General Requirements for Ireland Visa
Ireland Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Irish tourist visa is issued to Ugandans looking to travel to Ireland for tourism purposes.
- The Irish tourist visa is also known as a short-stay Type C visa.
- The short-stay visa is valid for 90 days and it is not extendable.
- There are two types of Irish tourist visa:
- Single-entry visa: this visa goes for 60 Euros.
- Multiple-entry visa: this visa goes for 100 Euros.
- This visa does not allow you to:
- Do work (paid or unpaid) of any kind.
- Use any publicly funded services, eg a public hospital.
- Applicants are required to provide an application letter, the letter must explain why you want to come to Ireland. Sign and date the letter and submit it with your documents.
- The letter must include the following:
- Your full name and postal address
- Reason you want to come to Ireland
- Dates you plan to arrive and leave
- Your letter must also include a commitment from you that you will:
- Obey the conditions of your visa in full.
- Not rely on public services (eg public hospitals) or become a burden on the State.
- Leave Ireland before your immigration permission expires.
- If your application for a visa is approved, you must get travel/medical insurance before you travel. You will not be allowed to enter Ireland without it. In some cases, you may be asked to submit proof that you have travel/medical insurance before a visa is granted.
- An immigration officer at border control can refuse you entry even if you have a visa.
Ireland Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Ugandans looking to study in Ireland can apply for an Irish student visa.
- There are two types of Irish student visa:
- 'C - Type study visa' – for any study program/course that lasts less than three months.
- 'D - Type study visa' – if you applied for a course that lasts longer than three months.
- Applicants are required to provide a letter of acceptance from a recognized school or college or university in Ireland confirming that they have been accepted on a course of study. This course of study must be full-time (lasting an academic year) and have a minimum of 15 hours per week study time.
- Evidence that you have enough funds (€7,000) to maintain yourself for the initial part of your stay must be provided.
- Evidence that you or a sponsor have access to at least €7,000 for each subsequent year of your studies, in addition to the course fees for each of those years must also be provided.
- During their approved stay under the scheme, students can work full-time (40 hours a week).
- Those who apply successfully can remain in Ireland for 12 months from the day they received their exam results to find employment. For students completing a postgraduate program, they could be permitted to stay for 24 months in total after graduation.
- The tuition fees you will pay in Ireland will vary depending on where you choose to study and where you are from. Ireland operates a Free Fees Initiative for full-time undergraduate study. On average you should expect to pay between €5,000 and €10,000 per year.
- International students must meet minimum English language requirements in order to be granted a student immigration permission.
- You will be required to provide proof of English language proficiency through an internationally recognized certificate that has been issued within two years of the expected start date of the course to be considered valid.

How do I appeal a visa refusal to Ireland?
Your letter of refusal will state if you are allowed to appeal. There is no fee. Your appeal must arrive within 2 months of the date on the letter of refusal. If your appeal is late, the original visa decision cannot be changed.

There is no mandatory waiting period for re-application – unless otherwise noted, you may apply again for a visa at any time after your first rejection. However, sending the same application a second time without additional information is likely to result in rejection for the same reasons as the first.
