Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Sri Lankan Visa.

  • Passport with a validity of more than 6 months from the intended period of exiting the country. The passport should have at least two blank pages for the necessary stamp.
  • Duly completed visa application form signed by the applicant.
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs with a white background. The photo should follow the specification for a visa application.
  • Original copy of bank statement from the past three months prior to the period of visa application. This is proof of a steady and continuous flow of funds.
  • Travel insurance which has sufficient medical coverage. The insurance should be valid for the duration of your stay in the country.
  • Proof of accommodation for the period you will be staying in the country.
  • Copy of return flight ticket.

Tourists visiting Sri Lanka are usually taken aback by the natural scenic beauty in the country. They include mountainous terrains, agricultural landscapes, waterfalls, and rivers. For such a small country, Sri Lanka possesses a high level of biodiversity and wildlife resources. About 13% of the country’s land surface has been designated as Wildlife Protected Areas, you can imagine how many national parks and how many species of wildlife that can be seen here. The country also possesses nearly 1600km coastlines with tropical beaches which tourists like to visit. The beaches offer activities such as sea bathing, swimming, surfing, boating, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing, underwater photography, and scuba diving. Sri Lanka is sometimes referred to as the hidden city because lots of tourists fly over the country without exploring the tourist’s attractions in the country.
 
Since the end of the civil war, which lasted 25 years, in 2009, Sri Lanka has become one of the country’s tourists look forward to visiting and this is reflected by the rapid increase in the number of tourists visiting the country year after year. In 2018, the country played host to over 2.3 million tourists and it has been estimated that the number of tourists visiting the country is going to increase for years to come.
 
On entry to Sri Lanka, tourists are required to declare foreign currency amounting to $10,000. If exiting with foreign currency of over $5,000, the full amount brought in or acquired in Sri Lanka must be declared. Do not mistreat Buddhist images and artifacts as this is a serious offense and you could be convicted for this.
 
Citizens of Singapore, Maldives and Seychelles are exempted from requiring a visa to gain entry to Sri Lanka.

The penalties for drug-related crimes and crimes relating to the abuse of children are severe. Tourist should ensure they carry a form of identification with them at all times, otherwise, they may be detained. Sex-sex relations are illegal in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is issued to foreigners who have the intention of visiting Sri Lanka for sightseeing, holidaying, excursions, and relaxation.
  • Foreign nationals who have the intention of visiting their friends and relatives are eligible to apply for this visa.
  • A letter of invitation from the applicant’s host in the country is required. The letter must state the relationship between the applicant and the host and must contain the contact information of the host.
  • Applicants who have the intention of receiving medical treatment in the country can apply for this visa.
  • If you are traveling with a minor, the original birth certificate which carries both names of the minor’s parents is required.
  • You are not permitted to engage in business activities during your time in the country.
  • Holders of this visa can attend festivals and events that are of interest to them while in the country.
  • This visa type is a double entry visa type.
  • The Tourist Visa can be extended for a further two months by the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is issued to foreign nationals who have the intention of engaging in business activities during their time in the country.
  • During your time in the country, you are allowed to sign and negotiate business contracts with partners during business meetings.
  • Holders of this visa can attend conferences, workshops, and seminars during their time in the country.
  • Egyptians who have the intention of attending short term training programs. Participate in art, music and dance events can apply for this visa.
  • This visa allows its holders to participate in religious events and symposiums.
  • A letter from the inviting company in Sri Lanka is required. The letter must be printed on the company’s letterhead and must be signed by an authorized signatory in the company.
  • A letter from the sending company in Egypt should be provided. The letter must state the duration and purpose of the applicant’s visit.
  • The letter must state who will be financially responsible for the applicant during his/her time in the country.
  • Proof of payment of visa application fee is required.

Sri Lanka Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is granted to foreign nationals visiting Sri Lanka for short stopovers.
  • The Transit Visa allows foreign nationals to transit through Sri Lanka to their destination country.
  • Foreigners who will be leaving the airport before traveling to their destination country do not need to apply for this visa.
  • Flight ticket of your destination country is required.
  • Applicants of this visa are required to be in possession of the visa and other entry permits of their destination country.
  • This visa is a single-entry visa valid for 48 hours.
  • The Transit Visa is issued free of charge if the applicant will not exceed 48 hours in the country.
  • Minors applying for this visa should be in possession of the original copy of their birth certificate.

  • This visa is issued to holders of diplomatic or official passports visiting Sri Lanka for official purposes.
  • Holders of the official passport visiting Sri Lanka for other purposes must follow the relevant application procedure.

  • Applicants of this visa can be accompanied to the country by their spouse and dependent children.
