Application requirements

Documents Burmese applicants need to provide.

  • A Myanmar passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
  • Duly completed and signed visa application form.
  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
  • Passport-size photographs (36 mm x 45 mm) taken in grey background.
  • Travel document.
  • Proof of financial support.
  • Proof of accommodation.
  • Copy of return flight ticket.
  • Medical travel insurance with coverage of at least 30,000 Euros.
  • Documentation showing applicant’s ties to home country, e.g. verification from applicant’s employer.
  • Documentation confirming the purpose of travel.
  • Copy of travel itinerary.

Visa type details

Tourist visa

  • The German tourist visa is available to Myanmars traveling to Germany for tourism and visitation purposes.
  • Germany is a Schengen country, visitors can apply for a Schengen visa.
  • Currency restriction for entry into and exit out of Germany is €10,000 euros.
  • An application form completed in English or German must be provided. The form should be fully, honestly and correctly completed, printed and signed at the end.
  • Declaration of Accuracy of Information must be provided by the applicant.
  • Applicants are required to provide personal bank statements for the last three months.
  • A Schengen travel insurance must be provided. You should submit a confirmation letter from your health insurance stating coverage for emergency medical treatment with a minimum of €30,000.
  • Proof of financial means must be provided. This could be come in form of the following:
    • A bank statement not older than three months.
    • A letter of sponsorship from another person – Declaration of Commitment “Verpflichtungserklärungen”.
  • You must provide a leave letter of your company (if employed).
  • A no-objection certificate must also be provided by the applicant.
    • If you are a student, your school or university should issue this certificate to you.
    • If you are an employee, your employer or the company where you work at should issue this letter to you.
    • If you are not a student and you do not work either, this certificate is not required.
  • Applicants are required to provide a cover letter. This personal cover letter should explain the reason why you wish to visit Germany, how long you intend to remain there, and what you will be doing there.
  • A letter of invitation from the person the applicant is visiting in Germany must be provided. The invitation letter should also include the address, period of stay and contact details of the host.

Business visa

  • The German visa is issued to Myanmars traveling to Germany for business purposes.
  • Those who are visiting Germany for the purpose of attending courses, training, and cultural events are also eligible for this visa.
  • This visa is valid for 90 days and cannot be extended.
  • Your application will only be accepted when you have all the necessary documents required by the embassy.
  • A letter of invitation from the German company the intending business traveler will be visiting is required. The letter must not be older than 3 months.
  • If you will be attending a trade fair, conference, training, or cultural event in the country, an invitation for the respective purpose should be provided.
  • A letter from your employer in Myanmar is required. The letter must state the applicant’s job position and salary level.
  • Proof of previous and current business transactions between the companies involved should be provided.
  • Exporters of precious stones should be in possession of their license to possess or purchase minerals.
  • Minors should ensure they are in possession of the original copy of their birth certificate.

Medical visa

  • The German medical visa is issued to Myanmars who have the intention of seeking and receiving medical treatment in the country.
  • Germany has good medical-care facilities, but treatment is not free for foreigners. If you are not a resident of Germany, doctors and hospitals may expect immediate payment in cash.
  • A medical certificate issued by the treating medical institution in Myanmar detailing the nature of the applicant’s illness and the reason treatment will be best gotten in Germany is required.
  • A written confirmation of the applicant’s appointment with the medical doctor in Germany should be provided.
  • The estimated duration of the treatment of the applicant’s illness should be stated in the letter from the medical doctor in Germany.
  • Proof of advance payment of the medical fee is required.
  • If traveling with prescription medication, check with the German Government to ensure the medication is legal in Germany.
  • Due to Germany’s strict customs regulations, you are not allowed to receive prescription medication by mail without special permission.

Student visa

  • Myanmars looking to study in Germany are required to apply for the German study visa.
  • The German student visa can be granted to you, if you’re expecting to attend any of the following study types:
    • Full-time academic studies.
    • German language courses for studies.
    • State preparatory college.
    • Propaedeutic course.
    • Mandatory preliminary internship.
  • Students must provide proof of admission into a study program. The proof must be any of the following:
    • University admission letter “Zulassungsbescheinigung”.
    • Letter of admission in foundation course. Issued by a Studienkolleg.
    • Letter of admission in propaedeutic course.
    • Letter of admission in a preparatory German language course.
  • Original certificates of earlier education must be provided by the applicant.
  • German university entrance qualification “Abitur” must be provided. (this is If you’ve studied in a German education provider abroad)
  • If you have not, you can provide a recognized foreign academic qualification. It must show you have a qualification equally recognized as the German Abitur.
  • A curriculum vitae must be provided. It has to be accompanied with evidences previous and current internship and work experiences, if any.
  • Means of subsistence “Finanzieruungsnachweis” must be provided. The proof you must show that you have enough money to cover living, accommodation and study costs.
  • Letter of declaration by the applicant's parent or guardian must be provided. It has to show their commitment to support you financially during your stay here. It must be supplemented by their bank statements of the latest 6 months.
  • A travel health insurance is required. It must have coverage of at least 30,000 EUR and it must be valid for at least 3 months.
  • A motivational letter must be provided. You’ll have to express the reason for choosing the specific university, study program. Mention also your study and future plans and how these studies will be improving your career and life.
  • Proof of German language proficiency must be provided. (this is for German-only and mixed-language study programs). It must include the following:
    • German Language University Entrance Examination for International Applicants (DSH).
    • Test of German as a Foreign Language (TestDaF).
    • Goethe Institute German Language Diploma (GDS).
    • German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, Level II (DSD).
  • Proof of English language proficiency must be provided. (this is for English and mixed-language study programs). It must include the following:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Accepted results are PbT (paper-based test) 550 Points, CbT (computer-based test) 213 Points and IbT (internet-based test) 79-80 Points.
    • The International English Language Testing system(IELTS). Accepted scores by German universities are 5 – 6.5.
