Application requirements
Documents Malawian applicants need to provide.
- A completely filled and signed Spanish visa application form.
- The applicant can also fill the Spanish Visa application form electronically and then print a hard-copy.
- 2 photos must be attached; the photo should be of passport format – a recent whole-face capture with a light background.
- Malawi passport valid for at least 3 months beyond return date and copies of previous visas is required.
- The passport must have at least two blank pages for the visa stamp.
- A copy of your return-ticket reservation. It is not recommended to purchase the ticket before obtaining the visa, if not otherwise required
- Spain's travel insurance confirmation of a minimum of €30,000 coverage within Spain.
- A cover letter stating the purpose of visit to Spain and itinerary.
- Flight reservation with dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Spain.
- Hotel booking reservations for the whole duration of the intended stay in Spain.
- Proof of civil status (marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, ration card if applicable).
- Proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay in Spain.

Tourist visa
- Spain visa application form should be correctly filled with all the required information and signed by the applicant.
- Two identical photos taken within the last three months and must show the full face of the applicant.
- Valid Malawi passport which has at least two blank pages and a validity of three more months from the date of arrival to Spain is required.
- Passports older than ten years or extended passports will not be accepted.
- Letter of invitation by the relative or friend residing in Spain, attached with a copy of their passport.
- In case that the friend or relative is not a citizen of Spain, a copy of the residency permit will also be required.
- Round trip reservations should include the dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Spain.
- A confirmation letter from the applicant’s health insurance stating coverage for emergency medical treatment with a minimum of €30,000, including repatriation in case of death.
- Travel Itinerary showing a detailed description of the trip, the purpose of travelling, the duration of stay the applicant will be spending in Spain.
- Means of Subsistence showing that the applicant has enough money to financially support the during the stay in Spain.
- Applicants are required to provide proof of accommodation.
- This could be the house/flat of the applicant’s family member, relative or friend who is inviting the applicant or hotel/hostel booking with the name of the place, its complete address and other contact details as phone and e-mail. It should also include the dates the applicant will be staying there.
- A minor travelling alone shall provide an original birth certificate and notarized letter by both parents / legal guardians, plus copies of parent's passports or ID.
Business visa
- Visa application form that is fully completed and signed.
- Two recently taken photos must be attached to the application form and must be taken within the last three months.
- A valid passport should valid for at least three more months beyond the date the applicant plan to leave Spain.
- The applicant travel itinerary must include dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Spain.
- Valid medical insurance that proves the applicant has travel health insurance for the whole of stay in Spain, in case of any medical emergency as illnesses, accidents and even repatriation in case of death.
- Proof of accommodation that shows where they will be accommodated throughout the required stay in Spain.
- This could be a hotel booking, a rental agreement, or a letter of invitation from a host at whose house the applicant will be staying.
- Bank account statement that shows you have enough money in the applicant’s account for the trip. The statement shall be no older than 3 months.
- Applicants are required to provide proof the visa application has been paid.
- Letter from the employer in Malawi giving full details describing the profile of the applicant’s working place, the purpose of the travel, as well as the itinerary of the days, spend within Spain.
- An invitation letter written by the partner company in Spain faxed also to the corresponding consulate.
- This letter has to appear as an invitation to attend meetings or other relevant events matching trade, industry or work.
- It must be stated either in the employer’s letter or the partner company’s invitation that one of both parties will be covering the applicant’s travel expenses during the required stay in Spain.
- If there were previous trade relations between the two companies proof of such an event.
- For the self-employed, a copy of the applicant’s business license, company bank statement of the latest 6 months, and Income Tax Return (ITR) is required.
