Basic Travel Requirements for Rwandans visiting Mongolia

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Mongolian Visa.

  • A Rwandan passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have one blank page for visa stamp.
  • Duly completed and signed visa application form.
  • The parents/legal guardians have to sign the form if the applicant is a minor.
  • Two passport-size photographs (45 x 60cm) taken on a white background.
  • Travel document must be completely provided.
  • Proof of financial capability.
  • Proof of accommodation/hotel reservations.
  • Copy of return flight ticket.

Mongolia is a prime tourist destination because of its national museum which displays historic and ethnographic artifacts. The Yolyn Am, a deep gorge with ice; and the Flaming Cliffs, orange bluffs where dinosaur fossils are found. National parks and lakes are top sites for tourists as there are a lot of activities on offer for tourists to take part in.
 
Every year, since the last decade, an average of 350,000 foreigners visit Mongolia yearly. In a bid to increase the number of foreign visitors to Mongolia, the government offered special tax exemption of up to 10% of the total investment offered for construction of highly rated hotels. Licenses for tourism business was nullified are tour operators are now not required to pay VAT.
 
Do not buy, sell, kill or capture any protected wild animal or trade its parts without a license. Anyone caught would receive lengthy prison sentences and a fine. Be aware of the local customs and avoid wearing short sleeves, this can be seen as offensive.
 
Nationals of United States, Brazil, Georgia, Serbia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine can visit Mongolia for up to 90 days without a visa. Citizens of Canada, Cuba, Germany, Israel, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, and Russia are allowed to visit the country without a visa for up to 30 days.

Mongolia Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Mongolia Tourist Visa is issued to Rwandan citizens who intend to visit Mongolia for recreation, relaxation and tourism purposes.
  • The tourist visa only accommodates short stay visits. 
  • The duration of stay in Mongolia for Rwandans with  a tourist visa  is 30 days. But the validity of the tourist visa is 90 days. 
  • This visa can be extended for up to 30 days once in a six-month period.
  • The tourist visa allows for a single entry 
  • An original passport with the validity of at least six months is required.
  • Rwandans  on the visa can also visit their friends and relatives residing in the country. However, applicants are required to obtain a family visa. 
  • Applicants are to present a proof of your hotel reservation in cases they are not staying with a host.  
  • On this visa, Rwandans can attend events and festivals during the duration of their stay. 
  • Employed applicants are to provide a  from their employers. The letter would serve as evidence that they were granted a leave and would continue working after the duration of the leave.
  • A copy of your return flight ticket must be provided.
  • A copy of your bank statement for the last six months is required; this shows that you have sufficient funds to stay in Mongolia.
  • If you intend more than 30 days in Mongolia, applicants are required to register  at the Immigration Authority within 7 days after entry into the country.  
  • Minors are to provide  the original copy of their birth certificate, as well as, a notarized consent signed by both their parents.
  • A statement that  states the applicant’s intention to return back to their home country is required. 
  • Travelers with pets are expected ton provide their pets’ passports, a medical certificate showing proof of vaccination  for at least 14 days prior to arrival to Mongolia.  And no injection should  be administered within 24 hours of arrival
  • Rwandans visiting Mongolia are allowed to bring in medicines for personal use. Other valuables like wine, cigarettes and beers are allowed too. 
  •  Holders of this visa type are not permitted to be paid for the services they render during their time in the country.
  • Mongolia is relatively a safe place for travelers, but due to petty crimes you have to be cautious during your stay.

Mongolia Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The holders of Mongolia business visa  visit Mongolia for business activities; business meetings, negotiate and sign contracts. 
  •  Rwandans who have applied for this of visa can also attend trade fairs, conferences and business summits
  • The business visa has three types; B visa, HG visa and T visa.
            - B Visa:  is a single entry business visa valid for thirty days.
            - HG visa:  is a single entry business visa valid for a year.
            - T visa:  is a multiple entry visa  valid for six months to a year. It can be renewed annually.
  •   A B visa holder cannot legally work in Mongolia. This type of  visa is meant for visitors attending meetings, conference, exhibitions and other similar events. And it has to be sponsored by a legally registered Mongolian company.
  • The HG visas allows its holders to work legally in Mongolia. In addition, the HG visa holders has to obtain a work permit from the Ministry of Labor and long-term residency permit  which allows them to legally work in Mongolia. 
  • The T visas are issued to individual foreign investors in Mongolian companies or to a foreign Executive Director of a Mongolian company. 
  • Rwandans applying for a business visa must have a passport valid for at least six months beyond stay, and also a round trip or onward ticket.
  • A letter of employment from the applicant’s employer in  Rwandan must be provided. The letter should state the applicant’s job position, the duration and the purpose of the applicant’s visit.
  • An invitation letter from the company you will be meeting up with in Mongolia is required. The letter should contain the company’s contact details and the purpose of your visit.
  • A copy of certificate of state registration, and certificate of a foreign incorporation is required from the sending company.
  • The sponsor of the trip is expected to write a business letter indicating he/she is responsible of the applicant's travel expenses .
  • A copy of the inviting company’s tax record is required.
  • An extension to this visa will be granted for up to 30 days once in six months.
  • You are to start an application for residency permit as soon as you arrive into Mongolia.
  • The processing time is usually between 2 to 5  working days. 

