Application requirements
Documents Malaysian applicants need to provide.
- A completed and signed visa application form.
- An original Malaysian passport with a validity of 6 months from the time of exit from the country and should have two blank pages for stamps.
- Two identical passport-sized photographs(35mm x 45mm) and should be taken with a white background.
- Proof of sufficient funds for the duration of stay in the country should be provided.
- A copy of the travel itinerary showing details of your trip.
- Valid travel insurance.
- Proof of accommodation: either confirmation of paid hotel accommodation or home address of your host in the country.
- Return ticket to Malaysia.
Visa type details
Tourist visa
- The Afghanistan tourist visa is issued to Malaysians who are visiting Afghanistan for tourism and visitation purposes.
- The Afghanistan tourist visas are usually single-entry, valid for three months, with a one month authorized stay. The visa cannot be renewed.
- Applicants are required to provide proof of yellow fever vaccination is required.
- Polio vaccination up to 1 year before travel is recommended.
- Applicants visiting family or friends are required to write a letter of introduction stating whom they intend to visit in Afghanistan.
- A letter of invitation must also be provided by the applicant.
- Applicants visiting for tourism purposes must state in detail the nature of their tour and places they intend to travel in Afghanistan.
- Applicants born in Afghanistan don't need a visa, just an entry permit.
- A health clearance letter indicating that the person is not suffering from any contagious diseases will be required.
- Currency restriction for entry into and exit out of Afghanistan is 20,000 USD or equivalent in Afghanistan currency.
- Consent letter for minors under 16 is required.
- Foreigners arriving in Afghanistan are fingerprinted during the immigration process. Foreign passengers arriving at the Kabul International Airport are expected to register with a representative of the Ministry of Interior’s Foreigners’ Registration Office.
- The registration card must be returned upon the foreign national’s departure from Afghanistan.
- A proof of incentive to return to your home country is necessary. This may be a return ticket to Malaysia or proof of family ties.

- The Afghanistan business visa is issued to Malaysians whose sole purpose is to carry out short-term business activities in the country.
- With this visa, you can attend business meetings, negotiate and sign contracts, attend conferences and trade fairs.
- This visa is valid for 90 days to 3 years.
- An invitation letter stating the duration and purpose of your visit should be provided by the company you have business dealings within Afghanistan.
- The certificate of business registration of the company should be presented as well.
- A letter from your employer in Malaysia is needed. The letter should state that he/she is aware of your leave.
- An unabridged copy of birth certificate is required for applicants under the age of 18.
- A receipt of paid visa application fees is required.
- Applicants are expected to submit a medical report from their local physician affirming that they are in good health.
- Applicants are not expected to be paid for services they render in the country.
Transit visa
- Transit visa allows foreigners to make short-stays in the country and join a connecting flight from Afghanistan to their destination country.
- You are not allowed to be in the country for more than 24 hours with this visa.
- Applicants should ensure they have the visa and the confirmed flight ticket of their destination country.
- You can neither visit friends and relatives with this visa nor tour the country with this visa.
- If you are traveling with a minor, a letter of consent from the minor’s parents should be provided.
- A proof of yellow fever vaccination is required.
- For non-Malaysians, a Malaysian stay permit will be requested.
