Basic Travel Requirements for Filipinos visiting New Caledonia

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a New Caledonian Visa.


  • A completely filled visa application form 
  • The passport photo must be no older than 6 months
  • Original Passport or Travel document with at least 6 months remaining validity on the date of travel and have at least 2 visa pages clear of any markings.
  • Hotel reservation(s) for the duration of your visit.
  • The embassy recommends not to purchase tickets until the visa is approved. 
  • Flight reservations(s) for the country of your visit and return ticket
  • An Onward Ticket is a flight reservation made by a real travel agency that can be helpful for visa applications or if you want to enter a country without purchasing a return flight. 
  • A cover letter mentioning the details of the applicant, travel, and details of the other members traveling with you.
  • Determine the type of visa to apply for
  • Provide a previous passport if any.
  • Proof of sufficient funds to support travel

New Caledonia is a french territory.  So its citizens have the French Nationality and can vote for the president of France. They have the right to vote in elections to the European Parliament.  It is governed by a 54-member Territorial Congress, a legislative body composed of members of three provincial assemblies. The French State is represented in the territory by a High Commissioner. At a national level, New Caledonia is represented in the French Parliament by two deputies and two senators. 

 Noumea is  the capital city of New Caledonia.  It  is situated on a peninsula in the south of New Caledonia's main island, Grande Terre, and is home to the majority of the island's European, Polynesian (Wallisians, Futunians, Tahitians), Indonesian, and Vietnamese populations, as well as many Melanesians, Ni-Vanuatu and Kanaks who work in one of the South Pacific's most industrialised cities.


The official language spoken in New Caledonia is French.  Nengone; Paicî; Ajië; Drehu; and 35 other native languages are also  spoken in New Caledonia.

Is food expensive in New Caledonia?

No, Delicious local food and warm hospitality are guaranteed. While definitely more expensive than many other South Pacific islands, a trip to New Caledonia doesn't have to break the bank. It does require though a bit more planning (and flexibility).


Is New Caledonia safe to visit?
Generally speaking, New Caledonia is a very safe tourist destination. However, this doesn't mean that you shouldn't take a few precautions. You should avoid driving at night, particularly in the bush (outside the Greater Nouméa area).


Can I drink the tap water in New Caledonia?

Yes, Tap water in New Caledonia and most resorts are safe to drink, but your other option is to boil water (for at least one minute) or carry water purification tablets when visiting the outer islands.


When is the best time of year to visit New Caledonia?

If you're a true sun worshipper, the best time to visit is between September and November when temperatures are warm and rainfall is low. The average monthly temperature in New Caledonia is 24°C in the shade, so trips to the beach are possible almost all year round.
