Basic Travel Requirements for Ivorians visiting Germany
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a German Visa.
- Original Ivorian international passport which carries a validity of a minimum of 3 months after the intended date of the visa expiration. Photocopy in A4 format of the first page and any page used should be provided. The passport must have two blank pages for necessary stamps.
- Photocopy of previous passports, if the current passport dates from less than one year. Photocopy of previous Schengen visas should also be provided.
- Correctly filled in visa application form which carries the correct information of the visa applicant. The application form must be appropriately signed.
- One coloured passport photograph. The photograph must be taken with a white background.
- Proof of means of subsistence should be provided. This may be in the form of a statement from a bank account in Ivory Coast from the previous three months prior to the visa application.
- Travel insurance which is valid for all the countries within the Schengen area, which has sufficient coverage for medical and repatriation costs in case of accident or sickness. The insurance must have a minimum coverage of €30,000.
- Receipt of payment which shows that payment has been made for the visa.
- Certificate of accommodation, confirmed hotel reservation, proof of rental which shows that you indeed have a place to stay during your visit to Germany.
- Reservation of return air ticket.

Germany Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- This visa is issued to foreigners who have the intention of engaging in business activities, attending trade fairs, and conferences for a period of time which does not exceed 90 days.
- If you are travelling to Germany for a business visit, the original letter of invitation from the German business partner or company which must include the number of the organization should be provided.
- The invitation must be duly signed by an authorized signatory of the company. The letter must indicate the date of arrival and the duration of the business trip. The applicant’s reason for visit must also be stated.
- Previous contracts, invoices, and correspondences which show that there have been commercial dealings or trade relationships between the companies involved should be provided.
- A copy of the mission statement confirming the reason and duration of your business trip should be provided. If it is your first travel in the Schengen area, the original of this document is required.
- Foreigners who have the intention of attending a trade fair or conference in Germany should attach their invitation to the trade fair or conference with other required documents.
- A work certificate or recent employment contract issued by the applicant’s employer in Ivory Coast should be provided.
- Those in Liberal Professions are required to provide their business card and an update of CASNOS.
- Applicants who are not of Ivorian origin are required to present a copy of their Ivorian residence permit.
- If the applicant of this visa is married, a copy of the applicant’s family card is required.
- Presenting all the necessary document does not necessarily mean instant issuance of the visa required.
- The German Embassy reserves the right to request additional documents, if necessary. The Embassy may also summon the visa applicant for an interview.
- All your documents must be translated to either English or French and must be submitted with the original copy of the documents.
Germany Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Transit Visa is required for Ivorian nationals who have the intention of going through the international transit area of airports without entering the national territory Germany.
- This visa type is required when you are making a stop-over in the country or you are transferring between two stages of an international flight.
- With this visa, you are not allowed to leave the transit area of the airport.
- Applicants of this visa are strongly advised to lodge their visa application at least three months before their planned date of departure.
- It is worth noting that visas are not issued on the same day of application. It may take up to 15 days or more.
- The passport of visa applicants should have at least three blank pages.
- Two passport-sized photographs which bear a complete likeness to the visa applicant should be provided. The passport must not be older than 6 months.
- Original and a copy of air ticket to the final destination should be presented. The copy is retained by the German Embassy.
- A valid entry visa for the destination country is required.
- Non-Ivorian citizens must be in possession of a valid residence permit before they will be issued this visa type.
- Applicants who are under the age of 18 years should present their birth certificates and evidence of authorization of both their parents or legal guardian.
Germany Official Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The eligible applicants of the Official Visa are those travelling to Germany for a short period of time for only official reasons.
- Applicants of this visa must provide a verbal note or mission order which bears their name, official function, recruitment date, purpose, and duration of their visit.
- The verbal note provided must guarantee that all the expenses of the visa applicant will be duly covered.
- This visa does not entitle you to enrol in an institution of learning to take up a part-time or full-time course of study.
- Taking up permanent residence in Germany with this visa type will be a violation of the German laws.
- Foreigners should ensure they have a copy of their passport with them at all times as the authorities may request a means of identification.
- You may be requested to provide additional documents by the German Embassy and also, a visa interview may be requested.
- English or French translations of your documents should be attached to documents which were originally issued in Arabic.
- If the applicant is not a citizen of Ivory Coast, a copy of the applicant’s Ivorian residence card should be provided. The residence card should have a validity of a minimum of 3 months after the expiry of the Official Visa.
- Proof of the applicant’s socio-occupational situation should be provided.
