Application requirements
Documents South African applicants need to provide.
- One copy of duly completed visa application form.
- Bank statement which is not older than 3 months showing sufficient and sufficient flow of funds for the duration of your stay in the country.
- Two 30 mm x 40 mm passport-sized photographs.
- Return and onward ticket with entry and exit dates.
- Copy of travel itinerary.
- Proof of accommodation.
- Two passport sized photographs not older than three months which is in accordance with the passport format for a visa application.
- Valid passport with a validity of at least 6 months from the date of visa application. The visa should have one blank page.
- Valid travel insurance.

Tourist visa
- This visa is for travelers with the intention of visiting Romania for sightseeing, relaxation and recreation.
- The tourist visa also doubles as a visitor visa. You can gain entry into the country to visit friends and relatives.
- Holders of this visa are neither allowed to work nor study while in the country.
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required.
- Minors are expected to be in possession of the original copy of their birth certificate.
- A letter of invitation from your host in the country is required. The letter should contain a valid means of identification of your host as well as your host’s home address
- You are expected to abide by the rules of your visa.
- At the expiry of your visa, you are to leave the country at the expiry of your visa.
- Receipt of paid visa application fees is required.
- The visa is valid for 30 days.
- The tourist visa cannot be extended.
Business visa
- This visa allows business-oriented travelers perform their business activities in the country without restriction.
- Applicants of this visa do so with the intention of visiting the country to attend business meetings, sign and negotiate contracts.
- Holders of this visa can attend conferences, trade fairs and business lectures.
- A letter of invitation from the company you are meeting with in Romania should be provided. The duration and purpose of your visit in the country should be stated in the letter.
- Letter from your current employer stating that your business leave is approved. The duration of your leave should be stated in the letter.
- Proof of paid visa application fee should be provided.
- If you are under the age of 18, you are expected to provide a copy of your birth certificate.
- If you are traveling with your spouse, the original copy of your marriage certificate should be tendered.
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required.
- The visa is valid for 30 days.
- There is no extension to the business visa.
Medical visa
- Medical visa is issued to foreigners who visit Romania with the intention of seeking medical attention in Romania.
- You are required to present a document from your local physician stating your ailment and the reason treatment cannot be gotten in South Africa.
- A letter of invitation from the medical facility taking up the responsibility of your treatment is required. The letter should state if there is an organization taking up the payment of your medical fees or if you will be responsible for it.
- If the applicant of this visa is a minor, a document which serves as a proof of parental consent is required.
- The original copy of the minor’s birth certificate should be provided.
- Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required.
- You are not allowed to work or seek public funds with this visa.
- At the conclusion of your treatment, you are required to leave the country.
- An extension may be granted at the expiry of the visa if the treatment is not completed.
Transit visa
- The transit visa allows foreigners to make shortstops in the country.
- Applicants of this visa do so if joining connecting flights to their final destination from Romania.
- You could also be a seaman coming from a port in South Africa to join up with a ship at a port in Romania.
- The flight ticket and the visa of your destination country should be provided.
- If the applicant is a non-South African, a copy of your South African stay permit should be presented.
- Minors should be in possession of the original copy of their birth certificate.
- The visa is valid for 5 days.

Student visa

Official visa
- Diplomatic visa allows South African government officials visit Romania in order to foster the relationship between the country’s governments.
- A diplomatic note from the South African government stating your status in the government, duration of your visit and the purpose of your visit in the country.
- If the purpose of your visa is non-official, you will not be issued this visa type. The visa type that suits the purpose of your visit should be applied for.

- You are not required to pay consular fees as a diplomat.
