Basic Travel Requirements for Nigerians visiting Nepal

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Nepalese Visa.

  • A Nigerian passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
  • Duly completed and signed visa application form.
  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
  • Passport-size photographs (3.5×4.5 cm in dimension) taken in white background.
  • Travel document.

Nepal Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • A tourist visa allows Nigerians to travel to Nepal for tourism or family visit.
  • Nigerians are not eligible for a visa on arrival at immigration entry points of Nepal.
  • Tribhuvan International Airport is the only international airport of Nepal.
  • Applicants are advised to start processing their visa well in advance of their travel — sometimes the processing time could take up to one month.
  •  If you have obtained visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions, then you must enter Nepal within six months from the visa issued date. Your total stay is counted starting from the day you enter into Nepal.
  • If you are visiting Nepal for the purposes other than tourism (sightseeing, tour, travel, mountaineering, trekking, visiting friends and families), you should still get 'Tourist Visa' to get into the country. 
  • However, you must change the category of visa as per your purpose and length of stay in Nepal from Department of Immigration by producing required documents.
  • All visitors must travel to Nepal on a valid passport (non-expired). The passport must be valid for no less than six months after the intended period of stay in Nepal.
  • Unlike Nigerians, citizens of China, Brazil, Russia and Thailand do not require a visa to enter Nepal as a tourist for a period of up to 30 days.
  • The visa fee to Nepal for Nigerians is $39. While you can use different modes of payments (at visa fees collection counter), we advise you always carry some cash to be on the safe side.
  • You should contact Department of Immigration for extending your visa or changing the category of your visa, if the need arises.
  • Tourist Visa extension can be done from Immigration Office, Pokhara too. Non-tourist visa extension can be done only at Department of Immigration (if eligible) for a period of maximum one year (except business visa).
  • Each individual, regardless of age, must make a separate application. All applicants will be notified once a decision has been made.
  • All fees paid during a visa application are non-refundable and this is independent of whether visa is approved or denied.
  • Visitors are advised to be aware of brokers/cheaters or any counterfeit documents, e.g. visas or trekking permits, to avoid legal complications.
  • A change of purpose of stay without permission is not allowed, and employment or voluntary services while on a tourist visa are strictly prohibited.

Nepal Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Nigerians traveling to Nepal for business need to secure a business visa.
  • The Nepalese business visa is mainly for investors or high-profile business managers coming to the country for the sole of conducting business.
  • The Nepalese business visa is issued on a multiple-entry basis.
  • Unlike other non-tourist visa, the business visa is issued for at least a month but valid for up to 1 year for five years at a time.
  • Business Visa Fee
  • The business visa processing fee varies with the amount of investment made.
  • A business traveler looking to invest less than 10 million (NRS) will pay $30/month, $300/year or  $1000 for five years.
  • An investor investing more than 10 million (NRS) will pay $10/month, $100/year or $300 for five years.
  • An investor investing more than 100 million (NRS) will pay nothing.
  • Visa extensions are available from immigration offices in Kathmandu and Pokhara only and cost a minimum US$30 (payable in rupees only) for a 15-day extension, plus US$2 per day after that.
  • The cost to extend your visa for 30 days is US$50 and an additional US$20 for multiple entry visas.
  • Every visa extension requires your passport, the fee, one photo and an application form that must be completed online first.
  • Collect all the required documents together before you join the queue; plenty of photo shops in Kathmandu and Pokhara can make a set of eight digital passport photos for around Rs 250.
  • Visa extensions are available the same day, normally within two hours, though some travelers will pay an extra Rs 300 fee to get their extensions within 10 minutes.
  • For a fee, trekking and travel agencies can assist with the visa-extension process and save you the time and tedium of queuing.
