Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Romanian Visa.

The trend of tourist activities in the country shows that the number of tourists visiting the country has steadily been on the rise. In 2016, about 9.33 million tourists visited the country. In the first quarter of 2018, about 3.12 million tourists visited the country.

Citizens of countries that require a Romanian visa can gain entry into the country with a Schengen visa. Nationals of Andorra, Australia, Canada, Israel, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Seychelles, Singapore, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela can gain visa-free entry for a period of 90 days in a 180-day period.

Travelers should try as much as they can to change money only in recognized exchange shops and banks as it is illegal to change money on the streets. Foreigners are not allowed to enter or leave the country with more than €10,000 or its equivalent.

Romania Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The tourist visa is issued to Kenyans who are visiting Romania for tourism purposes.
  • Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your visit it must not expire sooner than your intended date of departure.
  • Two identical 30 mm x 40 mm passport-sized photographs with white background is required.
  • Travelers should provide evidence of booking with tour company or tour organizer.
  • No immunizations or unusual health precautions are necessary or required, but during the summer months mosquitoes are present in the Danube Delta and some low-lying regions. For your comfort take some mosquito repellent with you, if visiting Romania during the warm season.
  • The currency used in Romania is Romanian Lei. Though most of the prices of goods in Romania are displayed in Euros.
  • Travelers can only enter Romania with just 10,000 euros in cash. Any amount higher would have to be declared before entry.
  • Proof that the applicant is capable of financial support must be provided, The applicant is required to have at least EUR 30/day for the entire period of their stay on the territory of Romania.
  • The applicant is required to provide proof of accommodation.
  • You allowed to bring pets into the Romania, given that to apply the following rules:
    • Proof of rabid vaccination is required.
    • The health certificate must prove that your pet has had all its shots and is healthy enough to travel.
    • Microchips implantation record on your pet must be provided. If your pet doesn't already have a microchip you can easily get one.
  • This visa can be extended for 15 days after it has expired.

Romania Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Kenyans who intend to travel to Romania for economic or commercial purposes are the main applicants of this visa.
  • Holders of this visa can negotiate and sign business contracts during their time in the country.
  • You may train local employees or check the use and operation of goods acquired or sold under commercial and industrial co-operation contracts.
  • A flight reservation to the Romanian territory showing your entry and exit dates should be provided. It should also contain your PNR and full details as they appear on your international passport bio-data page.
  • A letter from your employer confirming your business leave is required. The letter should be written with the company’s letterhead and should have information which includes your position in the company and the duration of your business leave.
  • An invitation from the host company for participation in meetings, conferences, fairs, or congresses related to trade or industry stating that the company will cover the expenses must be provided. This letter must also receive the approval from the General Inspectorate for Immigration-Ministry of Internal Affairs (IGI-MAI), without this it is impossible for the applicant to do business with the host company.
  • The letter should also have the company’s address and state the duration, as well as the purpose of your visit.
  • You are required to possess a copy of the certificate of business registration and the bylaws of your partner company.
  • Proof that you made payment for the visa application is required.
  • Proof of previous business dealings between you and the company should be provided, if any.

Romania Non-business Visit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa can be issued to Kenyans who are administrators of a trading company.
  • Applicants of this visa must prove that they are not associates or shareholders of the trading company or of another Romanian legal entity. They should also not have exercised this function for the last 2 years.
  • Before this visa will be issued to applicant’s there must not be another foreigner in the trading company in Romania who holds this visa.
  • Foreigners who request this visa also do so for the purpose of undergoing unpaid professional training in an accredited professional training provider in an authorized public or private company.
  • Kenyans who apply for this visa may also register for volunteer programmes.
  • For this visa to be issued to volunteers, the volunteer must not be less than 13 years of age.
  • Foreigners who seek long-term medical attention in Romania are also eligible for this visa.
  • A letter of acceptance from the medical institution specifying the diagnosis and duration of the treatment should be presented.
  • The visa allows Kenyans to enter the territory of Romania to apply at the Ministry of Internal Affairs – General Inspectorate for Immigration, for the extension of the right of temporary stay and for a residence permit.
  • Underage children are required to have a letter of consent signed by both parents of the minor. The original copy of the minors’ birth certificate should be provided.

Romania Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Kenyans can make short stops in Romania with this visa.
  • Holders of this visa may transit through Romania for a period that is not more than 5 days.
  • A transit visa may be issued for one, two or multiple transits.
  • Applicants are required to have the flight ticket of their destination country.
  • The visa issued by the state of destination should be presented.
  • Holders of this visa are not permitted to work or study while they are in the country.
  • Receipt of payment of visa application fee is required.
  • Minors should ensure they have an unabridged original copy of their birth certificate.
  • An extension to this visa cannot be granted.

Romania Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa can be issued to foreigners who aim to be employed by an employer in Romania.
  • Kenyans traveling to Romania may seek employment as seasonal workers.
  • Skilled Kenyans employed by legal persons with registered office in Kenya may work in Romania in compliance with the Romanian laws.
  • The visa allows Kenyans to enter the territory of Romania to apply at the Ministry of Internal Affairs – General Inspectorate for Immigration, for the extension of the right of temporary stay and for a residence permit.
  • A letter confirming that you have been offered the job in Romania should be provided. The position you will be taking and the company’s address should be provided.
  • Employers are to provide proof that there was no Romanian willing and available to take up the job at the time the foreigner was employed.
  • Proof of financial means of support equal to the minimum gross salary guaranteed in payment for the entire period must be inscribed on your visa.
  • Foreigners who are to be paid below the minimum wage by their employer will not be issued this visa.
  • You are required to provide a proof of a clean criminal record.
  • You must abide by all the rules guiding your visa.

Romania Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The student visa is for foreigners who intend to travel to Romania either for pre-graduate, graduate, or postgraduate studies or in view of obtaining academic degrees within the state or accredited private institutions.
  • Foreigners who are trainees or who want to partake in the pupil exchange scheme or in an individual project may also apply for this visa.
  • Kenyans who want to carry out activities of scientific research on the grounds of the endorsement of the Ministry of Research and Innovation and the General Inspectorate for Immigration.
  • The visa allows Kenyans to enter the territory of Romania to apply at the Ministry of Internal Affairs – General Inspectorate for Immigration, for the extension of the right of temporary stay and for a residence permit.
  • Proof of acceptance for studies from the Romanian Ministry of Education, attesting that the visa applicant will attend a full-time course of study at a state or private higher education institution.
  • Applicant should present proof of tuition fee for at least one academic year.
  • Students should have at least  €500 per month
  • Students who have been previously convicted will not be issued this visa.
  • Proof of knowledge of the language of the study programme to be followed, with the exception of the preparatory year of Romanian language for foreign citizens.
  • If you are under the age of 18, a notarized letter of consent signed by both parents should be provided.

Romania Official Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is for diplomats visiting the country for official purposes.
  • Diplomats visiting the country aim to improve the relationship between the government of Kenya and Romania.
  • A diplomatic note from the Kenyan government is required. The note should contain your position in government, duration, and purpose of your visit to the country.

  • Applicants of this visa are Heads of State, Consular officers, ministers, and African Union representatives.
