Slovakia Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Slovakia tourist visa is for Kenyans visiting Slovakia for the purpose of recreation, relaxation and sightseeing.
  • Slovakia is part of the Schengen agreement, so a Schengen visa is needed to travel to the country.
  • The tourist visa is of two types:
    • Single entry visa - allows a single entry into Slovakia.
    • Multiple entry visa - permits multiple entries into the country.
  • Your passport and copies of your previous visas – valid for at least 3 months beyond return date – are needed.
  • The photograph used for the visa application must be passport-size (35 mm x 40 mm), recent and taken against a light background.
  • A confirmation of medical insurance covering a minimum of 30,000 euros within Slovakia and the entire Schengen area is needed.
  • Kenyans planning to visit their friends and relatives in Slovakia will also need a tourist visa. If you are going to be staying with your friend or relative, you are required to provide their address and identity.
  • If you are not visiting friends or relatives, you are required to provide a proof of accommodation. For example, a confirmed hotel reservation.
  • Travelers on a tourist visa cannot take up a course of study in one of the schools in Slovakia. A student visa is required to legally study in Slovakia.
  • Visa applicants that are employed are required to present the following documents during the application:
    • An employment contract
    • Current bank statement of the latest 6 months.
    • No-objection letter from employer.
    • Income Tax Return (ITR) form or Certificate of Income Tax deducted from the source of salary.
  • Married applicants will need to present a copy of their marriage certificate, or a spouse’s death certificate, if applicable.
  • Retired persons should possess a pension statement or documents showing other financial support from the last 6 months.
  • Here are some rules and customs to be followed in Slovakia:
    • Unruly or rowdy behavior  between 22:00 and 06:00 is illegal and could attract the attention of the police.
    • It is an offence to drink alcohol in public areas. Offenders can be slammed with fines of up to €33.
    • Taking photographs of anything that could be perceived as a military establishment or somehow security-related may result in problems with the authorities.

Slovakia Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Slovakian business visa is for Kenyans visiting Slovakia for business purposes.
  • A formal invitation letter from the Slovakian company you will be visiting is needed. This letter must include the company's detailed address and other means of contact, as well as the dates and true purpose of your visit.
  • Either the employer or the partner company must state who will be responsible for covering the applicant’s expenses during their stay in Slovakia.
  • Your travel insurance must be valid for the entire length of stay in Slovakia. The minimum coverage of the policy must be EUR 30,000, covering expenses arising from a sudden illness or accident or repatriation expenses in case of death in the country.
  • Business travelers cannot be gainfully employed while they are in the country with this visa.
  •  A confirmation of hotel reservation or any other means of accommodation should be submitted.
  • If there were previous trade relations between the traveler and the company, proof of such must be provided.
  • Working applicants may be required to provide salary slips from the last three months during the application.
  • Extending a Slovakian short-stay visa is only possible in exceptional cases where new facts and special reasons arise after entry in Slovakia.

Slovakia Medical Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is for Kenyans who want to be treated for one medical condition or the other in Slovakia.
  • Slovakia provides good quality healthcare so it is understandable why people would want to go there for treatment.
  • A letter signed within the last three months by the applicant’s doctor in Kenya providing information about the medical treatment sought by the patient is required. This letter should also state why Slovakia is the best place to receive treatment for the condition.
  • Medical insurance with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 is needed.
  • The receiving doctor in Slovakia is also required to provide a letter detailing the nature of the treatment, estimated recovery time, the cost of treatment and the need for return visits.
  • A letter from your employer stating allowance and awareness of your leave is required. The term of employment and granted leave days should be stated in the letter.
  • Proof of paid medical fees should be provided.
  • Retired applicants must provide pension statements of the last 6 months.
  • Minors must ensure they possess the original copy of their birth certificate. If they are traveling alone or with one of their parents, a document of consent which is signed by both parents of the minor should be provided.
  • Foreigners with a medical visa are not permitted to work in the country.
  • You are expected to leave the country at the end of your treatment.

Slovakia Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Slovakia student visa allows students from Kenya to study in one of the recognized educational institutions in Slovakia.
  • After securing a student visa, the student can then proceed to apply for a residence permit.
  • The Slovakian residence permit for students is usually granted for one year at a time after which it can be renewed.
  • Acceptance into the institution you have applied for should be confirmed before initiating the visa application process.
  • To be eligible for a Slovakian student visa or residence permit, you must provide the official letter of acceptance issued by the Slovakian university/educational institute offering the admission.
  • This letter should indicate the course the applicant has been admitted to study, the course duration, and how the student hopes to finance the study.
  • Foreign students in Slovakia may be allowed to work for a limited period of time as long as it does not interfere with their studies.
  • Students must have at least EUR 400 per month for staying in Slovakia. This means the student must have a minimum of EUR 4,800 per year for their expenses in Slovakia.
  • You must provide proof of your financial ability to support yourself financially during your entire period of study in Slovakia and also for your return transportation.
  • Children under the age of 18 years are required to have the original copy of their birth certificate. If they are traveling without their parents or one of their parents, a letter of consent signed by both their parents should be provided.
  • Submission of incomplete documentation or refusal to appear for a special visa interview may result in the rejection of your visa application.

Slovakia Official Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is for Kenyan government officials who are visiting Slovakia for diplomatic assignments.
  • A diplomatic note from the appropriate Kenyan ministry is required. The purpose of your journey and time of your meetings should be stated in the note.
  • The original copy of the invitation letter from the Slovakian government is required.
  • Applicants of this visa are heads of state, consular officers, ministers, and African Union representatives.
  • If the purpose of your visit to the country is non-official, you will not be issued this visa. Only Head of States is exempted from this requirement.
  • If you are traveling with a minor, ensure the original copy of the minor’s birth certificate is available. A copy of both parents’ passport should be made available.
  • Holders of this visa can attend conferences and meetings while they are in the country.
  • Diplomatic travelers are not allowed to take up a course of study or be paid for services they  render in the country.
  • A valid means of identification of the applicant is mandatory.
  • This visa can only be extended in very exceptional cases.

Slovakia Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The transit visa allows foreigners to make short stops in Slovakia.
  • Foreigners wishing to take a connecting flight from a Slovakian airport to their destination country will apply for this visa.
  • The visa or other types of entry permit of the destination country is required.
  • Flight ticket of your destination country should also be provided.
  • Minors are required to have the original copy of their birth certificate.
  • Previously convicted criminals may not be issued this visa.
  • Proof of paid visa application fee should be presented.
  • You are neither allowed to study nor take up paid or unpaid employment during your time in the country.
  • The transit visa is valid for 24 hours and an extension is not possible.
  • You are expected to leave the country before the expiry of your visa.
