Basic Travel Requirements for Eritreans visiting Japan

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Japanese Visa.

    • One 45mmx45mm passport-sized photo is required.

      Japan Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements


      • A visitor who wants to visit Japan for tourism purposes need to obtain a tourist visa. 
      • The visa is  issued  for only short-stays. 
      • The validity of the visa is for 3 to 4 months. 
      • The tourist visa has a single entry visa basis which allows travelers to gain entry into Japan for a period of 30 days.
      • The visa can applied on a  double entry basis, which means applicants can gain entry to  Japan twice  within a 6 month period. 
      • Multiple entry are valid for a period of one year to five years, depending on the visitor's nationality.  
      • The activities tourists can do include; sightseeing, visiting friends, or attending conferences or courses. 
      • A  signed passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry is required.
      •  A recent 45mmx45mm passport-sized photo taken on a white background should be submitted along with the passport. 
      •  Bank statements from the previous six months to prove your financial stability is required. 
      • Married couples are to submit their marriage certificate issued within the last year. 
      • A birth certificate is needed for identification at the embassy. 
      • If you intend to visit Japan, you are to have at least $5000 or its equivalent in your country's currency.
      • A travel itinerary including your flight exit and entry dates. 
      • Citizens of Eritrea cannot work or receive payment for any service offered on this visa. 
      • A copy of the return trip ticket to prove your intention of returning back home. 
      •  Tax return statements are necessary documents .
      • A copy of your certificate of Employment must be submitted to prove you are capable of taking care of your expenses. 
      • You are to also provide a schedule and travel plans for the trip. 
      • When you arrive at Japanese international airport, a stamp would be made on your passport which allows you to obtain Japan Rail pass for train rides while in Japan.

      • The skilled labour visa applies to workers in filed of cooking, architecture or civil engineering, instructing sports, training animals. It's mandatory to have at least three years of professional experience in that field. 
      • The Business manager visa is for those who wish to start a business or invest in Japan. Or managing businesses on behalf of investors.
      • While highly skilled professional visa applies to applicants who are likely to contribute to the Japanese economy. 
      • The company of employment serves as the sponsor for the applicant. Hence, the company is required to present a letter stating the applicant's intending position and expected salary to be paid.
      • The company is also expected to ensure that the applicant is issued a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) as this is a vital part of the application process. 
      • The COE is issued by the immigration bureau under the jurisdiction of the Japan Ministry of justice. A photocopy of the certificate is to be carried along with the original. 
      • Work visas are normally issued to be valid for the period of 1-3 years.   
      • Applicants are required to take their letter of employment and work contract to the embassy during the visa application processing.
      • You are to submit a CV containing proof of previous work experience along with a contract letter.
      • Applicants are to also get a residence and work permit immediately they gain entry into Japan. 
      • A Specified Skills visa has been newly introduced to foreigners coming to Japan for work. It has two sub-types:
      •        The Specified Skills Visa No.1 allows foreigners to work in Japan for a period of 5 years and is immediately accessible for application
      •        The Specified Skills Visa No.2 allows foreigners to work in Japan indefinitely. It is to be noted however that this visa is yet to be released for use.
      • Only eligible candidates can renew their work visas.
