Romania Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Citizens of the Gambia intending to travel to Romania for tourism purposes are eligible for the Romanian tourist visa. 
  • This visa is valid for 90 days and it is not extendable.
  • The purpose of the trip to Romania undertaken by travelers on the basis of a short-stay visa cannot be altered during their stay on the territory of Romania.
  • Applicants are required to provide proof of travel insurance. This should be valid or accepted in Romania and it must cover one day longer beyond your intended period of stay.
  • If you have a sponsor/host, you must submit an authenticated invitation stating how your sponsor/host will cover the repatriation expenses should you not leave Romania upon expiry of your visa, as well as how your sponsor/host will shoulder your means of support and accommodation.
  • You are required to provide your driving documents (like your driver's license)  Only if you plan to drive around Romania.
  • No immunizations or unusual health precautions are necessary or required, but during the summer months, mosquitoes are present in the Danube Delta and some low-lying regions. For your comfort take some mosquito repellent with you, if visiting Romania during the warm season.
  • The currency used in Romania is Romanian Lei, though most of the prices of goods in Romania are displayed in Euros.
  • Travelers can only enter Romania with just 10,000 euros in cash. Any amount higher would have to be declared before entry.
  • Proof that the applicant is capable of financial support must be provided, The applicant is required to have at least EUR 30/day for the entire period of their stay on the territory of Romania.
  • Travelers bringing pets into Romania should adhere to the following rules:
    • Proof of rabid vaccination is required.
    • The health certificate must prove that your pet has had all its shots and is healthy enough to travel.
    • Microchips implantation records on your pet must be provided. If your pet doesn't already have a microchip you can easily get one.

Romania Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Romanian business visa is available for Gambians looking to travel to Romania for business purposes.
  • This visa can also be used for economic and commercial purposes.
  • A letter from your employer confirming your business leave is required. The letter should be written with the company’s letterhead and should have information which includes your position in the company and the duration of your business leave.
  • You may train local employees or check the use and operation of goods acquired or sold under commercial and industrial co-operation contracts.
  • A flight reservation to the Romanian territory showing your entry and exit dates should be provided. It should also contain your PNR and full details as they appear on your international passport bio-data page.
  • An invitation from the host company for participation in meetings, conferences, fairs, or congresses related to trade or industry stating that the company will cover the expenses must be provided.
  • This letter must also receive approval from the General Inspectorate for Immigration-Ministry of Internal Affairs (IGI-MAI), without this it is impossible for the applicant to do business with the host company.
  • The letter should also have the company’s address and state the duration, as well as the purpose of your visit.
  • Applicants are required to possess a copy of the certificate of business registration and the bylaws of your partner company.
  • Applicants are required to provide proof of previous business dealings between both companies, if any.

Romania Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Romanian student visa is for Gambians who intend to travel to Romania either for pre-graduate, graduate, or postgraduate studies or in view of obtaining academic degrees within the state or accredited private institutions.
  • Applicants are required to provide proof of acceptance for studies from the Romanian Ministry of Education, attesting that the visa applicant will attend a full-time course of study at a state or private higher education institution.
  • Applicants are also required to provide proof of tuition fees for at least one academic year.
  • Students should provide proof of financial support, it is required for students to have at least  €500 per month to cover their monthly finances. 
  • Students who have been previously convicted will not be issued this visa.
  • Proof of knowledge of the language of the study program to be followed must be provided, with the exception of the preparatory year of Romanian language for foreign citizens.
  • Gambians who are trainees or who want to partake in the pupil exchange scheme or in an individual project may also apply for this visa.
  • Gambians who want to carry out activities of scientific research on the grounds of the endorsement of the Ministry of Research and Innovation and the General Inspectorate for Immigration.
  • The visa allows Gambians to enter the territory of Romania to apply at the Ministry of Internal Affairs – General Inspectorate for Immigration, for the extension of the right of temporary stay and for a residence permit.
