General Requirements for Chad Visa
Chad Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Chad tourist visa is available to Ethiopians with the intention of traveling to the country for tourism.
- This visa is valid for 90 days, however, it is extendable to 180 days with extra fees.
- Travelers should not that the currency restriction for entry into and exit out of Chad is 5 million CFA. However, foreigners with the amount of more than 5 million CFA must have it declared at the point of entry.
- The Central African CFA franc is the official currency of Chad. ATMs are unreliable so it is advised that you carry enough cash.
- Applicants are required to provide proof of yellow fever vaccination.
- If you are touring Chad for the first time, you are required to obtain a registration stamp through the National Police within 72 hours of arrival.
- Travelers in Chad are advised to avoid the following areas:
- The Lake Chad area, which shares a water border with Borno, Nigeria, a Boko Haram stronghold.
- The regions of Ennedi-Est, Ennedi-Ouest, Borkou, and Tibesti.
- The Presidential Palace Compound on Avenue Felix Eboue in N’Djamena (do not stop your vehicle in front of this compound and avoid driving by it at night).
- While in Chad, you are required to obey the local laws. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned.
- Travelers are advised to carry their means of identification (passport) at all times. You may be taken in for questioning by the police if you are unable to produce identification on demand.
- Convictions for possessing, using, and/or trafficking of illegal drugs may result in long prison sentences and heavy fines.
- Before you can photograph anything, you are required to obtain a permit issued by the Ministry of Public Security and Immigration.
- It is illegal to take pictures of military sites, official buildings, airports, and public monuments even with a permit. Such sites are not always clearly marked.
