Basic Travel Requirements for Rwandans visiting Brazil
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Brazilian Visa.
- Completely filled and signed visa form application.
- Original passport valid for at least 6 months on intended date of trip to Brazil. It must have two blank pages for visa stamps.
- One 2" x 2" passport sized photograph not older than 6 months that meet the visa photo specifications.
- Documentation showing applicant’s ties to home country, e.g. verification from applicant’s employer or school for students.
- Proof of accommodation for the entire stay.
- Proof of funds to cater for expenses while in and to leave Brazil.
- Flight reservations for Brazil and return ticket to Rwanda.
- Documentation confirming the purpose of travel.
- Copy of travel itinerary.
- Proof of payment of consular fees.
- International certificate of immunization against yellow fever is recommended.
- There's no Brazilian embassy in Rwanda so all visa applications go through the one in Nairobi, Kenya.

Brazil Visitor Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The visitor visa is for travellers who intend to travel to Brazil for tourism, short study, volunteering and business related activities for a period not more than 90 days.
- You can also visit family and friends with this visa.
- If visiting a friend or family in Brazil, you're to present an invitation letter detailing the purpose and duration of the trip.
- The letter must be notarized in Brazil and the original document must be sent to the applicant.
- This visa doesn't allow for paid employment while in Brazil.
- The visa application for minors must be accompanied by travel written consent from both parents and the original birth certificate.
- There's a high risk of Malaria in forested areas like Acre, Amapa, Amazonas, Roraina and Tocantins.
- This visa is valid for 90 days but can be extended by applying for a residence permit at the Ministry of Justice, Federal Police or the Ministry of labor if purpose of extension is work related.
- This visa costs $80 and is usually processed within 5 working days.
- The visitor visa cannot be extended for more than 180 days within the period of a year.
- You're to leave the country before the expiration of your visa. You will be fined R$100 per day if you overstay your visa.
- It's illegal to bring in animals, meat, dairy, seeds, plants, egg, honey, fruit or any kind of non-processed food to Brazil without a permit.
Brazil Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The work visa is for travellers who have been employed by an entity in Brazil or for rendering a service. This visa usually allows a stay of more than 90 days.
- Duly completed application form is required.
- Original birth certificate accompanied with an apostille(authenticating seal) is needed for this application.
- A police report of good conduct from your place of residence in Rwanda for the past 12 months should be provided for this visa application.
- Proof of financial sustenance showing you can cater for your stay in Brazil is also important. This could be bank statement from the past 3 months or financial reports from the sponsoring company in Brazil.
- Documents supporting your employment in Brazil is required for this visa type.
- The Brazilian company employing you is required to apply for a work permit on your behalf through the Brazilian Ministry of Labor for analysis. It takes about 30-90 days to obtain a work permit approval.
- The Brazilian company is also required to apply for a temporary resident permit.
- This visa costs $100.

What is the best way of getting around Brazil?
The bus system in Brazil is cheap and comfortable. For long distance journeys, it is advisable to avoid the high seat numbers which are close to the toilets. Air taxis can also be a good form of movement but they often stop several times and so not best for anyone scared of flying. Renting a car is an option for commuting while in Brazil but the road quality is not the best in all parts and there are a lot of very speedy drivers.
