Application requirements

Documents Malawian applicants need to provide.

  • Completed and signed the Canadian Visa application form.
  • An original and copy of the Malawi passport.
  • The passport will need to be valid for at least six months beyond your date of return and have at least two blank pages.
  • Two coloured photographs that are recently taken within the last three months on a white background is required.
  • Proof of visa application processing fee is required.
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the duration of the trip such as three months bank statements, payslips and proof of investments.
  • If you are not paying for the trip you will need a letter from the person or institution sponsoring your trip and additional documents such as a copy of their passport and a bank statement proving they have sufficient funds.
  • Proof of ties to Malawi such as employment letter, proof of businesses or assets.
  • Copy of provisional flight booking and travel itinerary (i.e. accommodation reservations).
  • You may need to provide a medical history or proof of good health.
  • Previous passports showing travel history.
  • Minors (under 18) travelling alone will need a letter of authorization signed by both parents or legal guardians.
  • For minors travelling with one parent, a letter of authorization from the non-accompanying parent or legal guardian is required.

Tourist visa

  • A tourist visa is issued to foreigners travelling to Canada for tourism purposes such as recreation, relaxation or holidays.
  • Canada Tourist Visa Application Form completely filled and signed by the applicant.
  • Bank or other financial statements to prove you have enough funds for the trip to Canada.
  • A travel itinerary if you have already booked air tickets or just a description of what you plan to do once in Canada.
  • A Canada visa letter of invitation from the applicant’s family or friends if the applicant is visiting them.
  • Proof of the relationship if you are visiting your family.
  • The immigration statuses of your family or friends by submitting a copy of their Canadian residence permit.
  • Bank statements or other financial statements of your friends or family in Canada.
  • A Declaration Letter from you to the Government of Canada where you explain why they should give you a Tourist visa.
  • Proof that your stay in Canada is temporary and that you will return to your home country once your visit is over, such as a lease, and property deed.
  • Proof that you do not plan to work or study in Canada.
  • Court documents that prove you have a clean criminal history.
  • All the documents that you have that are in another language other than English or French should be translated.

Student visa

  • A Canada Student Visa allows applicants to start their studies in Canada.
  • Valid acceptance letter from Canadian Learning Institution explaining the program and degree applicant will obtain, amount of tuition fee applicant must pay and the finishing dates of the program are required.
  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old to apply as a student visa applicant.
  • Parents of the applicant under 18 years must apply on their behalf.
  • The applicant must have a clean criminal history and submit court documents to prove it.
  • Prove that stay in Canada is temporary and that applicant will return to the home country once the studies are over is required by providing return travel tickets.
  • Letters from the court and police in Malawi to prove that the applicant has a clean criminal record.
  • Medical examination results showing that the applicant has no contagious disease.
  • Education status through a resume or diplomas.
  • Proof of sufficient funds showing that applicant can cover the expenses of studying in Canada (tuition and living costs) by providing bank statements of the 6 months, the letter from a person or institution giving you money or proof scholarship.
  • The applicant must submit a letter of explanation explaining the purpose of study in Canada and guaranteeing acceptance responsibilities as a student in Canada.
  • Minors going to Canada to study needs a custodian that is not a parent of the minor, and submit a Custodian Declaration Form which states who the custodian of the child is.
  • The Declaration form must be signed by the parents or legal guardians of the child.
  • All the documents must be translated into English or French.
  • The applicant must have enough funds to cover tuition fees and living costs of CAD$10,000.
  • The applicant can apply for a visa extension for an additional 90 days if the program is yet to be completed before the expiration of the visa. A visa extension can only be done once.
  • Applicant must provide proof that the program has been completed by submitting the notification of graduation from schools such as an email, a letter, a copy of degree, diploma, or certificate.

Business visa

  • A Canadian business visa is issued to foreigners travelling for business purposes such as signing business contracts, engaging in trade fairs and attending business meetings or conferences.
  • Applicants are required to submit receipt showing proof of paid Canada visa fees.
  • Proof of financial means by submitting bank statements for the last 6 months.
  • Proof you will return to your home country once the Canadian visa expires.
  • Applicants are required to provide valid identity card and Malawi residence permit if the applicant is not a citizen of Malawi.
  • Applicants are required to provide a copy of a valid medical exam result showing that the applicant has no illness or disease that is contagious.
  • A copy of the confirmed travel itinerary is required.
  • An invitation letter from the company you are visiting from the Company, workshop, conference, or trade show organizers in Canada is required.
  • The invitation letter must clearly state the nature of the business to be carried out in Canada.
  • Registration documents of the company you work for.
  • A letter from your employer stating your job title, salary, and reason why you are visiting Canada.
  • Registration documents from the Canadian company which has invited you to Canada.
  • A Declaration Letter from you to the Government of Canada where you explain why they should give you a visa.
  • All documents must be in English or in French and if they have been translated, you must provide a certification that the translation is correct.
