Basic Travel Requirements for Eritreans visiting Portugal

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Portuguese Visa.

  • An Eritrean international passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
  • A duly completed and signed visa application form should be submitted.
  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
  • Two passport-sized photographs (3mm x 45mm) taken on a plain white background.
  • Travel document.
  • Copy of return flight ticket(not always required, though).
  • Your flight dates and times.
  • Proof of sufficient funds to last your stay duration in Portugal.
  • Proof of accommodation.
  • Documentation confirming the purpose of travel.

Portugal Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Portuguese tourist visa is a visa issued to tourists all around the world including Eritrean nationals who are visiting Portugal for a leisure, vacation, visiting family and friends and other tourist-related activities.
  • Portugal is part of the Schengen Area which is made up of 26 European countries, so a Schengen visa is required which will also enable you to tour around other Schengen countries. 
  • This visa is short-stay in nature with a maximum stay of 90 days with the option of multiple entries spreading over a period of 180 days in one calendar year.
  • Tourists are required to register with Portuguese Immigration Service within three days of entering Portugal. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in an administrative offense punishable with a fine from €60 to €160.
  • The following documents are also required:
  • Your original passport and copies of your previous visas.
  • Proof of travel insurance to cover you for the Schengen area.
  • Cover letter stating the purpose of your visit and itinerary that includes your activities, flight dates and times, entry and exit out of Portugal.
  • Bank statements for the last three months.
  • Foreign travelers will not be liable to take up either paid or unpaid employment in the country.
  • They are also not allowed to benefit from public services such as public hospitals while in Portugal, that's why they are to travel with their insurance worths a minimum of 30,000 Euros.

Portugal Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Portuguese business visa is a visa issued to foreign business travelers who are craving to exercise business activities in Portugal.
  • The visa is a short stay visit into the country for a period of 3 months stay as a visitor into the country. However, you can travel multiple times within the 90 days duration available on your visa for a period up to 180 days.
  • Your visa is processed in 15 days if all visa requirements are met by you on the visa form and all your documents are adequately submitted as required. It could exceed 15 days up to 30 or 60 days, however, if some information has to be verified or some cases arise.
  • To avoid delay in your visa process, you are to apply three months prior to your travel to Portugal.
  • Payment for the visa must be made in your local currency.
  • While you are in the country with this visa, you can meet up with business partners for meetings and to negotiate and sign contracts.
  • You can also attend trade fairs, conferences, and business summits while you are in the country.
  • An invitation letter from the company you will be visiting in Portugal should be provided. The address of the company and the dates of your visit should be stated in the letter.
  • If the company you are meeting with in Portugal will be responsible for your expenses while in the country, it should be stated in the letter.
  • A letter is required from your employer in Eritrea stating awareness and allowance of your business travel for the duration of your time in the country.
  • If the applicant of this visa has been in business with this company before, proof of such events must be provided.
  • A Certificate of business registration of your business partner in Portugal is required.
  • You cannot be gainfully employed while you are in the country with this visa, neither can you attend academic related activities.

  • Holders of this visa are expected to exit the country at the expiry of their visa.

Portugal Medical Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Medical visa granted to Eritreans who are visiting Portugal for medical treatment. That is, medical condition considered very critical in nature.
  • Portugal has a state-funded universal healthcare system offered to all.
  • Medical diagnosis is required from your local doctor and It should be accompanied by a document stating why the ailment is best treated in Portugal.
  • This visa falls under a Portuguese temporary visa stay with a duration of 120 days in the country.
  • You are advised to apply for your medical visa three months prior to your travel to Portugal to seek treatments.
  • Documents you will be presenting, if not written in Portuguese or English language, have to be translated to either of the language especially in Portugues. Your documents must be submitted with the original copies, and you must ensure that your information is accurately translated and also present proof of the translation.
  • If you are planning to stay in Portugal for more than 120 days, you can ask for a certificate from your local council office. The certificate allows you to access Portugal’s public healthcare.
  • A medical attestation from the hospital or doctor in Portugal, confirming the date of appointment as well as your medical situation is required.
  • You are also required to provide proof of international health insurance when applying for your visa. The insurance must have a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000. It must have an emergency medical evacuation and repatriation benefit.
  • If you are employed, a letter from your employer is required. Your employer should state in the letter that he is aware of your leave, your position and how long you have been employed in the company should be clearly stated.

Portugal Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Portuguese transit visa is also known as an Airport transit visa or A-visa is issued to people who are going to be transiting through Portugal.
  • The airport transit visa enables you to transit through Portuguese international airports, that is, from one flight to another.
  • You can not enter any Schengen countries including Portugal per se while traveling on this visa, you can just only transit through its airports.
  • This transit visa is valid for 24 hours only, in which you will have to reapply for another transit visa should your visa expired.
  • Just like other visas, this visa costs 60 Euro for adults, 35 Euro for children within 11 years to 6 and visa-free for under the age of 5 years.
  • Your visa is processed within 15 days, should you fulfill all the transit visa requirements.
  • All your documents must be translated to Portuguese or English and must be accompanied by the original copies.
  • Your visa fee is non-refundable, should you are denied a visa issuance.
