The Republic of Gambia is a small West African country with its capital in Banjul. The country is known for its spectacular golden beaches and sleepy fishing villages despite its being surrounded by Senegal on all sides

Gambia has a tropical climate all year round. Its hot and rainy season lasts from June until November and from them until May, cooler temperatures prevail.

There is a variety of ethnic groups in Gambia each with its own language and traditions. The largest of them are the Mandinka, the Fula, the Wolof, the Jola/Karoninka, etc. Generally, Gambians are descendants of the Sierra Leone Creole people. Gambia's official language is English and indigenous languages like Mandinka, Wolof, and Fula are spoken as well. Gambians are 90% Muslim.

Gambia is very famous for its palm lined golden beaches and is a great holiday spot. Some tourist locations in Gambia are:
  • Abuko Nature Reserve: This is Gambia's first Nature Reserve and most visited tourist attraction with over 30,000 tourists each year. There are antelopes, African palm civets, crocodiles, and several other animal species as well as a striking diversity of bird species to be experienced in this park. It is the closest tropical forest to Europe.
  • Banjul: The capital city of Gambia is not exactly the most popular tourist location in the country for unknown reasons, but it is definitely worth visiting. It features impeccable colonial architecture, urban markets, and has a wealth of Gambian history to divulge to visitors. It is the best place to discover Gambian history and culture as well as the more modern Gambia.
  • Albert Market, Banjul: This market is probably Banjul's busiest spot. There are lots of goods and gems such as gadgets, clothing, foods, beauty supplies, etc to be discovered at this market and the hassling and haggling between traders and buyers is almost a tourist experience in itself.
  • Bijilo Forest Park: This Park is basically a small monkey haven where at least  three different species of the excitable animals reside and visitors can have a personal experience the monkeys. Over a hundred bird species also call this park their home.

The Gambian economy is heavily dependent on groundnut (peanut) production and exportation. Gambia is a major destination for female sex tourism (when middle-aged European and American women travel to the country to meet young Gambian men willing to trade sex for money, gifts and favours or visas).

Gambia is well known for its beautiful beach hotels and has accommodations for every budget.
