Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Portuguese Visa.

  • A valid passport/travel ID

Portugal Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This is the type of visa issued to persons who intend to visit Portugal for tourism purposes.
  • The Portuguese tourist visa is a short-stay visa valid for a period of 3 months.
  • The Portugal tourist visa is a sticker visa, and can only be applied for in one's home country or one's country of permanent residence.
  • Also known as a Portugal Schengen short-stay visa, this visa is valid for trips around the 26 Schengen countries.

  • This is type of visa issued to Ghanaians traveling to Portugal for business purposes.
  • You will need to provide an invitation letter from the Portuguese company you will be visiting.
  • This letter will also contain their detailed address, accompanied with the dates of your visit.
  • If are employed, you will have to present a certificate from your employer stating/allowing your business travel.
  • Your bank statement from the latest 6 months is needed.
  • Self-employed people will proof of business registration.
  • Some visa requirements are subject to change from time to time, so be sure to check with your local embassy before applying.
  • You cannot be gainfully employed while you are in the country with this visa.

  • Non-Europeans going to Portugal to study will need a student visa.
  • Portuguese student visa may take up to 2-3 months to be issued.
  • Unlike the visit visa, Portugal student visa offers a longer duration.
  • A holder of the visa can stay in Portugal for as long as their study curriculum permits.
  • Portuguese universities offer numerous quality study programmes while charging affordable tuition fees.
  • Similar to other countries, Portugal distinguishes between primarily research-driven universities and more practice-oriented polytechnics.
  • Most courses are taught in Portuguese, but there is a growing number of courses taught in English - particularly at the Master’s level.
  • The largest university in Portugal is the University of Lisbon (ULisboa), located in the country’s capital.
  • All international students should get a residence permit within three months of arriving in Portugal, which will certainly then be valid for one year.
  • After a year, house permits could be restored for approximately 5 years at the SEF.

  • If you’re planning on taking a job in Portugal you might need to get a work visa first.
