Basic Travel Requirements for Emiratis visiting Eritrea

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Eritrean Visa.

  • Eritrea visa application form that is fully completed and signed by the applicant.
  • Original UAE passport with at least six months' validity must have two blank pages for the visa stamp.
  • One passport photograph with a white background is required.
  • The passport photograph must not be older than six months.
  • Applicants must strictly follow Eritrea visa requirements or the application will be rejected.
  • Receipt showing the applicant has paid the visa application fee.
  • The applicant should provide a bank statement indicating proof of sufficient funds during the period of stay in Eritrea.
  • A police report indicating the applicant has no international criminal record.
  • A valid travel document/itinerary, showing entry and exit date.
  • Certificate of vaccination showing applicants has not contacted any contagious disease.
  • The Certificate of vaccination must be issued by the Ministry of Health in UAE.
  • Underage children travelling alone, important certified authorization by the parent is required.
  • Health insurance for the period of stay in Eritrea, covering medical costs throughout the stay.

Facts about Eritrea

Eritrea is home to a large number of wildlife and the regulations enforced by the Eritrean government has helped to steadily increase the number of wildlife animals. There are various species of mammals and 560 species of birds. While in the country you can see wonderful animals like the Abyssinia hare, African wild cat, Black-backed jackal, African golden wolf, Lions, African bush elephants and a host of others. Other attractions in Eritrea include Tank Graveyard, Opera house, Imperial Palace, etc. Tourists are sure to enjoy their time in the country.
 
Tourism in Eritrea is not as dominant as it used to be in the previous century. Although, the government is putting in a very big effort to develop the country’s tourism and make it better than what it was.
 
Visitors are not allowed to take photographs of military and government buildings. If you want to exchange money, it should be done at a state foreign currency exchange Himbol branch, it is illegal to do it anywhere else. All foreign currencies in excess of $10,000 should be declared on entry into Eritrea.

Eritrea Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The tourist visa is issued to foreigners to visit Eritrea for recreation, relaxation, sightseeing, and visiting of friends and family members.
  • Bank statements showing proof of sufficient fund covering the whole duration of stay is required.
  • Proof of the incentive of returning to your country at the expiry of your visa.
  • Medical travel insurance should be valid for the whole duration of stay in Eritrea.
  • A copy of confirmed travel itinerary showing dates of entry and exit is required.
  • An invitation letter from the host in Eritrea is required from applicants visiting their family members or friends in Eritrea.
  • The invitation letter should clearly state the relationship with the applicant, duration and purpose of visit to Eritrea.
  • Applicant traveling through a tourist group should provide a letter of invitation from a registered tourist group in Eritrea.
  • Applicants that are not citizens of the United Arab Emirates are required to provide a valid residence permit.
  • Minors should present the original copy of their birth certificate and a letter of consent signed by the parents is required.
  • Receipt of the paid visa application form should be submitted.
  • Applicants are to submit proof of hotel reservation showing proof of accommodation in Eritrea.
  • Holders of the tourist visa are not required to work or study throughout the required stay in Eritrea.

Eritrea Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Applicants traveling to Eritrea for business purposes such as negotiating and signing contracts with their partners in the country and maintaining business relationships with other partners in Eritrea can apply for the Eritrea business visa
  • Applicants can attend conferences, trade fairs, and business summits during their stay in the country.
  • Applicants are advised to make their application at least 1 month before the proposed date of travel.
  • An official letter of invitation from the host company or organization in Eritrea is required. 
  • The letter must indicate the applicant’s job position, the address of the company, duration, and purpose of the business trip.
  • A letter from the applicant’s employer in UAE stating awareness and allowance of the business leave is required. 
  • The letter should also state the position the applicant is holding in the company and that the applicant has intentions of returning to the current job in UAE.
  • If the applicant is self-employed, a copy of the applicant’s certificate of business registration and the income tax return is required.
  • If there have been previous business dealings between the company in UAE and the company in Eritrea, documents showing proof of this is required.
  • Applicants should provide a copy of their flight itinerary from the airline agency showing entry and departure from Eritrea.
  • A copy of a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required.
