Basic Travel Requirements for Eritreans visiting Germany

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a German Visa.


  • An original Eritrean international passport which carries a validity of a minimum of 3 months after the intended date of expiry of the visa requested. The passport must have two blank pages for necessary stamps.
  • Provision of photocopy of previous passports, if the current passport dates from less than one year. Photocopy of previous Schengen visas should also be provided.
  • Correctly filled visa application form and must be appropriately signed.
  • One colored identity passport-sized photograph. The photograph must be taken with a white background.
  • Proof of means of subsistence should be provided. 
  • Travel insurance which is valid for all the countries within the Schengen area, which has sufficient coverage for medical and repatriation costs in case of accident or sickness. The insurance must have a minimum coverage of €30,000.
  • Receipt of payment which shows that payment has been made for the visa.
  • Certificate of accommodation, confirmed hotel reservation, proof of rental which shows that you indeed have a place to stay during your visit to Germany.
  • Reservation of return air ticket.
