Germany Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Germany issues a tourist visa to individuals who want to travel for pleasure and recreational purposes.
  • This visa is a Schengen visa and grants a stay of 90 days to travellers.
  • You are required to provide proof of hotel accommodation in Germany for the entire duration of your stay, such as a confirmed hotel booking clearly showing the name and contact details of the hotel.
  • If you will be staying with a friend or relative, the address and contact details of the host should be submitted.
  • All travellers must have at least  €105 ($117) to spend per day. This will serve as proof to the Consular Officer that the individual can afford the trip.
  • Your German host will also be required to write an invitation letter stating the relationship between the applicant and host, duration and purpose of the trip.
  • It is necessary to have a return flight reservation proof even if it is temporary. This will prove that the applicant has the incentive of returning to home country at the expiration of the visa.
  • A medical insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000 and valid for the whole Schengen Area is required.
  • Minors travelling to Germany should present the original copy of their birth certificate, copy of both parents’ ID cards and passports and a legalised written consent letter from both parents if the minor is travelling alone, or from the parent that is not travelling with the child.
  • Without visa fees, the application will not be processed.
  • It is advisable to apply for a visa at least 30 days before your trip is due to enable the consul to ask for additional documents if necessary.
  • Applications are to be submitted in person to the embassy as bio-metric data will be captured.
  • This visa cannot be used for other purposes aside from tourism and leisure.

Germany Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • A German business visa is a short-stay Schengen visa that is issued to foreign nationals who intend to travel to Germany to engage in any form of business activity such as a business meeting, business summit, trade fair or other related activities.
  • Individuals attending conferences are to submit a proof of pre-registration for the conference and the activities to be done at the conference.
  • Holders of this visa are not allowed to take up any form of employment or engage in manual labor.
  • Employed applicants are to submit a letter from the current employer containing the applicant's position at the office and that the applicant is on an approved leave.
  • If you own your business, you are to submit the business registration certificate and a copy of the company's tax income clearance.
  • Retired applicants should present a copy of their retirement certificate and proof that they are receiving pension.
  • You are required to submit a signed letter of invitation from the inviting German organisation. The invitation must contain the following:
    • Applicant’s personal data,
    • Purpose of travel to Germany,
    • Duration of intended stay in Germany,
    • Who will be financially responsible for the applicant for the entire duration of stay,
    • Date and contact details of the inviting organisation, and
    • If the inviting organisation will be financially responsible for the applicant.
  • You are required to present a confirmed travel itinerary or a preliminary ticket booking.
  • You do not have to buy a flight ticket before you are granted your visa, a dummy flight ticket however has to be presented.

Germany Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • A student visa is issued to individuals who have gained admission to study in any form of institution in Germany for over 90 days.
  • The Germany student visa is called a long-stay visa.
  • You will be required to fill two copies of the category D visa when applying for the visa.
  • Applicants are to submit a copy of their original birth certificate with two copies.
  • Your Botswana school leaving certificate or transcript of previous degrees should be submitted too.
  • You must be admitted into the institution in Botswana before applying for the visa. The original admission letter issued by the German academic institution will be required.
  • All students must submit proof of sufficient funds for the duration of their study. It could be a sponsor or a scholarship.
  • If you are on scholarship, you will be required to submit a scholarship certificate showing €853 per month for at least one year.
  • A valid health insurance that will cover the applicant throughout the study duration is required.
  • Evidence of language proficiency in the language of study should be submitted. If you are not proficient in the language of study, it should be stated in the letter of acceptance that the language skills have already been considered in the admission procedure. 
  • Applications are to be submitted in person to the German embassy or consulate in Botswana.
