Basic Travel Requirements for Ugandans visiting Mexico

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Mexican Visa.

  • An Ugandan passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
  • Duly completed and signed visa application form.
  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
  • Passport-size photographs (35 mm x 45 mm) taken in white background.
  • Travel document.
  • Proof of financial support
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Copy of return flight ticket

Facts about Mexico

Mexico is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. The country is known for its beaches, culture and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. There are a plethora of beaches in the country with the most popular being the resort town of Cancun. University students during their spring break make the resort their top destination during this period. Other beaches include the beach in Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas, Mazunte, etc. Activities to be carried out on the beaches in Mexico include surfing, snorkeling, cliff diving, and fishing.
 
Tourism in Mexico is the third-largest source of income for Mexico. The country is one of the most visited countries in the world and the second-most visited countries in the Americas. In 2017, the number of visitors in Mexico was close to 40 million which was up 12 percent from 2016. It has been estimated that the number is going to increase at a rate of about 4.2 million per year.
 
Foreigners visiting Mexico will not be allowed entry into or exit from Mexico with more than $10,000 or its equivalent in any currency. Punishment for drug-related crimes are very severe and those who are caught engaging in any of these offenses will be jailed for a long period of time.

Mexico Visitor Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The visitor's visa is issued to Ugandans who wish to visit Mexico for tourism or leisure. 
  • With the visitor's visa,  you are allowed attend Mexican festivals and events. Applicants are required to present a letter from their current employer stating awareness of leave. This letter will also serve to confirm that the applicant has the intention of returning to his home country.
  • This visa is a single-entry visa, and it is valid for 180 days. It is extendable in certain circumstances.
  • You must fill a Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM) card before you enter Immigration and Customs at your port of entry. Normally, an FMM card will be given to you on your inbound flight.
  • At your first port of entry in Mexico, you have to go through Customs and Immigration. You will be asked about your purpose of travel, whether it’s your first time in Mexico, etc.
  • Depending on how you answer these questions, your passport will be stamped.
  • You must retain the FMM card while you are in Mexico. If you lose, you have to pay a penalty on your exit.
  • You have to return the FMM card to the airline staff on your exit. If you lose your FMM card, you must pay a penalty.
  • To avoid any penalties and delays on your exit, make sure to keep the FMM card safe while you are in the country.
  • Foreigners should be aware that Mexican law permits Mexican immigration authorities to deny foreigners entry into Mexico if they have been charged with or convicted of a serious crime in Mexico or elsewhere.
  • A parent or legal guardian departing Mexico with minor children should carry a notarized consent letter from the other parent if traveling separately. INM requires at least one parent to complete a SAM (Formato de Salida de Menores) for all minors departing Mexico with a third party.

Mexico Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Ugandans traveling to Mexico for business will have to apply for the Mexican business visa first.
  • Business travelers are permitted to attend conferences, trade fairs, and business summits while they are in Mexico.
  • A signed official letter from your employer confirming that you are undertaking this business trip on the company’s behalf is needed.
  • The purpose and dates of the trip will also be outlined in the letter.
  • If a number of trips are required/envisaged, this must be clearly stated in the letter.
  • If going for a business meeting, the Mexican company you’d be meeting may also provide a letter confirming the trip.
  • If you are responsible for the costs of the trip, evidence of how you intend to finance your trip and support yourself for the duration of your visit must be provided.
  • Certificate of business registration of the Mexican company you’d be visiting may be required.
  • As always, carry a copy of your return ticket and hotel or hostel booking just in case.
  • Mexico visa costs about $32 and takes only two days for processing, in most cases. Depending on the country and embassy involved, processing time could go up to 8 weeks so applicants are advised to always submit their applications well in advance.
  • A document that shows that you have the incentive of returning to your country at the expiry of your visa should be submitted during the visa application process.
  • You must provide proof of your financial ability so as to support yourself financially during your stay in Mexico and for your return transportation.
  • Visitors are required to have at least  USD 50 per day to finance their stay in Mexico.