Mongolia Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Rwandans who intend to take up paid work while in Mongolia are eligible for this type of visa.
  • Holders of a Mongolia work visa have been offered employment in an Mongolia  company before initiating the visa application process.
  • Applicants have  to provide a letter of employment  from their future employer in Mongolia stating the position they have been offered. 
  • Rwandans  who do not have the required qualification that suits  the nature of  job they have been offered will not be granted this visa.
  • A evidence which states that no Mongolia citizen was qualified for the job must be provided by the employing company.  
  • Upon arrival to Mongolia, applicants must register with the Immigration Agency within 7 days, obtain a residence card within 21 days and obtain work permit within 10 business days.
  • Before you obtain the work permit, your work visa application must include the following;
           - Cover letter
           - The company's copy of  state registration, certificate of  foreign incorporation as well as a special permission to employ foreigners.
           - Copy of passport pages clearly containing passport number, date of issue, expiry date, your name and date of birth.
            - Copy of marriage certificate and birth certificate of  family members, if applicable.
  • The work visa can be extended up to 30 days once in six months.
  • Holders of this visa are eligible for long-term residence permit. This is to be arranged with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
  • A fee of 216,000 MNT per month is payable to the ministry in advance plus 60,000 MNT application fee.

Mongolia Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The student visa is for Rwandan students who intend to study in any recognized higher institutions in Mongolia. 
  • The Mongolian student visa is also known as  "S" visa.
  • The applicant is to present a letter  from the school he/she gained admission. It should be written with the school’s letter head and signed by the school proprietor.  
  • The Mongolia  student visa(S) is issued to students visiting Mongolia for the purposes of studying, training, internship and research.
  • The students should get prior approval from the Office of Immigration, Naturalization and Foreign Citizens (OINFC) in Ulaanbaatar.
  • The cost of studying in Mongolia depends on the particular program you are enrolled into. A ballpark figure for a year’s university tuition is US$2,000.
  • The  applicants are to provide their certificates and transcripts from previous schools to the embassy. 
  • Rwandan students studying in Mongolia  are allowed to work part-time when school is in session and full-time when the school is on break.
  • It is possible for international students to be granted permanent residence in Mongolia after completing their studies.
  • The Mongolia student visa is extendable. It can be extended  to cover the entire duration of study.
  • A minor is to provide a copy of his/her birth certificate. A letter of consent signed by both parents of the applicant is also required.
  • A medical certificate which shows proof that you are up to date with your vaccinations.  

Mongolia Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is for Rwandans  who have the intention of making short stops in Mongolia.
  • With this visa, foreigners can board a connecting flight from an airport in Mongolia to their destination country.
  • The visa is valid for 72 hours from the date of entry. 
  • A passport with the minimum of two blank pages, and with validity of at least six months beyond the intended stay is to be provided by applicants making short stops in Mongolia. 
  • A single recent colored passport photograph is to be presented. 
  • If you are applying for a transit visa, you are expected to  provide a visa and other entry permits of your destination country. 
  • A copy of plane ticket entering and exiting Mongolia should be provided.
  • A copy of a flight ticket to your destination country is needed. 
  • An official itinerary written with the tour company’s letter head  in Mongolia is required and  should  list all services and dates.  
  • Rwandans with this type of visa are not permitted to collect payment from any service rendered while in Mongolia. 
  • Holders of this type of visa  are not allowed to enroll in any institution during their stay. 
  • Minors are to  provide the original copy of their birth certificate, as well as a notarized consent signed by both their parents. 
  • Proof of payment of visa application fee is required.

Mongolia Journalist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This type of visa is for journalists  who are visiting Mongolia to represent the foreign media temporarily traveling to  Mongolia. 
  • The visa is also known as HM  visa.
  • Eligible applicants of this visa are members of media organizations in Rwanda.
  • Rwandans who apply for this visa  intend to  visit Mongolia for the purpose of media reporting.
  • This visa can be extended for 30 days. The extension can only be granted in a six-month interval, meaning you can only apply for extension after six months of stay.
  • An invitation letter from the media company you will be working with in Mongolia is required. The letter should clearly state the duration and purpose of your visit.
  • A valid means of identification of applicant is required. For example your journalist identity card.
  • This visa does not allow applicants to take up permanent residence in the country.
  • To avoid longer processing time, travelers are obliged to start their application well in advance.
  • Whether this visa is approved or not, the processing fee paid is non-refundable.
