Basic Travel Requirements for Burkinabes visiting Greenland

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Greenlandic Visa.


  • A properly filled visa application form.
  • Original Burkinabe passport with at least 6 months validity beyond the date of travel.
  • One passport size photo taken on a white background, and within the last 6 months. 
  • Copy of travel itinerary showing exact dates of travel.
  • An original letter from your employer/school (on business letterhead, with contact details), stating that a leave of absence has been granted and that you will be returning to your current job. 
  • The employment letter must be addressed to the Greenland High Commission.
  • Business license and tax return for self-employed persons. 
  • If you are retired,  submit proof of your retirement fund.
  • A copy of confirmed hotel reservations including the name of the applicant, name, and address of the hotel and duration of stay.
  • Original or copy of bank statements for the 3 months. It should contain the full address and name of the applicant, bank transactions and salary. 
  • The final balance needs to be at least £500 and must show that there are sufficient funds to pay the cost of the accommodation if not yet paid at the time of submitting the application.
  • Travel insurance (all-risk medical travel insurance) clearly showing the applicant’s name has to be valid throughout the complete territory of the Schengen Area and must cover the entire period of the applicant’s intended stay in Greenland. 
  • The minimum coverage for a medical emergency is €30,000.
  • All original documents have to be presented together with a photocopy. The Embassy will not return original documents if photocopies are not supplied.
  • All supporting documents must not be older than 1 month unless otherwise specified above.
