Basic Travel Requirements for Nigerians visiting Jamaica

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Jamaican Visa.

  • A Nigerian passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
  • Duly completed and signed visa application form.
  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
  • Passport-size photographs (2 x 2” dimension) taken in white background.
  • Travel document.
  • Proof of financial support
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Copy of return flight ticket
  • Documentation showing applicant’s ties to home country, e.g. verification from applicant’s employer.
  • A police report showing the traveler does not have a criminal record.
  • Medical Insurance.
  • Documentation confirming the purpose of travel.

Foreigners are required to declare sums of $10,000 on entry into the country. Contrary to popular belief, possession, trafficking, and usage of marijuana is illegal in the country.
 
Citizens of Australia, the Bahamas, Canada, Cyprus, Ghana, India, Kenya, Kiribati, Malaysia, Namibia, New Zealand, Swaziland, the United Kingdom, the United States may enter Jamaica for up to 6 months visa-free. Citizens of Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Norway, the Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland can enter Jamaica visa-free for up to 90 days.

Jamaica Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • A visitor’s visa is required for tourist visits to Jamaica.
  • The first step to securing your tourist visa is preparing your visa application and submitting to the Jamaican embassy nearest to you.
  • Your visa application will take roughly one to two weeks to be processed.
  • While no vaccinations may be required to enter the country, you should still check with the CDC on their recommended vaccinations for travel to Jamaica.
  • Your departure tax is regularly included in the airfare. You won’t be charged an exit tax on your way out.
  • A letter of invitation from your host in Jamaica is required. The letter must state the relationship between the applicant and the host and contain the valid contact information of the host.
  • You can attend festivals and events during your time in the country.
  • If you are under the age of 18 years, you are expected to be in possession of the original copy of your birth certificate. A notarized consent signed by both your parents should also be provided.
  • Holders of this visa are not allowed to be gainfully employed during their time in the country.
  • All applicants are required to provide proof of the incentive of returning to their home country at the expiry of this visa.
  • Proof of payment of visa application fee must be shown.
  • Foreigners are advised to be vaccinated against yellow fever before traveling to the country.
  • Any person planning of visiting Jamaica:
    • Should be in possession of a valid visa unless exempted from this requirement under any of the prescribed regulations.
    • Must be in a position to support himself/herself and accompanying dependents for the duration of stay;
    • Should not be of unsound mind;
    • Should not be the subject of a certificate submitted to the Immigration Officer by a health officer indicating that for medical reasons, permission to land is not desirable;
    • Should not have been sentenced in a foreign country for any extraditable crime within the meaning of the Extradition Acts 1870 and 1906;
    • Should not be the subject of a deportation order in force under the Aliens Law, Chapter 9;
    • Should not be the subject of a landing prohibition order from the Minister of National Security.

Jamaica Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Nigerians traveling to Jamaica for business must first secure a business visa.
  • All documents submitted for the process of securing this visa must be originals or certified (notarized) copies.
  • Documents provided by the applicant must be obtained only from accredited sources and departments.
  • This visa allows foreigners to negotiate and sign business contracts with their partners in the country.
  • Holders of this visa are not prohibited from attending trade fairs, conferences, and business seminars relating to their profession.
  • An official letter of invitation from the inviting company in Jamaica is required. The letter must state the purpose and duration of the visit.
  • The business letter must also state who will be responsible for the applicant’s finances during his/her time in the country.
  • A letter from the applicant’s employer should be provided. The letter must state the applicant’s job position, salary level, and length of employment.
  • Proof of previous trade relations between the applicant’s company and the host company should be provided, if any.
  • Documents which show that you have the incentive of returning to your country at the expiry of this visa is required.
  • Proof of payment of visa application fee should be provided.
  • International Certificate of Vaccination against yellow fever is required.
  • A child (under 18) who is not traveling with both parents or a legal guardian must be ready to present a notarized parental letter of consent, a notarized copy of their birth certificate and notarized copies of parents' passports upon arrival.
  • Anyone applying for this visa must have the following:
    • A valid passport
    • One passport-size photograph
    • Completed Visa Application Form J (signature is required)
    • Valid return ticket to his/her country
    • Flight itinerary
    • Visa fee payable by money order
