Application requirements

Documents Malawian applicants need to provide.

  • A valid passport with at least 3 month's validity before the return date is required.
  • The passport should have at least two blank pages.
  • France visa application form that is completely filled and signed is required.
  • 2 recent passport photos displaying whole-face captured with a light background.
  • A copy of your return-ticket reservation. It is not recommended to purchase the ticket before obtaining the visa.
  • Travel visa insurance with a confirmation of a minimum of 30,000 € coverage within France for the whole duration of stay is required.
  • A cover letter stating the purpose of a visit to France and itinerary is required.
  • Flight ticket reservations.
  • Proof of accommodation for the entire stay in France.
  • Proof of civil status (marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, ration card if applicable).
  • Proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay.
  • A copy of the return ticket.

Visa type details

Tourist visa

  • The tourist visa is issued to foreigners traveling to France for tourism purposes such as recreation, relaxation, and sightseeing.
  • Correctly filled and signed French tourist Visa Application Form.
  • Two passport-sized photos, not older than three months, taken against a white background is required.
  • Valid Malawi passport issued within the last 10 years and valid for a minimum of 3 months beyond the required stay in France.
  • The passport must have at least two blank pages for visa affixation.
  • Photocopies of previous visa and passports, if available, is required.
  • Certificate of a criminal record of Malawi showing that the applicant has no criminal record in Malawi.
  • Travel Itinerary that shows details of applicant's activities in France, dates of arrival and departure from France.
  • Proof of Accommodation in France, either from a hotel, or a letter of invitation if you are planning to stay over at friends or relatives.
  • Bank statement showing proof of sufficient funds for the whole duration of stay in France
  • Receipt of paid visa application fee is required.
  • You are not allowed to work or study during your stay in the country.
  • An invitation letter from the host, be it a family member, a friend or a tour organization in France is required.
  • The letter should indicate the purpose of the trip, duration of visit and relationship between the applicant and the host.
  • The invitation letter from the tour organization must indicate that the applicant has completed all tourist registration and paid the required tour fee.
  • It must also be clearly stated if the host will be financially responsible for the applicant throughout the duration of stay in France.

Business visa

  • The business visa is granted to foreigners visiting France for strictly business purposes.
  • An invitation letter from the French Company you will be visiting and their detailed address accompanied with the dates of your visit.
  • The letter must clearly state the type of business to be conducted in France.
  • A certificate or cover letter from your employer stating/allowing your business travel.
  • If there were previous trade relations between the two companies, proof of such events must be provided.
  • Receipt of paid visa application fee is required.
  • You are required to provide the original copies of all documents with clear double-sided photocopies at the embassy. You should not staple the documents together.
  • If you are self-employed, you should submit proof of business certification such as the Business License and the company's certified bank account statements for the last three months.
  • A business bank statement of the latest 6 months is required.
  • Memorandum and Article of Association in original certified copy (registered with joint-stock companies) Trade License (first issued and present renewal), Proprietorship/Partnership documents is required.
  • Regarding the applicant’s expenses during stay in France, either the employer or the partner company must state coverage of expenses on the letter or invitation.
