Application requirements

Documents Indonesian applicants need to provide.

  • An original Indonesian passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
  • A duly completed and signed visa application form.
  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the visa application form.
  • Passport-sized photographs (35 mm x 45 mm) taken in white background.
  • Travel document.
  • Proof of financial support.
  • Proof of accommodation.
  • Copy of return flight ticket.
  • Documentation showing applicant’s ties to Afghanistan e.g. verification from applicant’s employer.

Visa type details

Tourist visa

  • The Afghanistan tourist visa is issued to Indonesians traveling to the country for tourism or visitation purposes.
  • Applicants visiting family or friends are required to write a letter of introduction stating whom they intend to visit in Afghanistan.
  • A letter of invitation must also be provided by the applicant from their host.
  • Applicants visiting for tourism purposes must state in detail the nature of their tour and places they intend to travel in Afghanistan.
  • Applicants born in Afghanistan don't need a visa, just an entry permit.
  • A health clearance letter indicating that the person is not suffering from any contagious diseases will be required.
  • Polio vaccination up to 1 year before travel is recommended.
  • Currency restriction for entry into and exit out of Afghanistan is 20,000 USD or equivalent in Afghanistan currency.
  • Consent letter for minors under 16 is required.
  • Foreigners arriving in Afghanistan are fingerprinted during the immigration process. Foreign passengers arriving at the Kabul International Airport are expected to register with a representative of the Ministry of Interior’s Foreigners’ Registration Office.
  • The registration card must be returned upon the foreign national’s departure from Afghanistan.
  • Islam provides the foundation for Afghan customs, laws, and practices. Foreign visitors are expected to remain sensitive to the Islamic culture and not dress in a revealing or provocative manner, including the wearing of sleeveless shirts and blouses, halter-tops, and shorts.
  • Access to banking facilities in Afghanistan is limited and unreliable. The economy generally operates on a cash-only basis.

Business visa

  • An Afghanistan business visa is required by Indonesians who want to travel to Afghanistan for business purposes.
  • The business visa can be extendable and renewed.
  • There are five types of the Afghanistan business visa:
    • Three-month multiple visas: This visa is valid for three months and it costs US$40.
    • Six-month multiple visa: this visa is valid for six months and it costs US $80.
    • One-year multiple visa: this visa is valid for one year and it costs US $160.
    • Two-year multiple visa: this visa is valid for two years and it costs US$250.
    • Three-year multiple visa: this visa is valid for three years and it costs US$300.
  • An introduction or permission letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chamber of Commerce, or other related official bodies must be provided by the applicant.
  • The applicant must provide a reference number from the ministry of foreign affairs.
  • Travelers are required to provide their work permits and business license.
  • Business visa is available on arrival at Hamid Karzai International Airport.
  • The address of the company in Afghanistan must be provided.
  • Documents providing the type of commercial activities, payment of taxes and bank account numbers are required.
  • An invitation letter from the sponsor company in Afghanistan stating the applicant's business purposes and duration of stay must also be provided.
  • This visa can be extended but the extension application has to be done at least 7 days before your visa expires.
  • In the event that you overstay your visa without extending, you are required to get an exit visa from the Ministry of the Interior Affairs, after payment of fine for the number of days you overstayed.

Transit visa

  • Transit visa allows Indonesians to make short-stays in the country and join a connecting flight from Afghanistan to their destination country.
  • If the applicant is non-Indonesian, an original Indonesian stay permit will be requested.
  • You are not allowed to be in the country for more than 24 hours with this visa.
  • Applicants should ensure they have the visa and the confirmed flight ticket of their destination country.
  • You can neither visit friends and relatives with this visa nor tour the country with this visa.
  • If you are traveling with a minor, a letter of consent from the minor’s parents should be provided.
  • Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required.
