Application requirements
Documents Malawian applicants need to provide.
- A Malawi passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date.
- The passport must have 2 blank pages for the visa stamp.
- Duly completed and signed the UK visa application form.
- A parent or legal guardian has to sign the form if the applicant is a minor.
- Three passport-size photographs (4.5 x 3.5 cm) taken on a white background.
- The travel document must be completely provided.
- Proof of financial capability or sufficient funds for the whole duration of stay.
- Proof of accommodation/confirmed hotel reservations is required.
- Copy of return flight ticket showing that the applicant has intentions of going back to Malawi.
- Documentation showing the applicant’s ties to Malawi.
- A criminal report showing the applicant has not been engaged in any criminal activity in Malawi.
- The criminal report must be issued and signed by the local police departments in Malawi.
- Medical insurance that covers the whole duration of stay in Malawi is required.
- Documentation confirming the purpose of travel is required.
- Copy of travel itinerary showing travel details, dates of entry and exit from Malawi.
- Applicants are to provide proof of the paid visa application fee.
Visa type details
Tourist visa
- A tourist visa is issued to foreigners visiting the UK for the purpose of leisure and tourism such as sightseeing, recreation, and relaxation.
- The applicant who have been invited to the UK by their friend or relative with permanent residence can apply for the tourist visa.
- An applicant under the age of 18 years must provide the original copy of the birth certificate and a notarized consent signed by both the parents should be provided.
- Applicants are not allowed to take up paid or unpaid employment while they are in the UK.
- Receipt of the non-refundable visa application fee is required.
- Non-Malawi applying for the visa should provide a copy of their Malawi residence permit. This permit should be valid for at least three months from the intended period of exiting the country.
- A letter of invitation from the host in the UK should be provided. The letter should contain the valid home address and telephone number of the host.
- The host in the UK could either be a family member, friend or tour organization in the UK.
- Applicants are to provide a certificate of medical insurance that covers the duration of stay.
- Air ticket reservations, including return flight, should be submitted by the applicant.
- Foreigners should have proof of the incentive of returning to their country at the expiry of their visas.
- Proof of hotel reservation and accommodation that covers the applicant's duration of stay.
- Receipt of paid visa application fee payment should be submitted by applicants.
Business visa
- The business visa is issued to foreigners who intend to engage in business activities such as negotiating and signing business contracts, attending conferences, trade fairs, and business summits in the UK.
- A letter of invitation from the host company/organization in the UK should be presented during the visa application process.
- The letter should have the company’s address, the purpose, and duration of your visit.
- A letter from the applicant’s employer stating awareness of the business visit to the UK should be provided.
- The letter should provide information which includes the position of the applicant held in the company, how long the applicant has been employed, the purpose of the visit, as well as, the duration of the stay in the UK.
- A certificate of business registration of the host company in the UK is required.
- If the responsibility of the applicant’s expenses in the UK will be taken up by the employer in Malawi or the partner company in the UK, it should be stated in the letter provided.
- Proof of any previous business dealings between you and the company you are meeting with should be provided if any.
- Holders of the business visa are not allowed to be paid for the services they render in the country.
- Applicants in the country with this visa are not allowed to study.
- Non-Malawi is required to provide a copy of their Malawi stay permit.
- Receipt showing the visa application fee has been fully paid.
