Basic Travel Requirements for Eritreans visiting Portugal
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Portuguese Visa.
- An Eritrean international passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
- A duly completed and signed visa application form should be submitted.
- If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
- Two passport-sized photographs (3mm x 45mm) taken on a plain white background.
- Travel document.
- Copy of return flight ticket(not always required, though).

Portugal Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Portuguese tourist visa is a visa issued to tourists all around the world including Eritrean nationals who are visiting Portugal for a leisure, vacation, visiting family and friends and other tourist-related activities.
- Portugal is part of the Schengen Area which is made up of 26 European countries, so a Schengen visa is required which will also enable you to tour around other Schengen countries.
- This visa is short-stay in nature with a maximum stay of 90 days with the option of multiple entries spreading over a period of 180 days in one calendar year.
- Tourists are required to register with Portuguese Immigration Service within three days of entering Portugal. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in an administrative offense punishable with a fine from €60 to €160.
- The following documents are also required:
- Your original passport and copies of your previous visas.
- Proof of travel insurance to cover you for the Schengen area.

- A letter is required from your employer in Eritrea stating awareness and allowance of your business travel for the duration of your time in the country.

- A Certificate of business registration of your business partner in Portugal is required.
- You cannot be gainfully employed while you are in the country with this visa, neither can you attend academic related activities.

- Holders of this visa are expected to exit the country at the expiry of their visa.

Portugal Medical Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Medical visa granted to Eritreans who are visiting Portugal for medical treatment. That is, medical condition considered very critical in nature.
- Portugal has a state-funded universal healthcare system offered to all.
- Medical diagnosis is required from your local doctor and It should be accompanied by a document stating why the ailment is best treated in Portugal.
- This visa falls under a Portuguese temporary visa stay with a duration of 120 days in the country.
- You are advised to apply for your medical visa three months prior to your travel to Portugal to seek treatments.
- Documents you will be presenting, if not written in Portuguese or English language, have to be translated to either of the language especially in Portugues. Your documents must be submitted with the original copies, and you must ensure that your information is accurately translated and also present proof of the translation.
- If you are planning to stay in Portugal for more than 120 days, you can ask for a certificate from your local council office. The certificate allows you to access Portugal’s public healthcare.

- If you are employed, a letter from your employer is required. Your employer should state in the letter that he is aware of your leave, your position and how long you have been employed in the company should be clearly stated.
