
  • However, there are two types of work permit, 12-month and season work permit. A seasonal worker works for three months.
  • To obtain a work permit, you should be between the age range of 18- 30 years old.
  • Employer’s information on the foreigner’s qualification and at least one year of working experience according to their qualification within the last two years.
  • A letter must be provided from the former employer, stating job position , experiences and even past companies the applicant has worked in.
  • Before an Indian is offered this visa, your employer should ensure that there is no Norwegian willing and available to take up this job.
  • If, during this period, the employer – Norway company cannot find a suitable candidate for the vacancy, the foreigner may then submit documents for the issue of a work permit in Norway.
  • Here are some requirements needed to work in a Norwegian company;
    • You must have all the right qualifications for the job.
    • You must be ready to show documents proving your country status and competency, e.g., educational certificates, practical training, diplomas, birth certificates, marriage certificate etc.
    • You must have proof of work experience.
  • A medical record showing your physical and mental health must be provided.
  • Details of work duration, titles and roles are also important.
  • The employer must make sure the foreigner has documents proving their qualifications (diplomas, certificates, etc.).

Work visa

  • Indian students looking to study in Norway should apply for the Norwegian student visa.
  • Students staying in Norway for more than three months will have to apply for a residence permit.
  • The Norway student visa and the residence permit do not refer to the same document.
  • To be eligible for Norway Student Visa or Residence Permit, you must provide the official letter of acceptance issued by your hosting Norway university or educational institute or polytechnic.
  • You must provide proof of your financial ability so as to support yourself financially during your entire study period.
  • Evidence that you have sufficient financial funds for the entire period of study must be provided. You need to prove you have access to NOK 116,369 for 10 months (academic year).
  • Proof of accommodation must be provided.
  • A copy of your UDI document must be provided.
  • The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration requires the money to be deposited in a Norwegian bank account., this is a general rule.
