Slovenia is a Balkan country with mostly mountainous terrain and mainly continental climate. It is a member of the European Union and NATO. It shares borders with Austria to the north, Italy to the west, Hungary to the northeast, and Croatia to the southeast. Slovenia controls some of the major transit routes in Europe despite its small size.

The Alpine country's major industries include car parts, pharmacy, electronics textile and furniture. With excellent infrastructure, a well-educated work-force, and a strategic location between central and Southeastern Europe, Slovenia's economy shows so much promise. The country's capital city Ljubljana was founded in Roman times and today, its university has over 50,000 students. 

One of the succeeding states of Former Yougoslavia, Slovenia became the first republic to split and became a sovereign state. As a member of the Schengen agreement, Slovenia can issue a Schengen visa.

Slovenia Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Slovenian tourist visa is for Kenyans visiting Slovenia for the purpose of recreation, relaxation, and sightseeing.
  • Slovakia is part of the Schengen agreement, so a Schengen visa is needed to travel to the country.
  • Researchers travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research are also eligible to the Slovenian tourist visa.
  • It is required for applicants to submit their original passport, which is valid for a minimum of 3 months after your return from the trip.
  • Two recent 35 mm x 45 mm passport-sized photographs are required, they must be taken in a gray background.
  •  You need to submit a Travel medical insurance with at least 30,000EUR coverage. This is one of the important Slovenia visa requirements and an assurance to the embassy that you have enough coverage to afford any medical emergencies that may arise during your stay in Slovenia.
  • A personal cover letter is required, in the letter you must state the following:
    • Dates of the journey.
    • Places you intend to visit.
    • Arrangements made for the accommodation and transportation.
  • The following documents are also required:
    • A no objection letter from your employer
    • If you can’t get an NOC, a leave approval from your office for the duration of your visit can be submitted.
    • Proof of civil status showing whether you’re married or not. Some of the documents you can provide are; your marriage certificate, ration card, your birth certificate, spouse’s death certificate, or your child’s birth certificate.
    • Flight itinerary is required.
    • The proof of your permanent address, such as your land deed, property lease agreement, electricity bill or water bill.
  • Credit cards are generally accepted in Slovenia.
  • Visa fee is free for children from age 0 to age 12.
  • Vaccination for tick-borne encephalitis is required.
  • Retired persons should possess a pension statement or documents showing other financial support from the last 6 months.

Slovenia Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Slovenian business visa allows business-oriented travelers to visit Slovenia to engage in business activities in the country.
  • The following documents are required for the Slovenian business visa:
    • An original passport with at least three months validity beyond intended stay.
    • A signed letter of invitation from the company in Slovenia which contains the applicant’s data, the purpose of the visit, the period of intended stay and contact details of the company.
    • A signed letter of invitation from your current employer with your personal data, the term of employment, and purpose of visit.
  • To stay longer than 90 days within a 180-day period, you must apply for a temporary residency prior to entering Slovenia.
  • Applicants must register with the police within three days of arrival. Failure to do so will result into a fine.
  • Applicants who intend to attend conferences which require prior business registration should ensure they have proof of registration and the receipt for the registration fee.
  • If you have been in prior business dealings with the company, a proof of this is required.
  • Certificate of business registration of the company in Slovenia should be provided.

Slovenia Medical Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Kenyans who apply for the medical visa do so with the intention of seeking medical treatment for a medical situation they have.
  • There are approximately 36 medical centers across the country, which provide a range of services, including outpatient care, GP services and a range of specialists.
  • A signed letter by the applicant’s local doctor within the last three months providing information about the medical treatment and confirming the need for the medical treatment to be done in Slovenia is required.
  • A letter from the doctor in Slovenia indicating the nature of the treatment, estimated recovery time, the need for return visits, the cost of treatment, and confirmation of acceptance from the doctor.
  • Ambulance transportation is free in the event of a medical emergency or if a doctor has confirmed that it is needed. 
  •  Applicants without insurance cannot access non-emergency free state healthcare.
  • Proof of travel insurance is required. You have to proof that you have access to funding to cover any medical treatment in Slovenia.
  • Patients can select a private physician of their choice but must cover all costs out-of-pocket.
  • You may need a personal licence to take controlled medicines to Slovenia.
  • Proof of paid medical fees should be provided.

Slovenia Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Slovenia student visa is also known as the type D visa. 
  • The student visa is for Kenyans looking to study in Slovenia.
  • There are two types of Slovenia student visa:
  • Short-stay visa- this visa lasts for just 90 days.
  • Long-stay visa- this visa lasts for 12 months, and it is also extendable.
  • If you are studying in Slovenia for more than three months, you are required to purchase a residence permit.
  • If you have a valid residence permit issued by another state that is party to the Schengen Agreement, you may enter the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of this permit
  • Proof of medical insurance which covers the entire duration of your stay with a minimum of 30,000 EUR coverage. But, you should first confirm that your school does not have arrangement for your insurance.
  • If your institution does not have any arrangement for your accommodation, you should reserve a hotel accommodation.
  • Students should have at least €300 monthly in order to maintain financial sustenance. 
  • You might be able to work with the Slovenia student visa but you should verify from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • The following documents are also required:
    • Two 35 mm x 45 mm passport size photos.
    • You will be asked to leave your fingerprints.
    • A valid passport and a copy of the first page. The passport must be valid for 3 additional months after the intended stay in Slovenia
    • A copy of the page in the passport where you have the stamp of entering in Slovenia.
    • Certificate of enrollment at the University. For example, acceptance letter.
    • Criminal record from your home country that confirms that you haven’t been convicted of a felony, translated into Slovene and certified.

Slovenia Official Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is for government officials who are visiting Slovenia to improve the relationship between the government of Slovenia and Kenya.
  • A diplomatic note from the Kenyan government is required. The purpose of your journey and time of your meetings should be stated in the note.
  • The original copy of the invitation letter from the Slovenian government is required.
  • Applicants of this visa are Heads of State, Consular officers, ministers, and African Union representatives.
  • If the purpose of your visit to the country is non-official, you will not be issued this visa. Only Head of States is exempted from this.
  • If you are traveling with a minor, ensure the original copy of the minor’s birth certificate is available. A copy of both parents’ passport should be made available.
  • Holders of this visa can attend conferences and meetings while you are in the country.
  • You are not allowed to take up a course of study or be paid for services you render in the country.
  • While in the country, diplomats cannot receive payment for the services they render.
  • Diplomats are required to present a valid means of identification.
  • This visa can only be extended in exceptional cases.

Slovenia Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The transit visa allows foreigners to make short stops in Slovenia.
  • Kenyans who intend to transit through Slovenia to their destination country may apply for this visa.
  • The visa of the destination country should be presented during the visa application process.
  • Applicants should have the flight ticket of their destination country.
  • Minors are required to have the original copy of their birth certificate.
  • If you have prior convictions, your application may be refused.
  • Proof of paid visa application fee should be presented.
  • Foreigners cannot study or work while they are in the country
  • The transit visa is valid for 24 hours.
  • There is no extension to this visa.
  • Before the expiry of your visa, you are expected to leave the country.
