Basic Travel Requirements for Mauritians visiting Libya

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Libyan Visa.

  • Visitors who wish to travel to Libya are required to obtain their visas from Libyan Diplomatic  Mission unless they are from countries exempted from using a visa to gain entry. 
  • Visitors are expected to convert their currencies to US $1000, or an equivalent, whether in a freely convertible cash or to debit the amount from a valid card. 
  •  A copy of an invitation letter showing  proof of covering the visitor’s expenses during the duration of his/her stay.
  • Entry and transit is refused to Israeli citizens
  • Entry is also denied to citizens of Bangladesh, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Pakistan. 
  • Applicant is required to provide his travel documents
  • An evidence showing proof of visit to Israel. 
  • A copy of letter issued by the Libyan Diplomatic Immigration authorities. 
  • Proof of the host’s accommodation
  • A fully completed Libya Visa application.. 
  • A proof of financial support .
  • A copy of travel itinerary 
  • Four passports on a white or off-white background (60mm x35mm) would be required

Libya Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The tourist visa is required from Mauritians visiting for touristic reasons. 
  • You are required to submit two copies of a fully completed Libya Visa application. 
  •  You are expected to have two  recent photo passports while applying for a Libya visa. 
  • As a tourist going to Mauritius for a temporary visit, you are expected to submit a scanned copy of your passport’s bio page.  
  • A  list detailing the number of  places which you intend to visit during the duration of your stay in Mauritius would be required. 
  • A proof of your current profession would be expected to be included with other documents while applying for a Libya Visa. 
  • Your passport’s validity should be at least six months even till when you leave Libya. 
  • Your passport shouldn’t have an Israeli stamp ( passports with Israeli stamps are denied entry). 
  • One of the required document  includes a copy of at least two blank pages. 
  • You will have to apply for a visa approval at the Immigration department, which usually takes about 48 hours. The approval is known as visa number reference. 
  • With the Visa approval, you can obtain the actual visa stamp when you send a copy of the visa approval to the embassy. 
  • You are to submit an evidence of a vaccination to indicate you are yellow fever free. 
  • Non-USA citizens  are expected to provide a copy of their green cards. 

Libya Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Transit Visa is granted to travelers seeking to cross Libya border to border along the coast .
  • You are allowed to use a transit visa for tourism purposes, it’s same way one is not allowed to work without  a work permit. 
  • The transit visa only allows you to camp wherever is suitably safe, or visit along the coast. 
  • You will have to send in your documents 10 days before your entry or transit to Libya. 
  • As a traveler, you must have a transit visa approval from the immigration department before your visa transit application is valid. 
  • A document showing your date of arrival  and departure to Libya is required. 
  • A scanned copy of your passport’s bio page  is also required. 
  • The validity of your passport should be at least six months for when you intend to leave Libya. 
  • The transit visa approval is only valid for about 30 days, you are allowed to enter any day within this month. 
  • Passports with Israeli stamps are denied entry upon arrival.  

Libya Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The business visa is granted  to Mauritians traveling to Libya for business reasons. 
  • The business visa is divided into two forms; the single entry and multiple entry. 
  • The single entry visa allows holders to enter only once. The business visa approval needed ton obtain the stamp on arrival on a single entry visa is valid for 30 days. 
  • The multiple entry visa allows the holder  to enter Libya for as many times as possible within the validity period of the visa.
  • The multiple entry visa is sub-divided into two; one of the visa is valid for three months, while the other visa type is valid for six months. 
  • For a Single entry visa, you are required to provide a scanned copy of your passport’s bio page, documents showing your profession, estimated arrival date, and visa payment.
  • For a Multiple Entry Visa, you are required to provide a scanned copy of your passport’s bio page, documents showing your profession, estimated arrival date, and visa payment. And also a copy of residence if you are not a national of the country you reside in. 
  • If you are obtaining a Libya Business visa, two photo photographs will be requested. 
  • Other documents include a stamp free visa, a bank statement, and a travel insurance. 
  • The multiple entry visa takes 14 days but sometimes can take longer. 
  • The single entry visa cannot be extended to three to six months once you are in Libya. You will have to exit the Libya, to apply for a second visa. 

Libya Journalist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • To be granted a Journalist visa, one has be a journalist visiting Libya on a mission on capturing news or filming sites on behalf of a foreign organisation. 
  • While applying for a Libya journalist visa, the embassy will require an approval from FMD in Tripoli. 
  • When the FMD approves, the “approval” is sent to the embassy with a custom clearance to clear the equipment to brought into the country.  
  • You will need to go to the embassy with the list of the equipment cleared and will be brought into Libya. 
  • After the embassy issues an approval you can now obtain a Visa stamp that will guarantee your entry.
  • Upon your arrival to Libya, the FMD(Foreign Media Department) will issue you a permission to allow film the number of sites you have listed, and also an ID which you are to carry around during the duration of your stay. 
  • The journalist visa is more guaranteed  for smaller groups of journalists (two to three journalists) than larger groups. 
  • Your application visa form is one of the necessary documents to be requested. 
  • A letter from your employer authorizing you to cover news in Libya will need to be provided. 
  • Other documents include: 
    • Scanned copy of your passport's bio data page (the page with your photo).
    • Your profession.
    • Estimated date of arrival.
    • Payment.Visa Fee (cash only)Paid in advance.
    • A valid Passport.
    • Two recent passport photos.
    • Visa reference number (from Libya).
  • The journalist visa is valid only for three months.  But can be renewed regardless of number of entries. 
  • A document to identify a journalist will be required e.g a birth certificate providing as a proof of identity.  

Libya Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Libyan Work Visa is granted to foreigners who intend to work in Libya. Working in Libya without a Visa is illegal. 
  • A Libyan Company has the right to bring in 20 foreign workers to Libya, only when the company has a contract to run a larger project can it bring in more workers.
  • If you want to apply for a work visa, you should have gotten a job offer from a company in Libya.
  • The company that employed has to initiate the application by requesting a work visa approval from the work department on your behalf. 
  • A invitation letter  from your intended work place will be required. 
  • Your passport has to be at least six months valid even till when you have left Libya. 
  • You are expected to provide a proof of your visa fees to be able to obtain visa stamps upon arrival. 
  • A temporary residence visa will have to be organised by the company that employed you. 
  • The initial work visa  is valid for a duration of three months, but can be extended further  during the duration of your stay in Libya.
