The Faroe Islands is a self-governing archipelago, part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Faroe Islands Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Faroe Islands tourist visa is issued to applicants who intend to visit the island for tourism and leisure.
  • Entry into the Faroe Islands is by transit through Denmark as it is not a Schengen country.  
  • Visas are to be requested for at the Denmark embassy or consulate in South Africa. 
  • It should be noted that applicants must have it clearly stated on their visa that it is valid for the Faroe Islands. as the absence of this information on the applicant's  visa results  into denial of entry.
  • The applicant must present a valid passport  that must have been issued in ten years before the application period.
  • Passport photo requirements include the following: 
    • The photo should have been taken in at least six months before the application date.
    • The photo should measure 2 x 2 cm.
    • The photo should show  60-70% face and  should have a white background. 
    • There should be no head coverings and the expression on the applicant's face must be neutral.                                 
  • A proof of financial stability of the applicant for the duration of stay should be provided.
  • Applicants must also have a flight itinerary accompanying their documents such as a  birth certificate, marriage certificate etc.

  • This visa is issued to those who intend travelling to Faroe Islands for business purposes.
  • Applicants are expected to duly follow the stated passport requirements to get their applications processed.
  • In the case of an employed individual going on behalf of his or her company, a signed leave of permission from his or her company is required.
  • A letter of invitation must be signed by the host organisation the in Faroe islands.
  • The invitation letter  should be submitted along with other important documents.
  • If the applicant is coming for personal business, there should be a proof of the business' authenticity.  
  • For both cases, an original bank statement dating back to 6 months from the time of application is compulsory. 
  • There also has to be an Income Tax Return document for both cases. 
  • A document that reflects the financial support of the individual is to be provided by the host company.

  • This visa is issued to those with the intention to study in any institution in Faroe Islands.
  • Applicants are to follow the requirements for a valid passport and visa application.
  • The applicant is expected to have a proof of enrollment in a school in the Faroe Islands .
  • There should also be a no- objection certificate issued and signed by the school of admission.
  • The applicant must prove that he or she has a means of sustenance and financial support throughout the study period.
  • Applicants of this visa must be issued a residence permit. There should also be a work permit if your education program requires a mandatory internship. 
  • An authentic residence and work permit document must be presented alongside other documents.
  • A proof of accommodation for the duration of stay is required. 
  • Documents that show the letter or appointment at the place of internship should also be provided in the case where it is mandatory.
