Basic Travel Requirements for Rwandans visiting Spain
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Spanish Visa.
- Fully completed and signed visa application form
- Two recently taken photos. Both photos must be taken within the last three months and must follow all visa photo requirements.
- A valid passport which is not older than 10 years. It should be valid for at least three more months beyond the date you plan to leave Spain.
- A round trip reservation or itinerary. This must include dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Spain.
- A travel insurance policy. A document that proves you have travel health insurance for the whole Schengen territory, with a minimum coverage of 30,000 euros in case of any medical emergency as illnesses, accidents and even repatriation in case of death.
- Proof of accommodation. A document that shows where you will be accommodated throughout your stay in Spain.
- Proof of financial means. Evidence that you have enough money to support yourself financially throughout your stay in the country. This can be one of the following:
- Bank account statement – that shows you have enough money in your account for the trip. The statement shall be no older than 3 months.
- Sponsorship Letter – by another person that confirms they will be financially supporting your trip to Spain. In order for this letter to be valid, it must be accompanied by a bank statement of the sponsor, no older than three months.
- Proof of paid visa fee. €60 for adults and €35 for children from 6 to 12 years old.

General Requirements for Spain Visa

Spain Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Spain tourist visa is granted to those who intend to visit Spain for tourism, sightseeing, visiting family and other leisure activities. The tourist visa also allows you to get medical treatment in Spain.
- To begin the process of obtaining the Spanish tourist visa, you are expected to fill accurately and completely the visa application form.
- Two passport-size photographs (size 3.5x4.5cm), taken against a white background, should be sent with your filled application form.
- You must provide proof that you can cater to your financial needs for the entire duration of your stay in Spain [that means comfortably spending about $60 per day by sending copies of your bank account statements from the last six months.
- If you are visiting a relative or a friend residing in Spain, you must submit a letter of invitation from them.
- You must also provide proof of confirmed valid travel insurance with a minimum coverage of 30,000 euros, to cover any emergency medical treatment.
- You are required to submit proof that you have secured a hotel or private accommodation for the entire duration of your stay in Spain.
- As an intended tourist, you are expected to send a cover letter stating the purpose of your visit as well as all the places you plan to visit during your stay in Spain, and the time for each travel.
- You are advised to purchase your roundtrip flight ticket before submitting your application as you will be required to provide proof that you intend to return to your country of origin once your visa expires.
- Students are required to provide proof of enrollment and leave approval from their school or university while employed individuals should provide proof of their employment in the form of an employment contract, current bank statements of the latest six months and an Income Tax Return (ITR).
- Self-employed applicants should provide a copy of their business license, the company's bank statement of the latest six months and an Income Tax Return.
- For the final step in your application, your biometric data will be collected after the submission of your visa application form. Thus, you should submit your application form in person.
- While this visa allows you to enter Spain and other countries in the Schengen Area, it does not permit you to work in these countries.
- You are advised to check that all necessary documents and copies are sent along with your completed visa application form as any missing document could delay the processing of your visa application.
Spain Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Spanish business visa is issued to foreign citizens who intend to enter Spain for the purpose of engaging in business activities.
- This visa permits you to stay for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period.
- You need to fill the visa application form accurately and completely then sign it before submitting. Failure to do this can delay the processing of your visa application. You can fill in and sign this form with a blue or black pen or type-fill it.
- Your passport must be original with at least two blank pages and have a validity of not less than three months beyond the date you intend to leave Spain.
- Two recently taken passport-size photographs, taken against a white background and showing your whole face, is required for your visa application.
- You also need to present proof that you have a Spain Travel Insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000 to cover for any medical emergencies for the entire duration of your stay in Spain.
- You must prove that you are financially able to fund the entire duration of your trip and to also live comfortably on at least €65 per day while in Spain, by providing your most recent bank account statements.
- To obtain a Spanish business visa, you must submit an original copy of a letter of invitation from a Spanish company, addressed to the Consulate General of Spain in your home country and written in Spanish. This letter must clearly state your personal data (such as your full name and passport number), the reason behind the invitation and the trade relations between your company and the inviting Spanish company.
- If there exist previous trade relations between your company and the partner Spanish company, you must provide proof of such relations. This proof could be original bills of lading, custom clearance documents or any such proof you have.
- As proof that you intend to return to your country of origin once your visa expires, you are required to provide proof of a roundtrip ticket. You are thus advised to book your flight to Spain before you begin your application process.
- You are also required to secure a hotel accommodation in Spain for the entire duration of your stay in the country and provide proof of this.
- If you are employed, you must provide proof of this in the form of an employment contract, leave letter, your current bank account statement of the latest six months and an Income Tax Return.
- If you are self-employed, a copy of your business license, your company's bank account statements of the last six months, as well as an Income Tax return, must be submitted.
Spain Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- If
you plan to travel to Spain to study for longer than three months, then you
need to get a student visa (Type D visa).
- You need to have been offered admission into a Spanish school before you begin
the process of getting a student visa.
- Once
you have a confirmed admission offer to study in Spain, you should obtain
a Spanish visa application form (available for free) and fill it
accurately and completely before submitting. If your application form is
not correctly filled in, this may delay the processing of your visa
application.
- Your
passport must be original with at least two blank pages for visa stamps,
and be valid for not less than three months beyond the date you intend to
leave Spain.
- You
need to obtain a medical certificate confirming that you do not have any
diseases that would require you to be quarantined.
- You
also need medical travel insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000
to cover the entire duration of your stay in Spain, in case of
any medical emergency.
- You
also need to provide proof that you have the means to support yourself
financially for the entire duration of your stay in Spain. Such proof
could be scholarship details, a Spanish bank showing sufficient funds or a
letter of sponsorship from your parents or guardians assuming full
responsibility for your financial needs.
- You
must provide a police record, issued within the last five years confirming you do not have any pending criminal case. Applicants with an ongoing criminal case will not be issued this visa.
- As
proof that you have secured admission into a Spanish school, you must
provide official proof stating the details of the study you intend to take in
Spain, including the hours of study per week (not less than 20 hours).
- If
you are a minor you must submit copies of your birth certificate and a letter signed by both parents declaring their consent.
- While
the application for this visa usually takes 15 days, the period can extend to 30 days for specific reasons. You should, therefore, begin your
application as soon as possible.
- In addition, to study in Spain for more than 6 months, you also need to obtain a Spanish student residence permit within 30 days of entering Spain. This permit can be obtained from a police station or your local Foreign Office.
- The following
documents are needed for a Spanish student residence permit application:
- Your
passport having a validity of at least six months.
- Completed
residence permit application form, which can be obtained from the office
you want to apply for the permit.
- Photocopy
of your passport stamp showing your entry into Spain.
- Acceptance
letter from the school confirming your course of study.
- Three
passport-size photographs.
- Letter
of residency that confirms that you are a resident in Spain. This letter
can be obtained at the police station by presenting your valid passport,
rental contract or utility bill.
- Once your application is approved, you’ll be given a student residence permit/card. This permit is valid for a year and can be renewed every year for five years as long as your studies continue.
- The student residence permit entitles you to work either part-time or in a temporary position for up to 20 hours per week, as long as it does not interfere with your studies and you are not using the money you earn to support yourself while you are in Spain.
Spain Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Spanish work visa allows foreign citizens to work as employees in Spain.
- You have to secure employment in Spain before starting the process of getting a work visa. After you have secured a job, your employer must request a work permit on your behalf that will allow you to work legally in Spain.
- The permit will only be granted if the job is listed as a Shortage Occupation or if the vacancy has been advertised and there are no suitable candidates from Spain or the EU to take the job.
- Once you have been authorized to work in Spain, you will be issued a work permit. Only then can you begin your work visa application.
- You cannot apply for your own work visa in Spain as the Spanish immigration law dictates that employers must submit the application on your behalf.
- However, you need to provide your employer with all the relevant documents needed to apply on your behalf.
- The
following documents are needed to process your work visa:
- Your
original passport with a minimum of six months validity.
- A
duly completed and signed visa application form.
- Two
passport-size photographs taken with a white background.
- A
police report showing no criminal record obtained within the latest 90
days.
- Original
copy of a medical certificate issued by a medical institution and signed
by a doctor verifying that you are free from any contagious
diseases, and that you are free of any drug addictions and mental
illnesses.
- Processing your work permit can take up to eight months so you are advised to start your application well in time.
- A work permit is valid for one year but it can be renewed as long as you still fulfill the requirements under which it was first issued.
